As soon as Nell raised the question, everybody was stunned.

“Hearing you say that, I was also suspicious of Jeff Flinders’ motive, but after observing him for quite some time, I still can’t determine his ultimate plan.”

Vickie was frowning too.

“Coming back to this topic, it isn’t the only thing that’s strange. There’s also something else bothering me.”

Nell asked, “What is it?”

“Gregory and I have met Jeff in person. Logically, if a person like him is so talented and powerful, he can’t have remained silent and discreet all these years. Yet, he has somehow controlled the entire Flinders family. Even Louis is as submissive as a slave in the former’s presence. I think there’s more to this matter than meets the eye.”

Everyone began to contemplate after hearing this remark.

What sort of man was Louis Flinders?

He was capable of securing his position as a patriarch amidst a competitive battle. It showed that he was no simpleton.

“If he doesn’t obey Jeff, he’ll die.”

The crowd was stunned.

Gregory furrowed his brows and said, “Could the Money Bead be in Jeff’s hands? Won’t the members of the Flinders family die if they don’t consume that medicine? Is this why Louis obeys him?”

Gideon shook his head.

“I’m not sure. Logically, the Flinders family has been around for many years, and the Money Bead is their lifeline. It shouldn’t be controlled by someone that easily.”

Then, a wrinkle appeared between his brows.

“We need to investigate this further and find out Jeff’s weakness. If we don’t research his background thoroughly, we’ll only be one step behind.”

Gregory nodded. He agreed with Gideon’s words.

“I’ll take care of this matter. Once I have results, I’ll inform you all.”

The rest of the people nodded.

They sat there for a little longer and chit-chatted. After lunch, they parted ways.

Naturally, Gideon and Nell followed Janet and Liam back to the Griffins.

As the birthday banquet would only begin at night, it was not too convenient for Vickie and Gregory to head there now. As such, they would come over at night.

It was 8:00 pm.

The banquet commenced as planned.

As it was a formal banquet, Nell and Gideon donned elegant outfits. The kids changed into a set of nice clothes too.

Old Madam Griffin was dressed in a dark red tangzhuang. She sat there with all smiles and seemed to be in good health as well as high spirits.

She had met those who came to wish her.

As her grandsons, Liam and Justin accompanied her and entertained the guests.

On the other hand, Janet did not have to busy herself with family matters, so she had free time and chatted with Nell.

At last, Old Madam Griffin could take a rest. After all, she was old and her body ached after sitting still for some time.

Therefore, Justin told Liam to stay and entertain the guests while he helped the Old Madam to the lounge at the back of the house.

Liam looked around the crowd before discovering where Janet was. He headed toward her.

Janet grinned. “You’re welcome. However, I haven’t told him the reason you want to see him. Do tell him that yourselves.”

Still, he was a businessman who had met all sorts of people. Very quickly, he steadied himself, stood up, and smiled. “You’re here. Come, have a seat.”

As he spoke, he scanned Gregory and Gideon from top to toe.

He was the president of the Leith Corporation. Whoever rode in the business circles frequently would know him.

He approached Gideon and shook his hand.

Gideon returned a wan smile. Liam introduced the middle-aged man to Gregory, Vickie, and Nell. Uncle Ian greeted them warmly.

After exchanging pleasantries, they sat down.

Uncle Ian drank his tea and chuckled. “You said you have something to discuss with me, young man. May I know what it’s about?”

Liam replied, “There’s something, and I’m afraid it requires you to part with something you love, Uncle Ian. I’ll let Gregory explain.”
