Chapter 134
Spoiled by the President
Everyone was utterly shocked.
Bear in mind that a little spill of boiling tea could give one a blister, not to mention an entire cup being thrown in someoneâs direction.
All eyes darted toward Nell immediately. She was unharmed as she managed to dodge it just in time. The teacup smashed against the wall, eventually scattering its shattered pieces across the ground.
They all heaved a sigh of relief.
Frustrated glances were cast in Jeanâs direction.
Nell was slightly annoyed too.
She respected Jean for the fact that she was the one who raised Gideon from a young age. She did not wish to start an argument with this woman.
However, that did not mean that Jean could do as she pleased and constantly provoke disputes.
An unperturbed expression washed over Nellâs face as she inquired in a deep voice. âAunt, youâre in your forties, but donât you know that you should wait for the tea to cool slightly before drinking?
âThis was something even a child in kindergarten knew. However, youâre shifting the blame to the person who poured the drink? Are those eyes and fingers of yours there for show? Could you not see the steam or feel the warmth coming from the cup? Only realize itâs piping hot once itâs in the mouth?â
Jean never expected this from Nell.
Being the youngest daughter in the Leith family, Jean had always been showered with flattery remarks and compliments all her life. She had never been subjected to humiliation like this before.
How dare this woman scold her?
Mocking her to be worse than a child in kindergarten?
Oh goodness, where did this woman gain her boldness? Did she know who she was dealing with?
Not only Jean but Stephanie and the other servants were stunned into silence too.
They marveled at Nellâs courage.
When Gideonâs parents were not around, Jean took up the role of his mother to a certain extent.
She was technically Nellâs mother-in-law according to this logic!
It was truly something that she dared speak to her mother-in-law in this manner...
Amazing!
Jean was about to lose it. âWho do you think you are! How dare you talk back to me? Did you know that I raised Gideon? One word from me and youâll never be allowed to set foot in here ever again!â
âItâs exactly because of that reason that Iâve treated you with much respect. Not everyone in the world returns politeness with equal respect though.
Certain people behave arrogantly in othersâ territory using past kindness as an excuse. I donât think I have to tolerate that kind of attitude if so.â
âYou! You!â
Jean pointed angrily at the woman. Her face was flushed red with fury but no words came out from her mouth.
Stephanie frowned and stepped forward to hold the woman by the arms.
âAunt Jean, are you alright?â
It took Jean some time to release that breath that she had been holding. She nodded frantically, her finger still directed at Nell.
âWell, well, well! This is the first time someone has spoken to me like this. Wait and see! Iâm curious who Gideon will pick between us two.â
With that, Jean stomped away in rage along with Stephanie.
The group of servants remained quiet out of fear.
It was only until the sound of the car engine disappeared into the far distance that Aunt Joyce approached Nell slowly. âMissus, Iâm afraid Aunt will not leave this issue unsettled. You...â
Nell lowered her gaze for several seconds before replying flatly, âLet her be!â
She did not become who she was today by currying favor with anyone else.
Although she respected the basic politeness between humans, she would never give in if the other person insisted on beating her by ranks of seniority.
No matter who that person was!
âBut... What about Sir...â
Aunt Joyce was ill at ease.
Nell attempted a faint smile.
âWhatâs the point of being husband and wife if he doesnât believe me when it comes to something as trivial as this?â
She left after that.
Leaving Aunt Joyce standing alone with a baffled expression written all over her face.
On the other side.
Leith Corporation.
Someone pushed open the door to the President's office abruptly. Gideon frowned. He lifted his eyes to find Jean, who was gorgeously dressed, and Stephanie barging into the room.
âAunt Jean, Elder Brother Gideon is working, we...â
âStephanie, stop holding me back. You saw how that woman treated me. Donât you think itâs fair for me to demand an explanation from Gideon? I must see him today!â
The two of them approached Gideon in a matter of seconds.
He stood up straight and darted a look at Matthew who was standing by the door. The latter was washed over with anxiousness but he dared not step forward to stop the women. Gideon retrieved his gaze and shifted his attention back to Jean.
A smile washed over his handsome face. âAunt, when did you come?â
Jean was dressed in a white Chanel suit. She still looked attractive in her forties.
However, the exasperation on her face affected her grace.
She inhaled deeply. Instead of answering the question, she threw him some of her own without beating around the bush. âGideon, whatâs wrong with you? Weâve introduced numerous well-bred young ladies from prestigious houses of the capital but you didnât lay your eyes on any of them. You took your time but chose this thing in the end! Whatâs so great about her that you wouldnât marry anyone else?â
This caught Gideon by surprise. His face grew overcast.
âYouâve been to Leith Garden?â
Jean flew off the handle at the sound of his serious tone.
âSo what? I canât go to Leith Garden now that your darling is living there? I just did, so what are you going to do about that? Gideon Leith, what the hell did that woman do to you? How could you speak to your aunt in this tone?â
Tears welled up in her eyes.
The frustration in her heart grew more intense.
Stephanie twitched her well-trimmed brows at the sight of this and proceeded to comfort Jean gently.
âAunt Jean, donât say that. Elder Brother Gideon has always respected you. Everyone knows that.â
She threw a tactful glance at Gideon as she spoke.
Gideon ignored it completely.
âAunt, Nell is not a thing nor that kind of woman. Sheâs my wife and Leith Garden is her home. You didnât look for me in the office when you first arrived in Jincheng but caused trouble for her. How could you shift the blame on others then?â
Those words provoked Jean even more although his tone was mild.
âGideon Leith! Do you hear yourself? Leith Garden is her home? Thatâs your territory! Leith familyâs territory! Why would a nobody... A nobody like her can call that place her own...â
âAunt!â
If Gideon was serious earlier, then he was truly annoyed now.
An unperturbed expression washed over his face as he replied in a deep voice. âIâll reiterate one last time that sheâs my wife!â
â...â

Stephanie who sensed the tension in the air quickly stepped forward to mediate the dispute.
âElder Brother Gideon, Aunt is only saying that out of anger so don't take it seriously. Besides, itâs true that earlier...â
She bit her lips and said awkwardly, âMiss Jennings was indeed rather overbearing. Of course, Iâm not taking sides but Aunt is her senior after all.
She shouldnât say those words no matter what!â
