Chapter 340
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
Aiden quickly whipped out a handkerchief and wiped away his little brotherâs tears. âStop crying, Iâm working on a plan.â
âBut when will you come up with a solution? Why donât we just go and find mom?â
Aiden sighed, wishing it was that simple.
âBut weâre so far from Dadâs company, Weâre in a private villa area; we canât find a taxi around here.
Weâd have to walk all the way to the city center, and that would take a long time. Grandma would definitely notice if I went missing.â
âI donât care, and I just want to see Mom!â Seeing that Aiden didnât have any answers, his emotions started to crumble.
âRight now, Grandma doesnât know weâre planning to run away. We should try to trick her, then sneak out to find Mom. We canât be rash; we need a solid plan.â
âAlright.â
âWe canât let Grandma get suspicious. Letâs go back to our room and do our homework. If she sees us studying, she wonât bother us. Then, weâll pretend to go to sleep early tonight. We can leave once she thinks weâre asleep.â
Alex nodded and said, âAlright, Iâll do as you say.â
âAt least this way, we wonât arouse any suspicion for a few hours. If we spend those hours walking, we should be able to reach the city center and find a taxi.â
âOkay, as long as I can see Mom, Iâll do as you say.â
Just as Alex finished speaking, Sophia came out from the living room. Seeing the two kids, she smiled and squatted down to pick up Alex, planting a kiss on his cheek. âAre you guys done with school?â
Aiden smiled politely. âHello, grandma.â
âOh, my good boys. Do you have a lot of homework today? Grandma wants to take you to meet someone. Is that okay?â
Aiden interrupted before Alex could say anything, fearing his brother might spill the beans. âWe have a lot of homework today. Tomorrow our teacher said thereâs a school activity. Can we go with you another day?â
Sophia paused, then smiled. âSure, you guys, go do your homework. Youâll meet them eventually.â
Alex looked confused. âWho are we going to meet? Mom?â
Sophia knew exactly who he meant by âMom, and her heart sank. âAlex, I need to tell you something.
Clara wonât be your mom anymore. She ran off with another man!â
âThatâs impossible! How could mom run away? Didnât she marry Dad? Did they get divorced?â
Aiden was taken aback. He tried to signal Alex to stop, but his brother was too engrossed in his own sorrow to pay attention.
âI donât want Mom and Dad to get divorced, and I donât wantâ¦â
âHoney, these are adult matters. You wouldnât understand.â
âYeah, bro, letâs not upset Grandma. Come on, letâs go do our homework. You didnât finish yours yesterday, remember? The teacher said you have to make it up today.â
Aiden quickly grabbed Alexâs hand and made to leave, but Alex resisted. He wanted to tell the truth, but Aiden covered it before he could even open his mouth and dragged him away.
Back in their room, Alex angrily shook off his brotherâs hand as soon as the door closed.
âWhy didnât you let me tell grandma?â
âYou follow my lead, and we both keep our mouths shut.â
Alex pouted. âI just⦠I wanted to tell herâ¦â
âAnd that might not do us any good. It could even harm Mom! Remember what she said? We canât tell anyone, not even Dad, let alone Grandma!â
