Because she still smelled a scent of womenâs perfume on himâ¦
âIâm here. How have you been lately?â Hao Yansen stood by the bed, his gaze lowering to fix on her, he began in a deep and muted voice, as if speaking to the most familiar stranger.
Mo Jun also lifted her gaze, looking at him with eyes calm and devoid of emotion, âIâm doing well, and the days are finally becoming fewer.â
Hao Yansenâs dark pupils flickered for a moment before he slowly took a seat on the bedâs edge, coaxing a smile and saying, âI have some good news: weâve finally found a heart suitable for transplant. The doctors are all very excited, calling it a miracle. They will arrange the surgery as soon as possible, so you wonâtâ¦â
âNo need.â Mo Jun abruptly cut him off with resolve, her tone devoid of any fluctuation, âI wonât go through with the transplant. Letâs leave it at that, I have no interest in living even one more day. Besides, even after a transplant, it would just be a few more years of gasping for air.â
She knew her own body best.
A regular person might not live many years after a heart transplant, let alone her body, which had been eroded by poison.
Thus, a heart transplant was superfluous for her; she had no attachment to this world.
Mo Junâs words were very firm, without the slightest hint of petulance; she truly did not wish to live any longer.
Being alive was torture for her; death was the release.
Hao Yansen was momentarily left speechless by her response.
After a long while, he finally spoke in a heavy tone, âDonât you want to experience, just once, a life that is truly yours, devoid of any pain and resentment, purely your own?â
His sudden question was like a spark that streaked through the depths of Mo Junâs heart.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Mo Junâs eyes, previously dark and lifeless, seemed to develop a crackâ¦
âMo Jun, you havenât yet lived the life you wanted in this lifetime,â Hao Yansenâs voice continued to resound in a low pitch.
Mo Junâs eyelashes quivered slightly.
Yes, she had not lived a single truly happy day in her life.
She had never lived a day that was purely and solely her ownâ¦
âSo you canât lose this opportunity,â Hao Yansenâs strong, slender hands couldnât help but grasp her skeletal hands. Mo Jun suddenly recoiled as if stung by a needle, determination flashing in the depths of her dim eyes.
âLetâs get a divorce,â she suddenly said.
Hao Yansenâs hands stiffened in midair and his dark eyes seemed to freeze.
Mo Jun looked at him dispassionately, without any explanation, âI will live the life I want, but alone.â
Alone, my life will no longer need anyone, including youâ¦
Hao Yansen suddenly understood what she meant.
A complex light quickly passed through his eyes, and whether it was Mo Junâs misconception or not, he seemed somewhat relieved.
As expected, he had longed to be rid of herâ¦
âOkayâ¦â Hao Yansen did not ask anything further, his voice slightly hoarse as he spoke, âI respect your wishes.â
Then he stood up, his gaze dead as he stared at her for a few seconds before leaving with just two words.
âTake care,â he said.
Mo Jun did not look up. She didnât look up even after he left.
Her face was void of any emotion, yet Xiaomo, who had been quietly lying at the bedside, gazed at her with great sadnessâ¦
â¦
After Hao Yansen left, he never appeared again.
Because Mo Junâs body couldnât take it anymore, and the heart needed to be transplanted within a very short window of time, the surgery had to be arranged quickly.
