Chapter 369
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
How great would it be if Emmett was just an average man? Even if he was broke and not so good-
looking, that would have been all okay!
But no, he had to be Mr. Exceptional, the unreachable height she has been chasing but couldnât achieve.
âIâm going to ask you one more time. Where are you? Clara, stop playing games. Iâm coming to get you.â Emmettâs voice came over the phone, softer then, almost pleading.
That was the first time Clara had ever heard him speak like that!
âI⦠Iâm not telling you where I am!â
A few seconds of silence followed.
Then Emmett roared, âTell me now! Is Elio with you? I swear, Iâll kill him!â
Clara gritted her teeth, each word stinging, âI wonât let you hurt Elio! Emmett, itâs over between us. Letâs part on good terms. I donât want to see you again, nor will I look for you! Your mother doesnât like me;
let her find someone she does.â
Emmett paused, hastily asking, âMy mother? Did she pressure you? Tell me. I can cut her off. Iâd do anything for you!â
âShe didnât pressure me.â
âThen why? Why?â Emmettâs voice was nearly breaking, âI refuse to believe you have no feelings for me. You clearly⦠you clearly felt something when you were in my arms!â
âAnd what kind of feelings are those? Nothing but forced acceptance! It could be anyone, not just you.
And Iâd probably still pretend to enjoy itâ¦â
âYou⦠Clara, youâre bold. I see you clearly now! You want to be with Elio, huh? Iâm telling you. I wonât let that happen!â
With that, Emmett hung up, as if afraid to hear her voice again.
Clara stared at her phone, dumbfounded.
Leahâs hearty laughter came through the other phone, âGood job! Itâs clear Emmettâs really fallen for you. What a pity youâre from two different worlds. It wasnât meant to be. Now look, youâre both heartbroken!â
âEnough! I did what you asked. Now will you release my children?â
âRelax, relax. The kids are with me now. Iâm their mother; why would I let them get hurt? Right?â Leah laughed, then hung up.
Clara collapsed backward, passing out. Her hand still clutched the corner of her dress.
âEmmett⦠Emmett⦠Iâm sorry.â
Elio panicked and shouted, âQuick! Get a doctor. Sheâs pregnant. We canât have any accidents!â
In a warehouse on the outskirts.
Two small figures huddled in a corner, and with a guard every two meters outside, there was no chance for them to escape.
âAiden, what should we do?â
Aiden frowned, hugging Alex, âDonât be scared. Mom and Dad will come for us.â
âThey⦠they wonât hurt us, will they?â Alex was on the verge of breaking down, âIâm so hungry. I want something to eat.â
âWait here!â
Aiden gently patted his shoulder, then stood up and called out, âExcuse me, is anyone there? My little brotherâs hungry. Could you give us something to eat?â
