Chapter 420
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âDidnât I tell you that appearances can be deceiving? She confessed to it herself on the news, and even if she hadnât, the media already caught her red-handed. Those photos donât leave room for her to deny it!â Sophia scoffed. âBut you, youâre the gem Iâve been looking for. Iâve already spoken to my son, and as long as Emmett agrees, weâll organize a grand wedding for you two. Weâll make sure everyone knows my grandchildren arenât motherless!â
Leah nodded, her heart filled with joy, but she kept her excitement under wraps.
âSophia, I think we should let things take their natural course. I donât want to force Emmett to accept me; it might backfire!â
âMy sonâ¦heâs quite the eccentric one. I canât figure him out, but donât worry. Iâll make sure to create more opportunities for you two to spend time together.â Sophia patted Leahâs hand. âGuaranteed to get him to welcome you with open arms.â
At these words, a blush crept up Leahâs cheeks.
âThis makes it sound like Iâm desperate to get hitched. If Emmett hears this, wonât he mock me?â
âWhatâs there to fear? My son is such a catch. Even if you come off a bit eager, or make the first move, itâs worth it!â
Leah nodded shyly, âOkay, Iâll listen to you.â
After a night of passion, Emmett drifted off to sleep.
But Clara dared not close her eyes. She waited until his breathing evened out before slowly climbing out of bed, her hands meekly clutching at her barely-there nightgown.
She didnât know how much longer she could endure this, feeling as though her dignity had been completely eroded.
Carefully, Clara eased herself out of the bed, wincing with soreness, careful not to disturb Emmett.
She had almost reached the door when she noticed Emmett had kicked off his blanket. Hesitating for a moment, she turned back to cover him with it before tiptoeing out of the room.
To avoid being discovered by Rose, Clara hid in a corner behind the servantâs quarters, waiting until Rose left before returning to her room to change.
Looking at her reflection, her hair was a mess, her body marked with love bites. Was there any trace of the old Clara left?
She couldnât be sure if Emmett had been genuinely drunk, orâ¦
But his savage invasion was something Clara didnât dare to recall!
Suddenly, she heard someone calling her name from outside. Instinctively, Clara grabbed a scarf to wrap around her neck before venturing out.
It was Leah.
She had come to find her, just as Clara had expected!
Leah scrutinized Clara, feeling that something was off but she couldnât put her finger on it.
âWhere have you been?â
âI was⦠doing laundry.â
âNo wonder you smell like Emmett. I thought youâd come from his room.â
âHow⦠how could that be! I can only dream of being near him.â
Leah snorted, âThatâs true! Emmett doesnât want anything to do with you now, does he? So, if I get you away from the Melendez family, that would be a relief, right?â
Clara quickly nodded, âYes, just let me leave!â
âGood, pack your things. Tomorrow evening, Iâll say I want to go shopping and need a maid to accompany me. Youâll disguise yourself as a maid and blend in with the other servants, and weâll leave together.â
