Chapter 1028
Spoiled by the President
Upon seeing this, Nell did not push further for answers.
The group walked past the long pathway as they entered the shrine hall before they saw the Fairyâs tall statue in front of them.
Glinting with gold, the sculpture stood a few meters tall and as a ray of sunlight streamed in, the sculpture reflected the bright light onto the onlookers, blinding them in return.
Standing under it, Lizzy raised her head and looked at the sculpture before her. She let out a soft sigh. âWow, isnât she tall?â
Nell laughed. âThereâs the pretty fairy you wanted to meet. If you have any wishes, make it now.â
Lizzy nodded her head. With her palms folded, she closed her eyes as she started to pray.
Standing nearby, Cathy did the same but Nell and Gideon were not as religious. Instead of paying their respects to the fairy, they looked around in curiosity.
Little Viemond suddenly spoke.
âLook, mommy! Pretty sister!â
As he said that, he raised his finger and pointed.
Nell began to trace the direction of his finger.
Her gaze then landed on a wall painting. As a saying went, looking from afar was sometimes better than close-ups. All she knew was that it was a huge painting and that it definitely was no fairy. The closer she got to the painting, the harder it was for her to make out what was drawn on it.
The mural had been painted in all shades of color so it felt comfortable to look at from afar. Holding Little Viemondâs hand, they approached the painting, and only then did she realize that it really was a woman.
Dressed in gold, the woman was barefooted and standing on a cloud. She was exceptionally beautiful.
Nell could not help but smile. âYouâre right, it really is a pretty lady. Iâm glad that your eyesight is better than mine...â
Little Viemond burst into little fits of laughter.
Gideon walked over too and stared at the mural on the wall. Feeling amused, he laughed. âWho knew that a North African fairy would have the features of an East Asian? How amusing.â
Nell replied, âYouâre right, but didnât history show that North Africans used to migrate over to East Asia? That was probably why the woman on the mural looks like one of us.â
Gideon did not say anything as they locked eyes for a moment. Once Lizzy had finished making her wish, they brought her along and left the hall.
As they were making their way out, a worker came forth and sought donations.
Nell did not expect that.
She thought that having to pay for the entry tickets was already more than enough.
Since they were out on a vacation, she did not think much and simply took a few bills out from her purse.
They waited for a while before Cathy came out of the shrine hall.
She immediately walked over to Nell in a hurry and said, âGuess what I found out, Nelly?â
Looking at her, Nell smiled and asked, âWhat?â
âWerenât you asking about who built this place? I did some digging and found out that the owner of this palace is someone who came from the East.â
Nell was shocked.
âThe East?â
âYes, but the workers donât know anything much other than this. When I asked about the castleâs finances, they said that it was controlled by someone, but they didnât know who.â
Nell frowned.
Somehow, something felt fishy about this place after listening to what Cathy said.
However, she brushed away that thought and did not think much of it anymore. It was just a small matter anyway.
The worker who had asked for donations before this then told them that they could get some fruits, that were blessed by monks, at the back of the palace. Those who eat the fruits were said to receive good fortune.
Nell and Gideon did not care about the fruits but since they had already made the effort to visit this place, they just wanted to explore it and join in the occasion.
With that, the group headed to the back hall of the palace.
Lining up to receive their blessings, they saw a small crowd had started to form in the hall.
She thought to herself at how ridiculous these people were. Did they really think that their lives would change for the better with just a few blessings?
No, these people were probably just going with the flow.
A worker walked towards them and passed her a fruit.
Accepting it, she took a look at the fruit and realized that it was just an apple with wilted skin wilted. The apple did not look fresh at all.
She was now disgusted. She then shared a look with Gideon as she placed the apple on a table before she turned and left.
A bypasser saw what she had done and rushed over to the table. Picking up the fruit, he quickly gave it a bite and gobbled down the apple.
Godspeed, he was so fast that you would probably mistake him as a burglar.
Nell had a bad feeling about this place.
A shiver ran down her spine as she walked out of the back hall.
Nell felt reassured when Cathy said that.
She was not a petty person, but to be frank, the palace was supposed to be a place of worship.
Yet this palace was the total opposite of what she thought it to be. Instead of serenity, the place felt quite tacky and cheap.
She could not say much for the others. After all, this was their religion and it would be rude to do so.
The good thing was that Cathy did not believe in the legend of the fairy.
Going through death once had made Cathy realize how superficial her life had been.
Ever since then, all she wanted to do was to spend the rest of her life with Sean. She had no relative before but now that she had Nell, she felt that the void in her heart had finally been filled.
Contented with the way things were, she naturally did not need to seek any spiritual guidance from the Gods.
Still, Nell could not explain why she was feeling that way. All she hinted at was that Cathy should never step foot into this place again.
As she thought about that, she reminded herself to let Uncle Sean know about this place when she got back to the chateau later.
With her mind set, she did not look back as she walked towards the exit.

Since they were holding hands, Nell naturally followed and paused when she felt a gentle tug by her shoulders.
She turned her head, looked at Gideon, and asked, âIs everything okay?â
He stared at a direction in silence.
She followed his gaze and found herself looking at the hallway of the palace. There was nothing much there, only a few passersby and some tourists.
She creased her forehead.
âWhat are you looking at?â
Gideon looked away.
Shaking his head, he said, âNothing.â
Subsequently, he asked Cathy, âIt seems kind of late now. Should we head back for a rest?â
Cathy checked the time and realized that Gideon was right. It was already 4:00 p.m.
From the moment they left the chateau, a good six, seven hours had passed. It would be a lie if they said that they did not feel worn out.
