Chapter 1011
Spoiled by the President
Gideon nodded and followed Nell out the door.
He supported her by the arm as they walked into the living and sat down on the sofa.
âWhatâs wrong?âGideon asked.
âDo you remember that time I asked Janet for help to look for the Arcane Jades? She told me she had news, said thereâs someone named Uncle Alfuth who seems to have one in his possession. Iâve already told Vickie about this. Theyâll probably go there soon.â
Vickie and Gregory were not well acquainted with the Griffin family, and they had only met Janet and Liam once. âDidnât Old Madam say that she wants to attend Old Madam Griffinâs birthday celebration? Why donât we go with her? We can take care of her and help Vickie at the same time.â
Gideon stared at her and frowned.
âBut your body...â
Nell shook her head.
âIâm fine.â
She giggled lightly and took Gideonâs hand in her own, placing it on her stomach.
âSee? Your kids are behaving. Theyâre not bothering me at all.â
Gideon still looked more or less worried about her proposition. Nell continued, âWhatâs more, Iâm thinking of visiting my mother and Uncle Sean during this trip weâre taking. Iâm still a little worried about her even though we met last time and she seemed to be doing well. I want to see where she has been living all these years and whether sheâs doing okay. Just pretend youâre making me feel better by tagging along with me, okay?â
Gideon usually could not resist Nellâs begging.
Nell represented his whole life in his heart. How could he say no to the things she wanted to do?
Hence, he sighed helplessly and reached an arm out to pull Nell close.
âOkay, Iâll go with you.â
The corners of Nellâs lips tugged up into a satisfying smile when he agreed reluctantly.
She slid an arm around his lean waist and rested her head on his chest.
âGideon, youâre the best.â
......
The next day, Nell did not go to the office. Instead, she let Nancy drive her to the old residence.
Old Master and Old Madam were expecting her in their house.
They had ordered their butler to welcome her at the front of the residence.
Nell thought that this old couple was being rather dramatic. She was not an outsider, and it was certainly not her first time here. It was not like she did not recognize the way to their house. Nevertheless, the Old Madam still asked their butler to welcome her every time she came alone. It was a little embarrassing.
Despite that, the Old Madam insisted on doing so, citing the fact that she was pregnant and would have trouble walking as the reason. It would be horrible if she were to accidentally hurt herself.
Hence, she would always ask the butler she trusted most to welcome her arrival. It was only then that the Old Madam could stop worrying about Nell.
Nell wanted to laugh at the Old Madamâs loving concern.
She did not feel like she was having difficulties in walking. After all, she was only four months into her pregnancy and did not even look pregnant at all!
If she had difficulty walking now, then what would happen to those ladies who were eight or nine months pregnant?
Anyway, she recognized that it was the old coupleâs way of showing her that they cared about her. She would probably break their hearts if she were to turn their act of kindness down.
That was why Nell did not say anything about it.
She saw the Old Madam watching TV in the living room once she entered the house.
The Old Madam paused the program when she noticed her presence. She gave her a smile as she stood and welcomed her. âNellyâs here! Come, come. Let me look at you. Howâs your belly?â
Nell reciprocated her smile. âItâs still small. Youâre too impatient, Old Madam.â
The Old Madam supported her by the arm as she led her to the sofa to sit down. âHow can I not be impatient? Weâre already half-dead considering our old age. Iâm grateful if I can even live to see tomorrow. Of course, Iâll prefer it if I can carry my grandchildren in my arms as soon as possible.
What if something happens to me one day and I canât see them anymore?â
Nellâs expression darkened at her words.
âHey, donât say such nonsensical things, Old Madam! You and Old Master will live well into your hundreds. Whatâs with all this talk about death!â Nell chastised.
How could Old Madam Quinton not see that she was saying those words to comfort her?
Nevertheless, today was supposed to be a happy day, and she did not want to ruin it with any negativity, so she went along with Nell. âOkay, okay.
Weâre going to live long lives. Oh, yes. You told me over the phone that you have something youâd like to discuss with me. What is it?â
Old Master Leith was probably tending to his garden right now since he was nowhere in sight.
Nell pursed her lips and said, âDidnât you say that you want to attend Old Madam Griffinâs birthday celebration? Gideon and I thought about it. We donât feel right to let you and Old Master go alone. Itâs a total coincidence that we met Old Madam Griffin before and took a liking to her. Weâre thinking maybe we can accompany you on your trip there. What do you think?â
Old Madam Quinton froze and stared at her in confusion.
âYouâre going with us? Why?â
She shook her head without much consideration. âNo way. You and Gideon are already exhausted enough from having to go to work every day. Not to mention youâre also pregnant. Itâs going to be agonizing for you to sit on long plane rides. Plus, there are going to be so many guests at the party.
What are we going to do if you bump into something and hurt yourself? No, no. Thatâs too dangerous.â
âItâs not dangerous. Everyone will be there, and our doctor will be traveling with us too. This is not my first pregnancy. You worry too much, Old Madam,â Nell said with a smile.
Old Madam Quintonâs eyebrows remained knotted together.
Nell decided against telling her about Gregory Grahamâs situation. First of all, the Leith and Graham families were still essentially rivals even though their relationship in the country had seen some improvement recently.
She was afraid that Old Madam Quinton would not understand her friendship with Gregory and Vickie if she let on too much. By then, she would not only fail to explain the situation clearly, but she might also be making everything worse.

She told Janet because she knew she had to enlist Liamâs help since it happened in Country F. If Liam had to know about it, Janet would eventually know for sure. There was no point in concealing the truth from them.
Old Madam Quinton was a different case.
She heaved a sigh at that thought.
âOld Madam, I think I should tell you the truth. I want to go out this time not just to celebrate Old Madam Griffinâs birthday but also to take a trip to the desert and visit my mother. Iâve missed her since she left, and I want to see if sheâs doing well.â
Old Madam Quinton finally caught on to Nell.
âAnd here I was wondering why youâd want to go with us when you can stay at home.â
She was silent as she contemplated for a moment. Then, she nodded. âSounds good. I know you miss your mother desperately. I heard her current husbandâs name is Sean? Heâs a reputable doctor, isnât he?â
Nell nodded.
âIâm okay with that plan. At least your mother wonât treat you badly. Youâve got a fantastic doctor there with you as well. I wonât have to worry about you and your babyâs safety. If thatâs the case, you should go.â
A smile blossomed on Nellâs face.
