Chapter 1018
Spoiled by the President
He introduced every single person who was present to his wife.
Finally, he faced everyone and made an introduction saying, âAllow me to introduce my wife, Sarah.â
Liam and Janet hurried forward and greeted her politely. âHello, Mrs. Alfuth.â
Mrs. Alfuth seemed to be in her 40s. Perhaps her body condition was not so well, and she did not take much care of her skin, so she looked a little pale and haggard. However, one could see that her basic traits and features were still fine. She must have been a gorgeous woman when she was young.
She smiled and said, âItâs cold outside. If you have anything to talk about, come inside.â
Upon saying that, she moved her body aside and let them in.
A group of people entered the house. The heating had surrounded the entire house with warm air. Mrs. Alfuth ordered her maids to head over and take their coats from them.
Being in a hurry, Nell Jennings and the rest were still dressed in the same gown they wore to the dinner earlier, except that they had coats as their outerwear.
Fortunately, the house was warm. They did not feel cold even after taking off their coat. Eventually, they shed their coats one by one.
Mrs. Alfuth asked anxiously, âWhatâs going on? Isnât the Arcane Jade supposed to be at home? How can you say that you lost it?â
While mentioning the jade, Mrs. Alfuthâs face did not look well.
âI donât know whatâs going on either. All of the things at home are kept wherever youâve placed them, and no one has touched them. When you called me on the phone earlier to have me take the jade out of the safe box, it was then that I discovered itâs gone.â
Uncle Ianâs face turned sullen.
âTake me there to have a look.â
Then, a group of them headed toward the second floor.
That Arcane Jade was kept in the safe box previously. Although in Uncle Ianâs eyes, that jade could be counterfeit. This only meant that it was a fake Arcane Jade, and it did not necessarily invalidate the fact that it was a quality gem.
Therefore, he kept it inside a safe box and locked it up.
The safe box was placed in the bedroom on the second floor.
When the group of people came to the scene, what they saw was an opened safe box. In it, there were some cash and documents. There was a black velvet box next to it as well. Opening up the box, it was empty.
Uncle Ian walked forward hurriedly and picked up the box.
Nell asked, âWas the Arcane Jade kept inside this box previously?â
Uncle Ian nodded his head.
His face did not look well. While flipping the box over and over again, he looked inside the safe box and said in a deep voice, âWhen you unlocked the safe box, this box was opened like that?â
Mrs. Alfuth shook her head.
âNo, it was closed. I thought the jade was still in there, but when I took the box out, it felt so much lighter and seemed odd. To my surprise, as soon as I opened it, I discovered the jade was gone.â
Uncle Ian reacted with a frown on his face.
He and Sarah had been married for nearly 20 years, so she was absolutely trustworthy. However, apart from the two of them, their maids were not allowed to enter this bedroom without permission, so where did the jade go then?
As he thought about this, he turned his head and looked at Gregory.
âMr. Graham, Iâm really sorry. I thought I could help all of you out, but now...â
Gregory raised his hand and stopped him from continuing his words.
âNo one expected such a thing to happen. I believe in Uncle Ianâs genuine kindness. Now that the jade has disappeared, if youâre so inclined, weâre willing to find it back alongside you.â
Uncle Ian nodded his head.
âOf course, Iâm willing to do so, but... How do we find it?â
Doing business was his forte, but finding the thief left him in a state of bewilderment.
Gregory shifted his gaze to Mrs. Alfuth.
âWhen did you put the jade in it?â
Mrs. Alfuth replied softly, âItâs been kept inside a long time ago. A rough estimate would be five years ago.â
âIt was left untouched all the while?â
âNo,â Uncle Ian added, âWe run business everywhere and acquire property in every place we go to. This is just one of them. Sometimes when I have to stay here for business during the long term, Iâd live here. When I remember the jade, Iâd play with it, but the number of times that I did so can be counted on the fingers of one hand.â
âCan you recall when was the last time you saw it?â
âAbout... Three days ago?â
Uncle Ian thought and said hesitantly, âBack then, I originally thought of giving it to Old Madam Griffin as a birthday gift. But I changed my mind and thought it might bring bad luck since itâs fake. I ended up not giving it to her and put it back instead.â
âSo that means this jade disappeared within these three days. Besides the two of you in this mansion, has anyone entered this room in these three days?â
âNo.â
This time around, it was Mrs. Alfuth who spoke, âItâs just Uncle Ian and I living here. We donât have kids, so naturally, no one else will come here. Our maids are usually upstairs. The bedroom and study room upstairs are all taken care of by me, so itâs impossible for outsiders to come in.â
Janet said with a smile, âThen this is odd. No one came in... Could the jade have just disappeared into thin air?â
âOf course, it wouldnât disappear into thin air.â
Gregory walked toward the safe box and took a closer look. He asked, âThe safe boxâs password is only known to the two of you?â
âNo, another person whoâs aware of the password is my nephew. He was the one who helped us install this safe box. We donât have kids, so weâve always treated him like our biological son and never kept a secret from him. In case of any accidents, he can help us settle some things.â
Gregory nodded his head.
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 1017 Stolen He inspected the safe box for a while before walking outside to take a look at the bedroom door.
Vickie looked at him curiously, not knowing what he was checking.
Gregory asked, âWhereâs your nephew now?â
âOh, he attended Old Madam Griffinâs birthday banquet.â
âHe also went to the banquet?â Janet was surprised to hear that.
âWhatâs his name? It didnât seem that Iâd seen an unfamiliar face today.â
Since she had been married to Liam for so many years, she had seen all relatives of the Griffin family. While she did not have other strong points, the only strength she had was having a good memory.
Not mentioning whether she could remember every personâs name, but she would never forget the person after seeing their face at least once.
Mrs. Alfuth said in confusion, âYou didnât see him? Impossible. He told me that heâd attend the banquet.â
Liam asked, âMay I ask for your nephewâs name?â
âHis nameâs Shawn Charrington.â
Shawn Charrington?
Janet and Liam looked at each other.
It was a birthday banquet, so every guest who came to the banquet would present their gifts.
When receiving gifts, they would also note down the guestsâ names in a list as a record of favor exchange for future convenience.
Liam, being the only grandson of Old Madam Griffin, naturally went through the name list.
