Chapter 56
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
Clara was at a loss for how to refuse.
âUm⦠my place is pretty cramped, and thereâs only one room! If Mi Melendez stayed here, itâd be a real drag for you!â
11 take your room, you can bunk with your sonâ
âNight, âEmmett said, getting up and heading straight for Claraâs room, shutting the door behind him.
Clara felt a sense of unease.
If she continued to interact closely with Emmett, it felt like it was only a matter of time before he discovered her past!
Aiden returned to his room, intending to read for a bit before going to sleep, only to be surprised by Sophia!
âAiden, are you asleep?â
Aiden quickly got up to open the door, âGranny, whatâs up?â
Sophia smiled and walked in, âAiden, tell granny, do you like the lady from today?â
The one dad brought home?â
âYep! Youâve been nagging for a mom, right? Your dad wants her to be your mom. How do you feel about that?â Sophia was curious to know her grandsonâs thoughts. After all, heâs just a kid! If he was resistant to Clara, things wouldnât be peaceful at home in the future.
âUm⦠I think⦠she seems pretty cool!â Aiden broke out in a grin, âGranny, is she gonna live with us from now on?*
âDo you want her to?â
Aiden thought about and nodded, âYeah! Then I can tell others I have a mom too! And they wonât make fun of me anymore!â
Sophia patted his head, smiling, âThen Iâll talk to your dad about it! Also⦠thereâs something else I need to tell you!â
Aiden felt uneasy seeing his granny looking so serious.
âWhat is it?â
âIt seems your new mom has a son too! Youâll meet him sooner or later. Can you promise to get along with your new brother?â
âHave you met him, granny?â
Sophia shook her head, âNot yet! But Iâm sure I will at some point. Weâre bound to cross paths.â
âThen Iâll do as you say, granny! Donât worry; I wonât bully my little brother.â
âGood boy! I knew my Aiden is the sweetest, most understanding child!â
Aiden beamed, âGranny, Iâll be a kid with a mom too from now on!â
âYes, you will! Youâll have a mom, and Alex will too.â Sophia sighed inwardly after saying this.
She felt guilty towards this grandson!
If she hadnât insisted on having a child for the Melendez family first back then, Aiden wouldnât have such a sad story. He had never even met his biological mother! Itâs just too cruel for a child.
That night, Clara barely slept a wink.
She couldnât fall asleep, so she covertly texted Alex and Aiden from under her blanket.
Alex didnât respond, he must be out having fun with Elio! Aiden texted back after a while.
[Mom, are you still awake?), [I miss you, I canât sleep! Youâre not asleep yet?)
[Yeah! Iâm reading]
Seeing the text, Clara pictured Aidenâs wellâbehaved and understanding demeanour.
She felt relieved.
She had been worried that without a motherâs love, the child might develop personality issues. But now it seemed her worries were unnecessary.
