Chapter 117
Spoiled by the President
With Nell an insensitive child in the first place, she, the grandmother should not be blamed for being heartless.
With that in mind, Sylvia exclaimed in a hoarse voice, âCanât you see thereâs someone sitting here? So what if you donât know him? Why didnât you greet him?â
Nell frowned.
As she had never been involved with the Jenningsâ business, she did not recognize the need to greet Mr. Cap.
Nevertheless, she turned her gaze towards the smiling man who had been eyeing her.
Still, she paid due respect to Sylvia in front of outsiders and greeted, âMr. Cap.â
âOh, thereâs no need to be polite. Iâm only older than you by a few years. Just call me Brother Cap or Brother Dylan.â
Dylan gave a friendly smile, with a hint of ingratiation.
In her mind, Nell rolled her eyes.
Older by a few years?
It should be older by decades, all right?
If she recalled correctly, Dylan was in his late thirties, pushing forty!
Did people these days think that a beard shave and hair dye would give the impression that they were twenty-one?
Nonetheless, she kept these thoughts to herself. Of course, she was not going to address him as Brother Cap. Instead, she faintly threw a glance at Sylvia.
âIâm busy tonight, just speak if you have something to say!â
Sylvia replied in a low voice, âWhatâs the rush? I called you home to have dinner together. Look at your manners, rushing to leave before food is even on the table.â
She then turned to smile apologetically at Dylan. âMr. Cap, Iâm so sorry. This girlâs really spoiled by the family. She can be headstrong, please pardon us.â
Dylan immediately burst into chuckles. âItâs alright, itâs quite alright. I really like Ms. Jenningsâ bluntness.â
Frowning, Nell was able to detect an ominous air befalling from their conversation.
Just then, a cheeky voice was heard from the outside.
âGrandmother, whose car is it parked out there? Do we have guests today?â
Celine entered arm in arm with Jason.
The moment Nell caught a glimpse of her, her eyes turned cold.
Celine, on the other hand, expressed pleasant delight.
âSister! Youâre home!â
She let go of Jasonâs arm and ran over, elated.
As Celine approached, she took notice of Dylan sitting on the sofa.
âHuh? Who is this?â
A grin never left Sylviaâs lips ever since Celine entered the room.
Sylvia swiftly introduced them with a smile. âThis is Mr. Cap from Jinshang. He has helped our family for years. You can call him Brother Cap.â
Beaming, Celine complacently welcomed him. âBrother Cap.â
Dylan returned a smile. âI have long heard of your good name. Youâre indeed as beautiful as I thought. Itâs nice to meet you.â
With that, he got up to exchange a handshake with Celine.
He then turned to Jason who was beside Celine. His eyes lit up.
âYou must be the young master of the Mortons!â
Jason faintly beckoned. âYes.â
âI didnât think I'd be able to meet you today. Itâs a great honor to see you.â
Jason subconsciously took an instant disliking towards this fawning greasy man but still gave an indistinct nod for the sake of the Jennings.
âMr. Cap, youâre too polite.â
Thereupon, Sally came out to inform everybody that dinner was ready. They could make way to the dining hall for dinner.
The people got up and strolled towards the dinning hall in a clatter.
Nell wittingly fell behind the pack, unwilling to keep to pace with anyone here. However, out of unknown intentions, Dylan slowed down his footsteps as well.
He stared intently at Nell, feasting his eyes on the aloof woman who transcended the mortal world.
Such a presence added to her already-exquisite face. He just wanted to tear that cold front apart, pressed his body against hers, and ravish her.
Living in his fantasy, Dylanâs gaze turned scorching.
He curried favor with a grin. âMs. Jennings, so youâre not living in the Jenningsâ residence? Are you living alone outside?â
Nell fixed her gaze to the front, refusing to grant him even a fleeting glance, let alone answering his answer.
She finally got to the bottom of it. There was something fishy about the way Dylan was looking at her. Sylviaâs sudden order for her return was probably a trap in disguise of a banquet.
Only... Wasnât Sylviaâs plan to get on Gideonâs good side through her?
Despite insight on her relationship with Gideon, Sylvia still introduced her to another man. Had she lost it?
With a frown, Nell was wondering what on earth Sylvia had up her sleeve.
Nellâs refusal to speak saw a malicious glint in Dylanâs eye.
He was a master of deception though, resuming to his gentle and ingratiating self in a second.
âMs. Jennings, you donât have to be wary of me. I believe youâre able to guess your grandmotherâs intentions but Iâm a man who respects women. No oneâs going to force you if youâre unwilling. Even if we donât end up together, weâre still friends, right?â
Nell finally looked him in the eye.
She slightly curled her lips. Her eyes spelt mockery.
âMr. Cap, itâs great that youâre clear on that. We can all treat tonightâs dinner as an ordinary gathering. No one has to come into each otherâs way, what do you say?â
Although he could already tell that the woman was not interested in him, her words still put him in a spot.
Gritting his teeth, Dylan pulled a stiff smile. âAre you really not going to give it another thought? For Old Madam Jennings to introduce me to you, she must have done her homework and felt we made a good match. Ms. Jennings, you might be a woman of many qualities but these days, it all boils down to family social standings when looking for a wife for elite families.
âI, Dylan Cap, might not amount to these families, but Iâve earned quite a name for myself in Jincheng. There's certain areas where people like the Hancocks and Mortons have to roll out the red carpet for us and at times, seek help from us. Youâre not losing anything by marrying me.â
Nell smiled.
âDo you think that I should go along with the idea immediately?â
âIâm not saying that you should say yes right away. I understand your concern after all. I know girls! Itâs important to know what kind of guy youâre choosing. Itâs only right if you want to think it over.
âMy only hope is that you donât flat out decline without a second thought. Everyone knows about my past. Although I have an ex-wife, sheâs already dead. We didnât have a child.
âYou, on the other hand, have a past that isnât that easy to break free from. It does your honor no harm with only a handful aware of your past but have you thought of the consequences once word gets out?â
He paused and gave her a meaningful look before adding. âMs. Jennings, anyone can tell that we make a great pair. There are some people who donât suit you. Itâs high time to let go!â
Nell, â...??â
She had seen multiple characters in her lifetime but it was her first time coming across such a thick-skinned shameless man.
Great pair?
Great pair, your ass!
