Chapter 1023
Spoiled by the President
Along that voice came Cathyâs thin and slender figure.
Although shocked, a wave of joy flushed over Nellâs face.
âMom!â
Cathy felt extremely happy to see them too.
She did not care about the elbow support that the servants behind were giving her as she shook them off and rushed over to them.
âNelly!â
Although they had been separated for a few short months, they were still elated to meet one another as they gave each other a tight embrace.
Nell held onto her for what felt like a long time before she let go.
At this moment, the two little beanbags woke up in Gideonâs arms.
Rubbing their eyes, the children took their time to absorb the foreign state they were in. Confusion filled their faces as they laid their eyes on the stranger standing before them.
Strangely, Cathy did not feel the resentment she normally stored against newcomers. Perhaps it was because of the fact that she was rather comfortable with her current surroundings.
Upon seeing the two children, she smiled. She did not warm up immediately nor gushed just like normal grandparents did, yet Nell noticed that the usual trace of hostility had left Cathyâs eyes.
Smiling, Cathy said, âSo this is Lizzy and Little Viemond! Arenât you a stunner? Come, come, quickly follow me into the house! Donât just stand there under the heat.â
Gideon nodded his head as he carried the two children into the house.
It was only natural for Nell to support and hold onto Cathy as they walked.
Cathy noticed that Nell looked quite pale. Seeing her daughter in that state, her heart instantly ached for her. She then said, âIt mustâve been tough for you to travel all the way down to the chateau. Although the environment here is good, I got to admit that itâs a long trip from the airport. Folks like us are already used to it, yet I canât say the same for a pregnant lady like you. Alongside the heat, you must be feeling pretty worn out by now.â
Nell smiled and shook her head. âIâm fine. It wasnât that bad since theyâve got some iced water prepared in the car. Besides, it was air-conditioned too.
I just felt quite nauseous, probably because the baby will be due soon.â
Cathy chuckled. âFeeling nauseous during pregnancy is quite normal. Iâll just get Uncle Sean to prescribe you some medicine. Youâll be feeling better in no time.â
With that, Nell nodded her head.
As the group entered the house, Cathy immediately ordered the servants to prepare some desserts and tea.
In fact, the delicacies had long been prepared. They were just waiting for the servants to have it served.
One by one, the delicacies were quickly brought out to the living room. Cathy gestured the guests over to take a seat as she called Sean on the phone.
After a brief conversation, Cathy hung up. Then she sat down, laughed, and said, âUncle Sean was actually here with me just now. We were both waiting for your arrival but he had to leave suddenly after receiving an important call from the research lab. I just called to remind him to come back whenever heâs done with things over there.â
Nell smiled. âItâs fine if heâs busy. After all, I came to visit you, not him.â
Cathy felt tears well up at the bottom of her eyes.
Perhaps they were tears of joy, or perhaps she was just feeling sentimental. After all, she had finally accepted Nell as one of her own not long ago.
Seeing Nell gave a complicated mix of emotions.
She lowered her head as she fought back her tears but when she raised her head again, she smiled at Lizzy and little Viemond.
âHow old are they?â
Lizzy shot up and replied, âIâm nine this year, Grandma!â
Little Viemond added on childishly, âAnd Iâm four!â
Cathy could not help but burst into laughter.
âThatâs very nice of you to tell me that. Come, let me take a look at the two of you.â
The two children turned to look at Nell. Seeing that she did not object, they stomped over hurriedly and loudly.
The scenario was rather heartwarming as Cathy embraced the children.
Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that she would accept these children so quickly. However more, she had been quite against the idea of meeting them when Nell offered to bring them over for a visit.
Looking at them now, she felt no rejection. Instead, an odd feeling of love and affection arose at the bottom of her heart in which she had never felt this way before.
At this moment, a question popped into her mind.
Raising her head, she looked at Nell and asked, âHow could Lizzy be nine? Did you two...â
Nell knew what she wanted to ask.
As embarrassment flashed past her eyes, she let out a dry laugh before she said, âIâm not Lizzyâs birth motherâ
âAh?â
Cathyâs facial expression became ghastly as soon as she heard this.
She turned her gaze towards Gideon, his originally flawless image crumbling into chunks of dirt at that instance.
âI had no idea that this is President Leithâs second marriage. I just assumed that you got married young, which explains Lizzyâs age.â
Frankly, Nell was quite reluctant to talk about this in front of the children.
Lizzy had always been a sensitive child. The last time this had happened was when Jean tried to cast doubt on her actual motherâs identity. It was so bad that they almost had a falling out.
Since that incident, Nell had forbidden anyone to talk about such matters again.
She did not know what to do at that moment. Silently, she sent Gideon a signal of help.
Realizing what was going on, he stood up, laughed, and said, âNo, you got it all wrong. This is my first marriage, itâs just that Lizzy...â
âLizzy had always taken Nelly as her birth mother.â He smiled.
Lizzy nodded her head furiously.
Afraid that Cathy did not believe him, Lizzy gazed at her. With a serious tone, she said, âI only have one Mommy, Grandma. You canât doubt my Mommy nor my Daddy.â
Lizzy did not understand what the adults were talking about, but she could hear from Cathyâs tone that she had formed a disliking towards her father.
That was why she decided to bump in and help straighten things out.
However, Cathy was just being protective of her own daughter when she said that.
She did not yield any bad intentions against anyone in the room.
Moreover, although Nell did not give birth to Lizzy, you could tell with one glance that they looked alike.
They said that some people were bound to be mother and daughter.
It did not matter if they shared the same blood or not because eventually, Lizzy would take after Nell in terms of appearance and qualities.
She let out a smile as she caressed Lizzyâs head soothingly.
âYouâre the cutest and prettiest girl on the entire planet you know, Lizzy? I wonât doubt your parents anymore, but do me a favor and stay here with your Daddy and younger brother for a while. Iâm gonna need a moment with your Mommy.â
Staring back at her was Lizzyâs huge, googly eyes.
Partially understanding what Cathy had said, Lizzy reluctantly nodded her head. âOkay.â
As Cathy got up from the chair, Gideonâs gaze darkened.
He did not say much as he gestured to the two children to go back to him.
Slightly embarrassed by what happened, Nell waited for Cathy to calm down before calling out, âMom.â
âCome with me, Nelly.â
Without giving her daughter a chance to explain, Cathy turned and left.
