Chapter 11
Spoiled by the President
Nellâs cold words did not force Jason back.
He said squarely, âAnyway, since youâre here, I have something to ask you. Just where did you go last night? Why didnât you answer my calls?â
Nellâs eyes flickered.
Jason had indeed called her several more times last night, but she had been with Gideon Leith at the time and had not heard the phone.
She saw the missed calls this morning but did not bother paying attention to it.
After all, whether it was he was worried for her or he was trying to reprimand her, with their current relationship, it was no longer appropriate.
Thinking of this, she raked a hand through her hair and replied lazily, âJason Morton, who died and made you king?â
Jason was stunned. âWhat?â
âWhy do I have to answer your calls?â
Jason was dumbfounded for a second before her words finally registered, and he immediately flew into a rage.
âNell! Donât be ungrateful! Iâm only concerned about you!â
âOh? Does Celine know how much you care about me?â
Her brows were raised in a smile that did not seem like a smile.
Jasonâs expression twisted in anger, but he could not say a word against her.
At that moment, a clear and sweet voice came from the door of the villa.
âJason!â
Looking back, she saw Celine running out in a lilac, long-sleeved dress.
Jasonâs face eased up at the sight and he strode towards her.
âWhy did you come out wearing that? Itâs windy outside.â
âIâm fine. Itâs not cold.â Celine smiled up at him before her gaze fell on Nell and she paused.
Then, she revealed a sweet smile and hurried over to Nell.
âSister, youâre still here? Oh, you didnât drive here? Should I ask the chauffeur to send you back?â
Nell looked at Celineâs gentle and kind expression and quirked the corner of her lips in a mocking manner. âNo need. Iâll hail a taxi.â
Celine hesitated for a moment before smiling. âSister, donât try to be brave. Itâs not easy to get a taxi here. Besides, itâs not safe to go home alone so late. Just let me get the chauffeur to take you home!â
Then, she beckoned a servant.
âFind a driver to send my sister back.â
The servant nodded and turned to call for someone.
Nell saw how Celine acted as if she was the master of the Jennings family and suddenly felt a little sick.
To think that just five years ago, Celine had been a small country bumpkin. At that time, the mother and daughter had no say in anything, but in just a few years, the situation had changed dramatically.
Nell sneered in her heart. Naturally, her expression did not look happy either. She said coldly, âCeline Jennings, are you deaf? When did I agree to let the chauffeur take me home?â
Celine was startled and took a step back at Nellâs icy eyes, as if she was frightened by Nellâs harsh words and looks.
âSister, donât be angry. Iâm just concerned about you.â
âConcerned about me?â Nell scoffed and playfully stepped forward. âThe person who was, until a second ago, working with grandmother to threaten me is now saying that sheâs concerned about me? Celine Jennings, arenât you afraid you wonât be able to take off that fake mask of yours if you wear it for too long?â
Celine paled slightly and a layer of mist instantly emerged in her soft eyes.
âSister, Iâm only worried about you. How could you say that...â
Her trembling body looked so thin and fragile that Jason could not help but take a big step forward and gather her into his arms.
He glared viciously at Nell.
âNell Jennings! Can you stop talking like that? Youâre like a hedgehog who stabs anyone who tries to come near you! Celine is just being kind. Just refuse her if youâre unwilling. Why do you have to say such words to her?â
Nell paused as she watched him passionately defend Celine.
Then, her lips hooked up in mockery as her heart cooled.
They had been together for six years. Jason had not treated her badly. In fact, he could have been considered gentle and considerate.
Otherwise, she would not have been able to stay with him for six whole years.
However, she just did not understand. Why had he not broken up with her earlier if he liked Celine so much?
Nell was not someone who refused to lose. If he had broken up with her honorably and got together with Celine, Nell would not say anything even if she was sad and upset.
Instead, he waited until she caught them in the sheets together and caused all of them to end up in this embarrassing state!
Nell tilted her head and said coldly, âIf you donât want to be stabbed, then just f*ck off. Iâm warning you. Donât flirt in front of me. Havenât you heard that couples that show off their love die quicker?â
âYou!â
Jason was furious but Celine hurriedly stopped him. âJason, forget it! Sister is in a bad mood. Letâs not fight with her...â
Jason glared hatefully at Nell and swung his hand in anger.
âFine! I wonât bicker with you. A person with a personality thatâs as icy and prickly as you will never find a man who wants you! Donât regret it when the time comes! Celine, letâs go!â
He spat out and pulled Celine back into the villa.
Nell stood alone in the cold night breeze and shivered for no reason.
No one would want her?
Her heart suddenly ached dully and her eyes started to sting.
However, she looked up and blinked hard several times, pushing the sourness down.
Then, she laughed at herself.
âWhat are you crying about?
âYouâve heard all sorts of ugly words. A dog canât spit out ivory. Why are you bickering with a dog anyway?â
She took a few deep breaths to calm her emotions.
At that moment, âhonkâhonkââ, two honks sounded in front of her.
Nell looked over and saw a black Rolls-Royce drive up to her.
The bright headlights made her raise her hand to shield her eyes from the glare. Soon, the car passed by and stopped in front of her.
âMs. Jennings! Hello again!â
Gideon Leithâs assistant, Matthew Starks, got out of the car. Naturally, Nell recognized him. She had seen him in the morning after all.
She forced a smile, feeling slightly embarrassed. âWhy are you here?â
âMr. Leith finished attending a dinner party. We just happened to pass by here when he saw you standing by the roadside, so he ordered me to stop.â
Then, he smiled and opened the door to her, bowing respectfully. âMs. Jennings, please.â
Nell hesitated.
She looked at the man in the car. He sat there quietly with one elbow on the window, looking out of the window yet seemingly not seeing anything. He appeared slightly languid.
Even in the dim light of the night, his handsome profile was unbearably clear. The cold aura from his body gave off the feeling that he was distant and indifferent.
She paused for a few seconds before getting in the car.
As soon as she sat down, she smelled the pungent scent of alcohol.
Nell was slightly stunned and subconsciously blurted, âHave you been drinking?â
