Chapter 140
Spoiled by the President
Nellâs heart melted instantly.
She turned to the old lady, who returned the gaze with earnestness brimming in her eyes. How could one refuse this old lady and little girl?
Eventually, Nell canceled her original dinner plan and drove both the elder and the child to a family-friendly restaurant in the downtown area.
This restaurant was cozily furnished. It was also Nellâs first visit to this place.
Numerous parents with young children were dining here too.
The dining tables were positioned on one side, whereas the other part of the restaurant was furnished into a mini playground.
They placed their orders within minutes. Seeing as it would take some time to prepare the food, Nell encouraged Lizzy to play along with the other children in the playground.
However, Lizzy shook her head. She appeared disdained and on high alert when she turned to watch the other children playing together not far away.
Nell discovered that the child had a cold personality despite always looking enthusiastic on the surface.
She wondered what kind of parents raised this child.
Despite that, the little girl had opened up to her since beginning. A strange emotion materialized in Nellâs heart at the thought of this.
âYoung lady, you can tell that Lizzy really takes fancy on you. She doesnât normally warm up to strangers. Even back home, not many except a few closer relations were able to approach her but she immediately adores you since the first encounter. This shows that youâre fated for each other.â
The old lady spoke slowly, the smile on her face never faded away.
Nell returned the smile. She turned to Lizzy and played with the little girlâs hair gently.
âI agree that weâre fated to meet each other. I adore her very much as well.â
At the sound of that, Lizzy narrowed her eyes in delight, looking like a spoiled little kitten.
Nell might pass out from witnessing this overloaded cuteness!
The old lady was grinning from ear to ear. âWell, I donât even know your name after receiving your assistance twice!â
âNell Jennings. N-e-l-l.â
âOh, such a beautiful name. Miss Jennings, you look rather young. Do you have a boyfriend?â
Nell hesitated.
âIâm married.â
âHuh?â
The old lady appeared genuinely shocked but quickly smoothed away her surprise with a smile. âItâs understandable. Men must be running after an outstanding woman like you! I wonder whoâs the lucky man that calls you his wife.â
Nell did not intend to disclose much information about Gideon so she attempted a smile. âHeâs a great man, perhaps even too good for me.â
âNo way. I can tell from your graceful manners and fortunate appearance that it might be him thatâs not a good match to you.â
Nell laughed without commenting further.
Their food was served several moments later. Nell normally preferred silence during meals but the old lady was determined to keep the conversation going. She had no choice but to respond while eating simultaneously.
âMiss Jennings, your husband must treat his beautiful wife well! Are you two planning to have kids in the future?â
Nell almost choked on the rice that she was swallowing. She quickly took a few sips of water before replying. âWeâre not planning for that just yet.â
âI see!â
Perhaps Nell had the wrong impression but she thought she saw a hint of concern flashed across the old ladyâs face upon listening to her reply.
Feeling the awkwardness that lingered in the air, she changed the conversation topic immediately.
âOh right, are you visiting Jincheng alone with Lizzy? Are there any other family members or friends tagging along?â
She learned from Lizzy the last time that the little girl was touring Jincheng with her nana.
The old lady shook her head. âNope, just the two of us.â
Nell frowned subconsciously.
âPlease forgive me for saying this. Although I donât know who Lizzyâs father is, heâs indeed being rather careless for allowing an elder like you to travel with a little child. What if something bad happens during the trip?â
The old lady quickly explained with a smile.
âThatâs not going to happen because weâll be extra cautious. Besides, this world is filled with kind-hearted people. We can ask around for assistance if we really encounter problems. See, we met you, Miss Jennings, and youâre a kind person.â
Nell twitched her lips at the old ladyâs optimism but decided to not press further.
She had seen enough darkness in this world. However, she did not wish to comment on that in front of Lizzy.
The old lady sighed helplessly as if sensing what was on her mind.
âActually, I also wish her father would bring her out but heâs too occupied with work. This child really longs to have some fresh air so sheâs left with no better choice than her old lady.â
Nell flashed a smile and replied considerately, âThatâs very nice of you, but please take greater care next time. Lizzy is still young and things might get ugly if she encounters the wrong person when she gets lost again.â
The old lady nodded again and again. âI know. Thanks Miss Jennings for reminding me.â
Nell did not say anything else. All three of them devoured their meals in quietness.
The old lady offered to pay when they were done with the meal.
A flurry of emotions moved like a storm across her face when she failed to locate her wallet.
âOh no, I think I lost my wallet!â
Nell looked flustered too.
âAny idea when you lost it?â
The old lady shook her head.
All three of them returned to their seat previously to do a quick search but it was to no avail. The old lady who was ill at ease apologized. âIâm really sorry. I was thinking of thanking you with a meal but I lost my wallet. This is...â
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 139 Undeniable Fate âIt doesnât matter. Iâll take care of it.â
She quickly handed over the credit card to the cashier as she spoke.
âWould you like me to accompany you to file an official report? Your credentials must still be in the wallet! If thatâs the case, we better go and report a loss to prevent unnecessary troubles,â she questioned with concern.
The old lady waved her hands dismissively in the air.
âItâs alright because I only have some small change in there. I left the credentials at the hotel! Thereâs no need to file a police report since I didnât lose anything important.â
Nell did not insist after that but only nodded silently.
âItâs getting late. Let me drop you off at the hotel.â
âAlright. Sorry for the inconvenience, Miss Jennings.â
Nell got behind the wheel and sent the old and the young back to their hotel.
She was shocked to discover they were staying in Jinchengâs most luxurious five-star hotel.
The old lady mentioned earlier that Lizzyâs father was too involved with work that he did not have time to travel with the child. She also remembered that Lizzy did not have a mother.
Connecting the dots, she instinctively concluded that the other person must struggle to make a living. However, looking at the hotel these two were staying for their trip, she thought she might have made the wrong judgment.
Anyway, she did not think too much about it. The old and the young were out traveling by themselves after all, thus it was normal that their safety was of utmost priority. Staying at a prestigious hotel did not sound too strange on second thought.
Nell walked with them into the hotel. However, she was unexpectedly stopped by one of the hotel staff just as she walked past the entrance.
