Chapter 1008

Spoiled by the President

”Your wife, Vickie, will need to take four fruits a month. Just one Money Bead will not be enough for her. You’ll need to help me find more Arcane Jades. Whenever you recover one, I’ll give you another Money Bead and the cultivation manual too. How does that sound?”

Gregory was silent as he contemplated.

There were indeed only five or six fruits on the Money Bead he saw just now.

Jeff was probably telling the truth.

Thus, he nodded.

“Okay. You have my word.”

A smile blossomed on Jeff’s face.

“This plant takes a lot of work to grow. You’ll have to keep it in a dark and gloomy area; a place where it can best absorb the essence of the moonlight. It can’t touch the soil or else it’ll wither right away. You can only put it in containers made of jade. The better the quality of the jade is, the more vigorous it will grow, and the size of the fruits will be bigger as well. Needless to say, the effect will then last longer.

“Once you’ve found such a location and container, you should fix the plant on top of the container and pour only a small amount of water at the bottom. It’ll be fine as long as the water doesn’t drown the roots. It’s just that you’ll need to change the water three times a day: in the morning, afternoon, and at night. Water cannot stain the fruits or stem. It’ll rot and die otherwise.

“You must keep in mind that it can’t come into contact with rainwater on a rainy day. If you’ve gone a long time without seeing the moon, you’ll have to use a LED light to shine on it at a distance. How far should the light be - that’s up to you. It’ll be fine as long as it’s not too close or far away. Keep that up for half a year, and the plant will blossom.”

Gregory frowned as he listened to Jeff.

It was not that he thought taking care of the plant sounded inconvenient. Rather, he thought it did not sound too hard for him to do at all.

He could have very well asked someone to study the plant, and they could probably come up with the same cultivation methods. If he had known how easy it was, he would not have sat and listened to Jeff’s ramblings.

His grievances aside, he had to acquiesce to the deal anyway because Jeff told him that just one Money Bead would not be enough for Vickie and that he would need a few more.

His expression eased quite a bit when he arrived at that thought.

“Okay, I understand. I’ll look out for anything about the Arcane Jade and let you know if anything comes up.”

Jeff did not speak again on the other side of the camera. They disconnected the call soon after that.

Mr. Osborne was mumbling about how magnificent the plant was after Gregory reiterated Jeff’s instructions to him. He could not believe such a magical thing existed in the world.

If they had not seen the plant in person, Gregory and Vickie would not even dare to think that something like that existed in the world either.

The two of them sat and stared at the golden plant. Their hearts felt burdened.

Vickie suddenly recalled something Sean once said, and her eyes brightened.

“Gregory, do you remember the genius doctor we met named Sean Miller?”

Gregory nodded. “Yeah, why?”

“He said he had read about this plant before. I feel like there’s a huge chance we might fail at keeping it alive. Why don’t we hand it over to Sean to take care of? He can also study it at the same time. Who knows? Maybe he’ll make some unexpected discoveries.”

Gregory’s eyebrows knitted together at her words.

It was not that he was selfish and wanted that thing to himself. It was just that he had to go through a lot to get his hands on the plant, and it could potentially save Vickie’s life. He really was not in favor of taking such a huge risk.

Vickie did not think so.

She tugged at Gregory’s hand and tried to convince him. “Think about it. Even if we manage to keep this thing alive for half a year, it’ll only blossom six fruits at the end. Those six fruits aren’t enough for two months. How many Money Beads can Jeff give you even after you’ve found all five of the Arcane Jades? We can’t go on like that. We’ll have to think of other ways to duplicate them. There are so many of them in the Flinders Clan, so I don’t believe that Jeff could dispense all of their share of the medicine with so few of the fruits at the very beginning.

“This means that this plant can be easily duplicated. Let’s hand this over to Sean and ask him to study it. If he really can’t make anything out of it -

fine. But if he finds something, then we’ll have a way out.”

She saw that Gregory was still hesitating. “Plus, Sean is Nell’s stepfather. I trust Nell, and I trust her family too.”

With those words, Vickie finally moved Gregory.

He met Vickie’s eyes and said, “What if it doesn’t work out?”

“If it doesn’t work out, then we’ll lose that Money Bead. It’s just one out of so many Money Beads though. It’s nothing.”

She had a big heart, and Gregory could not help but get infected by her positivity.

He took Vickie’s hand in his and sighed. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure it’ll never happen to you.”

Vickie knew exactly what he meant. She grinned and did not dwell on it too much.

After all, she was content that she was able to come so far in life.

Although no one would die willingly, what could she really do if Hades wanted to take her life from this world?

She could not actually pull Gregory along with her to die.

It was a blessing that she had been surrounded by loved ones and friends these past few years. She had gone through the good and bad in life.

Love, hatred, and pain were felt acutely alongside contentment. She had experienced all that she should experience and had all that she should have. Her life had been wonderful enough that she did not really have any regrets.

Well, if she had to think of any regrets at all, it would be...

Her eyes dimmed as she arrived at that thought, and she turned and looked at Gregory sitting beside her.

Gregory sensed her eyes on him, and his heart skipped a beat. He did not know why, but he felt that Vickie did not look like her usual self right now.

Her eyes were warm and filled with affection.

Nevertheless, Vickie grinned and did not say anything. She sneaked a glance at the clock and stood up.

“It’s late. Let’s go to bed. Whatever it is, we can talk about it tomorrow.”

Gregory glanced at the clock on the wall and realized it was already 1:00 pm.

He nodded and stood up as well, pulling Vickie in the direction of their bedroom.

When they entered the room, he went straight for a shower.

It was a quick shower, and he exited the bathroom in no time. To his utter surprise, a graceful figure greeted him with her back to him in his luxurious bedroom.

A rather sexy set of pajamas hugged the frame of the woman standing before him. The pajamas had a translucent quality to it, and the hem of the outfit stopped at her thighs. It accentuated her slim and slender waist and her pair of pale long legs. She looked as bright and attractive as a pearl under the dimming lights.

Gregory’s eyes darkened as he made his way to her.

Vickie heard his approaching footsteps a long time ago. She was actually a little nervous.

Although they had been married for quite some time now and had definitely fooled around more than once or twice, it had always been Gregory who initiated the first touch. She had never been as eager as she was tonight.

She was in the sexiest pajamas she could find right now as she stood and waited for him to come. Her mind was wondering what exactly he would think when he saw her and whether he would like her doing something like this.
