Chapter 336
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
For the time being, the last thing he wanted to hear was Leahâs voice, so he hung up the call.
When the call ended, Leah was fuming. She was extremely close to hurling her phone away.
She realized that controlling Elio was no easy feat.
Furthermore, she had thought that once she had his parents under her thumb, Elio would be putty in her hands. But who wouldâve thought, for Clara, heâd go so far as to disregard his parentsâ safety?
However, things had already gone very far, and she needed to ensure Clara was out of the picture for Emmett.
After a brief hesitation, Leah picked up her phone and made a call, which was quickly answered.
âWhy the hell are you calling me?â
âGuess what? I need a drug that can control people.â
The person on the other end of the line was taken aback before bursting into laughter âDo you take me for some drug guru from a novel? Do you have any idea of the mess youâve made for the Milburn family? You have the nerve to call me after you leaked the Atwood familyâs affairs, do you?â
âYes, that was me! But I did it for the good of our entire family. If you give me the drug, Iâll remember the favor.â
âI donât have this drug, nor can I make it! Mrs. Atwood chewed me out! What else do you want? Iâm clueless!â
Newell Milburn flatly refused her, but Leah just laughed and said, âOur familyâs secret recipe has been passed on to you; how can you not know? Do you think Iâll back down after saying this much?â
It seemed Leah was hell-bent on getting the recipe.
Newell started to worry, if he didnât agree, there would be consequences.
âIf you agree now, Iâll remember the favor. Iâll consider you in the future for any good opportunities. But if you donât cooperate, donât blame me!â
âWhat are you going to do to me?â
âI donât want to do anything to you; I just want that drug!â
Time seemed to stand still.
The voice on the other end of the line disappeared. Just as Leah thought he had hung up, Newell suddenly spoke.
âSo, who is this drug for? Let me think about itâ¦â
âI canât tell you now, but youâll know soon.â
Newell hesitated and quickly said, âNo way! If you use this drug to do evil, Iâll be left holding the bag. I canât take on this responsibility!â
Leah chuckled, âYou donât need to worry about anything else; just give me the drug.â
âThe Milburn family is already down in the dumps; I just want to live a peaceful life! If you use the drug to harm someone, the cops will come for me. I donât want any trouble!â
âDonât worry, no one will know you gave me the drug. Only our family knows about the secret recipe. I wonât sell you out; who would say anything?â
âHow can I be sure you wonât sell me out? Your plan is a mystery to me. You wonât even tell me!â
âSo, name your price, and Iâll buy your drug. How about that?â
Leah was running out of patience and went straight to discussing the price.
However, when he heard he could profit, Newell started to show interest, âHow much are you willing to pay?â
âI can give you 10% of my companyâs shares; what do you say?â
âAre you serious?â
âOf course! Do you think I called you just for fun?â
However, the more sincere Leah seemed, the more worried Newell became. Unless she was planning something nefarious, why would she be willing to pay such a high price?
But the 10% in shares could secure him a worry-free life after retirement. That was a huge temptation for Newell!
