Chapter 105
Spoiled by the President
Gideon held Nellâs gaze with quiet intensity.
âThatâs it?â
âWell? What else?â
âNothing.â
His eyes flashed with a different emotion, as if trying to conceal something. Nellâs hands clasped tightly together as she felt a sudden surge of anxiety.
However, she had always been good at concealing her true emotions. She regained her composure quickly after averting her eyes, all the while wearing an unperturbed expression on her face.
âSo is there any progress?â
âYup.â
With nothing to hide, Nell retrieved the photo given to her by Old K.
âSomeone messed with the car my mother was driving. The brake lines had been cut beforehand. I suspect that to be the cause of the accident.â
Gideonâs eyes widened.
A cold expression flashed across them.
âDo you need my help?â
âNo!â
Nell gave him a straight refusal. âI must handle this personally and not through someone else.â
Her mother had always been the person she loved the most in this world. She was only a young lady when her mother passed away unexpectedly five years ago. There was not much she could do back then apart from feeling helpless and unsettled.
Things had changed. She must uproot the killer now that she was more competent!
She would never let that person off the hook!
Gideon regarded her in silence before nodding several moments later.
He extended his arm to pet her head. âAlright, but you must tell me if you need anything,â he said softly.
Nell nodded.
Now that they had dealt with the elephant in the room, it was time for food.
Nonetheless, an embarrassed look washed over Nellâs face when they went down the stairs.
Gideon smiled through slightly pursed lips though he did not comment further. Aunt Joyce was over the moon to discover the couple had made up so quickly. She went on to serve the reheated meals back on the table.
After dinner, Gideon proceeded to take a shower whereas Nell laid down on the bed, lost in her own thoughts.
The manâs words from earlier replayed in her mind.
Stephanie was a foster daughter of the Garrett family?
She truly had no idea about this.
Her mind wandered back to his daughter once more. That child should be quite young. What about her mother? Where did she go?
Was she Gideonâs ex-girlfriend? Or...
Could it be the product of a one-night-stand?
Nell could not help but tremble at the thought of this.
Although she was not too pleased with this possibility, she understood that everyone had a past; both Gideon and herself included.
Thus she figured there was no need to delve too deep into this matter.
The night was dark. A yawn escaped Nellâs mouth subconsciously.
Simultaneously, Gideonâs cell phone rang out of the blue.
It was placed on the bedside table. He had not brought it with him into the bathroom.
Nell, who was sitting on the bed, could easily see the caller ID appearing on the phone screen.
Several alphabets danced across the screen.
--- Darling.
Nell raised her eyebrows in surprise.
Darling? Could it be... His daughter?
She darted her eyes to the direction of the bathroom. It would probably take Gideon some time before he reappeared since he had just got in.
She found herself in a dilemma, wondering if she should bring the cell phone over to him.
The phone stopped ringing abruptly.
Looking at the darkened phone screen, she decided to resume resting on second thought.
A couple of seconds later, however, the phone began ringing again.
It was the same number.
She hesitated. Perhaps something was wrong if the child was calling so urgently.
She grabbed the cell phone and headed for the bathroom.
Nell knocked on the door. âGideon Leith, you have a call.â
Her demand was replied with the sound of running water.
Nell knocked a couple more times but the man probably did not hear it due to the loud noise of water running in the background.
Left with no alternative, she walked back to the bed, thinking that she would notify him when he came out of the shower.
However, she must have mistakenly pressed the accept button when she placed the cell phone onto the table. The phone call had been answered.
This caught her surprise.
Oh shit!
She picked up the manâs call not long after interrogating him. Would this lead the man to thinking that she had no trust in him at all?
This was undoubtedly a shit move!
But it was already too late to hang up the call.
Besides, there would be records on the call log history even if she hung up hence this would not help the situation either.
Nell was on the verge of crying.
âEllo! Why are you not speaking?â
A child-like voice entered through the other end of the phone.
Nell was caught by surprise.
It was really a child?
The child on the other side of the phone call raised her voice after not receiving any reply. âEllo! Daddy, why are you not speaking to me? Are you angry again? Iâve been good and took my medicine today. Why are you still angry? If so, I wonât take my medicine next time.â
Nell was flustered, not sure if she should get Gideon or end the call abruptly.
âHmph, silly daddy! Whatever! I donât care about you too!â
The phone call was disconnected.
Nell stood there in daze with the cell phone still in her phone.
She finally recollected herself several moments later.
Um... What should she do?
It appeared that she had just answered someone elseâs phone call and created a massive misunderstanding!
Simultaneously, the bathroom door creaked softly and out of it came a man in a bath towel.
Although it was deep winter, the temperature of the room was warm as the central heating had been turned on.
He was not wearing any clothes so his toned muscles were clearly on display. A massive white bath towel with gold rim was wrapped around his waist, subtly covering the lower part of his body.
He was drying his damp hair using a smaller towel in one hand. Drops of water trickled down his chest onto his toned abs, until they slowly disappeared into the edge of the towel. This made a sexy sight to behold.
Perhaps an illusion was playing with Nellâs mind because, as soon as the man reappeared, the room felt somewhat cramped.
The room was over a hundred square meters, yet his domineering presence seemed to fill up the entire room, causing the other person to feel oppressed.
Nell glanced over at him before shifting her eyes away slowly. Her cheeks were flushed.
She did not dislike the seductive sight laid in front of her eyes. Quite the contrary, she feared she might involuntarily get a nosebleed.
Gideon had been observing her reactions. The corners of his lips twitched subconsciously upon discovering the redness that crept up to her ears, not to mention that inconspicuous effort of turning her face away slowly.
He undid the towel and began changing into his pajamas casually.
Even if Nell had her face turned away, she could not resist stealing a glance of that view out of the corners of her eyes.
The colors of her cheeks were bright red at this moment.
She finally complained, âCan you get changed in the bathroom? Thereâs... Thereâs someone here! Shameless.â
Gideon raised his eyebrows.
âMrs. Leith, weâre husband and wife.â
â...â
Nell was at a loss for words.
Biting down on her lips softly, she mumbled some time later. âNot real ones. Divorce is coming for us sooner or later!â
The sensitive man caught it even though she had said it at a near whisper.
He paused in his actions and a hint of coldness flashed across his eyes.
In the next few seconds, he put on his clothes immediately and walked toward the woman.

âHuh? Nothing?â
Nell stared back with innocent eyes.
âHa!â
The man smiled mockingly and leaned in to hold her chin up. âDivorce? No way. Dismiss that thought right away. Being my wife is not a game. You think you can walk in and out of my life as you wish? Who do you think I am?â
