Chapter 345
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âIâm starting to feel a bit beat. We should call it a night. Itâs getting late, and isnât it about time you hit the road, right?â
Elio paused momentarily, his face stiffening before he nodded, âAlright, just chill out here. If you need anything, let Nestor know, and heâll get the word to me. Iâll do my best to meet your requests as long as you play ball.â
âI donât really have any demands right now, just hoping if you hear anything about Leah, you could clue me in. After all, this whole situation isnât just about Emmett, and it involves my two kids as well. I canât just sit on my hands and do nothing!â
âDonât worry, Iâve watched Alex grow up since he was a rugrat. I wonât let him walk into any danger. If push comes to shove, Iâll take him away. I wonât let Leah lay a finger on him.â
âThe same goes for Aiden.â Clara quickly added, âIf you can bring Alex to me, could you spring Aiden too?â
Elio nodded, âSure thing, youâve got my word.â
Clara stood still, watching Elioâs lonely figure disappear into the night.
She let out a soft sigh. If it werenât for Leahâs high-handedness, Elia would still be the same old sunny, warm, straight-shooting yet kind-hearted Elio in her heart.
As night fell, Aiden ensured the house staff had all hit the sack before cautiously nudging the already sleeping Alex.
âDo you still want to go find mom?â
Alex rubbed his tired eyes, a bit bewildered as he nodded, âRight now?â
âYes, come on, letâs make tracks, or weâll miss our window! The next shift of guards will be taking over soon. Once they do, weâre totally screwed!â
Hearing this, Alex quickly sat up and grabbed his clothes to put on.
Aiden reluctantly helped him straighten out his clothes, âYouâve got it backward. Once weâre out there, you have to do exactly as I say. Donât do anything rash! We canât risk getting caught. If we do, everything weâve done will be for nothing. Not only will we not find Mom, but we wonât get another shot at sneaking out!â
Alex nodded vigorously, âOkay, Iâll do whatever you say.â
Aiden grabbed his hand, âAlex, weâve got to find Mom this time.â
âYeah!â
Soon, two small figures slipped out of the back door of the Melendez familyâs mansion.
Sure enough, as they started to make their escape, several guards came to the back door.
Usually, guards would be stationed at the back door after 10 p.m., so Aiden chose to make their move just after 9 p.m.
This way, he could ensure that their grandparents were already asleep, and they could avoid the house staff since most of them would be off duty by 9 p.m.
Aside from the few on duty at the gate, the others were gone.
Alex spoke softly from behind Aiden, âBro, this is so thrilling. I feel like Iâm a superhero or a detective or something.â
Aiden glanced at his younger brother helplessly, âAre you seriously cracking jokes right now? Getting out of there was just the first step. Weâve got a long road ahead, so you canât just stop when youâre tired!â
âDonât worry, didnât you pack candies? As long as I have candies, I can keep going.â
Aiden felt like rolling his eyes. How could such a huge difference exist between him and his brother, who shared the same parents?
He quickly pulled a candy out of his pocket and handed it to Alex, then took out his phone to check the route.
