Chapter 364
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
Nestorâs phone rang.
It was Elio.
Clara motioned for him to answer immediately.
Nestor quickly hit the answer button, and Elioâs anxious voice came through.
âWhat happened to Clara?!â
âShe fainted! I tried everything but couldnât wake her up, and the doctorâs phone was off!â Nestor spoke and then glanced at Clara.
Clara nodded, signaling for him to continue.
âItâs really bad; I think Ms. Calloway could stop breathing soon! Elio, hurry back and check on her!â
Upon hearing this, Elio on the other end of the phone immediately responded. âHold on, Iâll be right there!â
After hanging up, Nestor exhaled heavily and looked at Clara. âMs. Calloway, I canât thank you enough!
You saved Elio!â
Clara bowed her head, feeling somewhat ashamed. âYou donât have to thank me; I feel really guilty. Elio has done so much for me. This time, he was willing to fight with Leah for my children, so I couldnât just stand by.â
Nestor sighed, still recovering from the shock. âElio is stubborn. Once he sets his mind on something, he wonât easily change. He was like this as a kid. If he liked a toy, he wanted that toy. No matter how great the other toys his family gave him, he wouldnât even play with them.â
Clara lowered her head. She knew about Elioâs deep feelings for her.
But not everything could be solved with deep feelings, especially when it came to love. If you didnât like someone, you just didnât. There was nothing that could be done about it.
Before, Clara had considered settling down with Elio just to give her children a complete family.
But after much thought, she realized that was too selfish.
Elioâs affection for her might have just been temporary. If he met someone he truly loved in the future, being already married with a child would ruin his happiness.
So she stopped thinking that way. She knew she was partly to blame for the current situation.
She should have made it clear to Elio sooner or explicitly told him they wouldnât be together.
âAfter spending some time with you, Ms. Calloway, I think youâre a kind-hearted girl. Itâs no wonder Elio is drawn to you.â Nestor said. âUnfortunately, you already have children and a loved one. Iâve tried to persuade Elio to let go, but he just canât let go of you.â
Clara smiled faintly, not wanting to continue the conversation. What was done was done, and talking more wouldnât change anything.
She didnât know where Elio was right now. But soon, she heard the screech of tires outside.
Elio burst through the door.
After seeing Clara standing at the door, he froze and frowned. âDidnât you faint?â
Nestor quickly chimed in. âElio, youâre finally back!â
âWhatâs going on?â
âElio, donât do anything rash.â Nestor quickly stepped forward to stop him.
Clara also stepped forward, her face serious. âElio, do you want me to feel guilty for the rest of my life?â
Elio suddenly understood. He clenched his fists, not knowing how to explain his actions. âI really couldnât think of any other way. I promised you that I would save your children. If I canât save them, Iâll take Leah away. I dragged her into this, and I should be responsible for taking her away.â
