Chapter 370
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
It didnât seem like anyone outside heard, nor was there any response.
Wiping away his tears with the back of his hand, Alex said, âIâm not leaving home again, and Iâm not going to look for Dad. But I really miss Mom.â
Aiden felt helpless. Alexâs speech was getting all muddled. He was so upset; there was no way he could discuss an escape plan.
Then suddenly, the warehouse door swung open, and a man walked in, carrying a bag of bread. He walked over and tossed the bag of bread on the ground.
âEat up! Youâre hungry, arenât you? I canât have you starving to death now!â
Aiden watched him, instinctively protecting Alex. âGot any water? Weâre kind of thirsty.â
âWhatâs with all the demands? Are you here on vacation or something?â The man scoffed. âRich kids, always such a pain in the ass!â
With that, he turned and left.
Aiden quickly bent down, shoving the bread into Alexâs hands. âEat up.â
Alex nodded, but when he opened the bread, he didnât eat. âArenât you eating? Arenât you hungry?â
âIâm not hungry. You eat.â
Before long, the man returned with two bottles of water. âDrink up!â
As he was leaving, Aiden blurted out, âCan I ask what youâre planning to do with us? If you want money, I need to call my dad. Otherwise, he wonât know weâve been kidnapped!â
âKidnapped?â The man sneered at him. âThis isnât kidnapping. Weâre just restricting your freedom!â
Aiden really wanted to argue what that meant.
No food, no water. Was that what they called restricting freedom?
But he knew if he argued, the man might get violent.
So he swallowed his words, putting on an innocent smile. âSo when do you plan on letting us go? We donât really like our freedom restricted.â
âWhen we let you go isnât up to me. Just wait and see! And donât even think about trying to escape, or youâll be punished!â
With that, he slammed the warehouse door shut.
Aiden picked up the water bottle from the ground, retreated to the corner, opened it, and took a sip.
It was the best water heâd ever tasted.
Alex took a couple of big bites of the bread, then handed the rest to Aiden. âAiden, you should eat some too. Otherwise, you might not have the strength to run if we get a chance.â
Looking at the bread in his hand, Aidenâs eyes welled up. Alex was still worrying about him.
âIâm not hungry. Really, Iâm not. I always used to get so engrossed in my studies that Iâd forget to eat.
Iâm used to it! But youâre always eating at home. Youâ must be really hungry. Eat this.â
Aiden put the bread back, but Alex didnât eat it. Instead, he hid it.
âWe canât know when heâll feed us again. Iâm saying this. It might save our lives.â
Aiden smiled. âYou finally did something that reminds me of Dad. I was starting to wonder if we both were Mom and Dadâs kids. How could our intelligence gap be so huge?â
Alex pouted. âWhy do I feel like youâre mocking me?â
