Chapter 138
Spoiled by the President
Sylvia paused for a brief moment and sighed heavily.
âSheâs a filial child, but too bad sheâs born a girl thatâll be married off in the end. Itâs not her place to inherit the thriving family business.â
Ethan felt a shiver down his spine. He stole a glance at the woman cautiously.
Sylvia reached out to take a sip of the hot tea next to her before glancing back at her son. âIs Sam coming home soon?â
Sam Jennings was Ethanâs nephew, the only child of Sylviaâs second son. That made him her only grandson by blood.
Back in the days, Ethan who was only a student living in extreme poverty connected with Cathy Morrison, the darling daughter of the richest family in Jincheng. It was because of this reason that Jennings' living situation enjoyed a meteoric rise.
It was a shame that the Jennings was a small household. Back in that era where it was considered common for each household to have four to five children on average, the Jennings only had a pair of boys.
The second son, James Jennings, passed away at a young age due to disease, leaving behind a pregnant widow. Taking pity on the poor woman, Cathy invited them over to Jincheng and found a house for them to stay.
Their sister-in-law Ann Stewart had an indifferent personality. Despite living in the same city, she had not stayed in touch much with either the Jennings or the Morrisons.
Cathy respected the womanâs decision to maintain the distance thus she did not initiate contact unless necessary.
The only exception was ten years ago when Sam wished to pursue his studies abroad. Ann who was not in the best financial condition at that time received assistance once again from Cathy.
Those two families should have been close relatives but not many exchanges happened between them in recent years.
Ethan averted his gaze and nodded softly.
âThatâs right. I was told over the phone that heâs coming home in April.â
âWell, thatâs great. Jennings blood runs in him too. Heâs always been a smart child with outstanding academic results. I believe Jennings Corporation will have a bright future under his management.â
Ethan frowned ever so slightly.
Sylvia did not comment further but waved her hand dismissively in the air. âAlright then, get on with your responsibilities. Iâm tired and I need a rest.â
âAlright.â Ethan finally nodded.
......
On the other hand.
Nell was absorbed in her work.
Danielâs recent schedule had been hectic although he was working mainly on small-scale commercial events. He had only returned from abroad lately thus it would require more time until they could land the next big project.
The most recent and important event was probably his first concert since returning.
It was only a mini-concert with one session lasting less than two hours. The objective of this non-commercial event was not to sell as many tickets as possible. Although he had a major fan base, he had only just returned from abroad, not to mention that he had not been involved in local events in recent years. Due to this reason, not many among them were loyal fans.
Most of them were attracted to his looks or more recent works.
Nell organized this mini-concert in a fan meeting setting to bring him closer to his audience, hoping to turn them into loyal fans.
After all, the practice within the entertainment industry over here was different from other countries; it was mandatory to gather a group of loyal fans that would stand up for their idols during unexpected incidents. Daniel who had been pursuing his career overseas was not familiar with these practices thus the company had to consider that.
The mini-concert was a great success. Daniel was already experienced in making his fansâ hearts flutter.
His fansâ voices turned coarse from all the hysterical shouting when they were only several minutes into the concert. The general atmosphere was satisfactory.
Nell who came to oversee the event personally was relieved by the pleasant outcome.
She was about to leave when she noticed a familiar small figure sitting in the dark corner of the auditorium.
Lizzy?
What was she doing here?
Nell scanned around but realized no one was accompanying the girl.
The little child was sitting all by herself in the corner, her eyes focused on the stage. That fair and delicate tiny face shrouded by dark shadows made a pitiable sight.
Nell picked up her pace.
âLizzy, what are you doing here alone? Whereâs your family?â
The little one finally retrieved her gaze from the stage. Her eyes twinkled with brilliance at the sight of the woman.
âMommy!â
She leaped out of the bench in joy and dashed toward the woman.
Nell quickly extended her arms to receive the child. Simultaneously, one of the staff who was walking over to report the eveningâs flow stared at this scene in disbelief.
Was President Jennings... Married?
She had a child this age?
Oh gosh! What juicy gossip had they been missing?
Nell did not know what was playing on the other personâs mind. She hastily received the report and dismissed the staff.
Then, she placed the little one back to the ground. In all seriousness, she questioned the child while looking right into her eyes. âWhy are you here alone? Whereâs your nana?â
Lizzy pouted almost immediately.
âI lost my nana again. Mommy, why donât you bring me home? Let me stay with you!â
âUm...â
This surprised Nell and she was unsure how to react.
âLizzy, you canât say things like this to strangers or it might bring trouble. Why donât you tell me how you got lost with your nana? Iâll try to bring you to her, alright?â
Lizzy tilted her head to one side and blinked her rounded eyes.
âBut weâre no strangers! Mommyâs the best mommy in the world. Why will you be a stranger?â
Nell smiled helplessly.
She knelt to the ground to explain patiently.
âBut we havenât known each other for that long. What if Iâm a bad person? Then youâll be in danger, wouldnât you?â
Lizzy pondered over her words.
Finally, she nodded reluctantly.
âOkay! I know youâre saying that for my own good. I accept your kindness.â
She patted Nell on the head as she said that as if trying to convey that she would tolerate the womanâs reluctance to believe true love and genuine affection existed in this world.
Nell was amused by the girlâs reaction. Seeing as there was no one around, she lifted the child into her arms.
âWell, tell me, Lizzy, where did you first realize you were separated with your nana? Iâll bring you to her right now!â
Lizzy appeared somewhat unwilling but she nodded eventually nonetheless.
âOkay!â
According to the child, she got lost by the entrance because of the crowd.
Nell was in a rage after listening to the childâs description.
These careless parents!
How could they allow an elder to wander about with a child so young?
It was not convenient for the elder to carry the child for an extended period. Besides, the child was still so young. It would only take a couple of seconds to lose sight of her in crowded places.
She really could not fathom the adults in the girlâs household!

Those who came to watch the concert were probably still inside anyway.
