Chapter 381
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
It was now deep into the night.
In the CEOâs office, Emmett was still engrossed in his paperwork, throwing himself into his work without giving himself a chance to take a breather.
Because as soon as he stopped, he would think of Clara and the words she had said to him.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Emmett frowned and muttered, âCome in.â
The door opened. He thought it would be Ricardo; however, a fragrance of food wafted in.
Emmett looked up to see Sophia holding a thermal flask in her hand, her face beaming with a caring smile.
âHavenât you knocked off yet? Iâve been waiting for you at home for so long that the soup I cooked has gotten cold, so I brought it over.â
âBusy.â Emmett glanced at his mother, pursed his lips, and said no more, continuing to focus on the documents in his hands.
Sophia walked over, placing the soup in front of him. âHave some. I know youâre not in a good mood, but you canât neglect your health. You are the backbone of the Melendez family.â
Emmett waved his hand. âIâm not hungry. Iâve already eaten.â
âNonsense! Iâve asked Ricardo, and he told me that youâve locked yourself in this office since you came back and havenât let anyone enter.â
Seeing that her son didnât reply, Sophia continued, âIs it because of Clara? I knew it! Did she say something to you?â
When her name was mentioned again, Emmett suddenly lost his patience, and he tightly clenched his fists. âCan you stop bothering me? I need to work! Leave the soup here; Iâll have it later. You can go back now.â
âEmmett!â Sophia furrowed her eyebrows as she walked over impatiently. âI am your mother; who is Clara? Sheâs nothing but a woman who climbed her way up with her looks! Sheâs not even that good-
looking, and youâre raging at me because of her? You treated her so well, and she betrayed you.â
âThatâs enough; stop it! I donât want to hear it!â
âNo, I must say this! You canât avoid this anymore! Whatâs the big deal? Consider it like being bitten by a dog. Youâve met a disgusting woman, but you canât dwell on this your whole life, right? You still need to move on. There are many good women out there waiting for you.â
Emmett took a deep breath, trying to keep calm. âMom, I donât want to discuss this anymore; Iâm really busy.â
âBusy with what? Youâre just using work as an excuse! I can see it; you canât let go of Clara. But youâve investigated it and found that the news is true. Otherwise, you wouldnât be this down.â
Emmett suddenly stood up from his seat. âI said I donât want to hear her name right now! Can you leave?â
Sophia had never seen her son like this and was taken aback. She nodded and left, not knowing what else to say.
The door closed, and the office was quiet again.
However, Emmett knew that ever since Claraâs call, his heart could no longer be calm.
The next morning, Clara woke up early.
Now, Elio no longer restricted her freedom, but she found herself not knowing where to go or what to do.
Clara walked out of the bedroom and saw Nestor busy in the yard.
Upon seeing Clara, Nestor immediately stopped his work and smiled at her. âYouâre up early. Why not sleep a little longer? Donât you youngsters like to sleep in?â
