Chapter 73
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
Iâm fineâ¦
âJudging by your face, youâre anything but fine. Whatâs wrong? I can helpâ
âYou canât help me!â Clara suddenly raised her voice, âThis is my problem, not yours.â
With that, she went straight back to her room.
Leaving Emmett standing there, looking utterly confusedâ¦
This was the first time Clara had ever spoken to him in this tone! Normally, she was either careful and polite, or submissive and obedient. Was sheâ¦. angry today?
Emmett pondered for a moment, then took out his cell phone, Ricardo, can you find out what happened on Claraâs way to drop off Aiden at his horseâriding lesson?â
âSure thing, Mr Melendez.â
After hanging up. Emmett glanced at Claraâs bedroom door, hesitated for a while, decided not to disturb her, and headed to the study upstairs.
It seemed she was having some kind of trouble.
What worried him more was⦠whether it was those debt collectors again.
Clara was lying on her bed, sobbing uncontrollably.
She covered her head with a blanket, muffling her sobs!
It was not until she heard her phone vibrating beneath her pillow that she stopped crying An unknown numberâ¦
âHelloâ¦â
âIs this Clara?â
â¦Clara recognized the voice but didnât answer.
She knew that voice too well!
How many times had it appeared in her dreams, and how many times had she dreamt of hearing him say, âIâm back.â
âItâs you, right? Clara, come out, I need to talk to you!â
âMr. Atwood, I have nothing to discuss with you. Why are you still looking for me?â
âAre you crying?â Taylor sounded worried. âWhat happened? Did Emmett do something to you?â
âThatâs none of Mr. Atwoodâs businessâ
âWhy are you so cold to me? Iâm not going to hurt you, I just want to ask about the past yearsâ¦â
âWe didnât have anything special going on those years! We were⦠just normal friends! You lost your memory, didnât you? Itâs better this way. We can just be strangers.
Taylor seemed to sigh, âClara, I think youâre lying.â
âYouâre funny When I tell you the truth, you say Iâm lying. So tell me, what is⦠our relationship?â
Clara was lying on her bed, looking up at the ceiling, tears streaming down her face.
âAt least⦠we were more than just normal friends, right? Were we⦠together before?â
âNo, I have never been with you.â
âYouâre lying, thereâs something off about your tone!â
âMr. Atwood, youâre a successful businessman, and Iâm just an ordinary person. I ask you to stop looking for me. Iâm married now, I donât want to be disturbed.â
âDid you marry Emmett because you love him? Donât you know heâs bad news?â
Clara slowly closed her eyes, âMr. Atwood, youâre being a little too nosy! Thereâs nothing to discuss between us, and I donât want to be interrogated like a suspect! Thatâs it, I hope you wonât bother me anymore.â
After that, Clara hung up the phone and blocked his number.
Her life was chaotic enough as it was, she didnât have the energy to delve into her past with Taylor!
On the other side, Taylor looked at his phone and frustratedly slammed it against the steering wheel.
He came to Melendezâs company again, hoping to see Clara.
No matter what, he wanted to explain the past to Clara in person. Perhaps⦠perhaps seeing her in person would trigger some memories of their past!
