Chapter 151

Spoiled by the President

Tim was in shock!

She was the one!

She was the one, the one, the one!

Those eyes, that presence, they had a natural severity and imperiousness.

This was the female lead he was looking for in the flesh!

The lifeless man a second ago was suddenly hyped up back to life.

Overjoyed, he grabbed the laptop and twirled around the room. With his eyes fixated on the screen, he could leap in joy.

The video was not long and soon came the end of the broadcast.

Tim immediately called Gareth to ask who was the person in his computer.

In a daze by the phone call, Gareth asked, “Who is what in my computer?”

Tim impatiently explained, “The one who played a female general.”

All the more Gareth was at a loss. He did not recall anyone on his computer in the role of a female general.

The only who played a female general was Janet.

Tim already knew Janet. Why would he call him to ask?

Gareth’s mind went blank for a while until a thought struck him. With something in mind, he enquired hastily, “Are you watching a video of an audition?”

Tim was quick to answer, “Yes, that’s the one! Who is the woman playing the female general? I want to look for her.”

Gareth’s expression revealed his incapability to find the words to respond to Tim.

After an extended period of time, he gulped and answered in a dilemma, “Oh, Coombster. To be frank, I think it’s best you give up if you have eyes on her. It’s impossible.”

Taken aback, Tim frowned and asked in bafflement, “Why is it impossible? I’ve never seen her before in the entertainment business. She must be a newbie, right? Don’t worry, I can guarantee she’ll be a hit if I get my hands on her. She makes a perfect fit for acting. She’s born to be an actress.”

The excited voice on the other end of the line had Gareth scoffing in mockery.

“You’ve only seen the video. You haven’t even met her yet! Don’t be so quick to boast, aren’t you afraid you’ll end up swallowing your words?”

Truth be told, Gareth was feeling jealous inside as he said those words.

To think that he once sought after Nell to act in his film but was merciless rejected. Look what happened now.

A star would always be a star, shining wherever she went.

With a glint in his eyes, he was hit with a wicked idea. He snickered.

“Oh, Coombster, are you that interested in her? Okay, let me tell you. She’s Nell Jennings, currently the director of the public relations department in Anning International. She’s not an actress but if you’re able to persuade her to play this part, I’ll get down on my knees and call you dad!

“However, if you can’t do it, you’ll have to comply with my wishes. I’ll have the final say in who gets the part. What do you think? Would you dare make a bet with me?’

It was not as though Tim was going to sit down and take that provoking tone of voice.

He scoffed. “You think I won’t? Let’s do it!”

Seeing that Tim took the bait, Gareth chuckled in delight. “Alright, then it’s settled. Don’t go back on your words now!”

Tim heavily snorted. Without replying, he terminated the call.

The next day, Nell had just arrived in the office when her assistant told her someone was here for her.

She was surprised. It was only half past eight in the morning and those in the entertainment circle were mostly nocturnal creatures. No one would usually be looking for her during this period of time.

She wondered who would arrive this early in the morning.

Curious, she took strides towards the guest reception.

The moment she entered the room, a stubby middle-aged man wearing a gray checkered suit sat there plain in sight. The man was thin in figure and his back was slightly stooped.

This led to Nell assuming he was of age at first glance. Only when they came face to face did she realize the man was in his early thirties.

It caught Nell unawares. Having no memory of this person, she heightened her alertness as she asked, “Hello, I’m Nell Jennings. I heard that you were looking for me?”

Before coming over, Tim had already worked out a draft in his mind. However, he was still left tongue-tied no matter how much he prepared himself when he laid his eyes on the actual person.

Alike!

Too much alike!

She was exactly the same as the image he had in his head — politeness amid detachment yet with a hint of overbearingness within manners.

Those eyes, in particular, was a work of art. They were the window to the soul. Even without acting, merely standing there gave an illusion of countless emotions running past her eyes.

Tim quickly stood up and bashfully rubbed his hands together. He kept a sharp gaze on Nell as though he could not move away.

The imposing gaze put Nell in a spot, to the point of disgust.

Nell turned to instruct the assistant to leave the room before taking a seat on a chair. She enquired, “Let’s get straight to the point. I have a meeting later so you have 20 minutes.”

She made it a point by looking at her watch.

It was not as though Nell wanted to seem unreasonable but the eyes of this person was simply too eager and somehow deranged as well. She was feeling rather uncomfortable.

Tim nodded. His face squeezed a passionate smile that really did not suit him as he reached out his hand to Nell.

“Hello, I’m Tim Coombs, a director.”

Nell was dumbfounded.

Tim Coombs?

She suddenly came to realization. Oh! Right! The script!

Nell had seen the name last night. Tim Coombs was the main director and playwright of “Cannon Fodder Guide’.

She was thinking what kind of a person was able to write such a bizarre yet fascinating script!

With a surprised look on her face, Nell extended her arm to shake hands with him.

Amid her bewildered gaze, Tim hastily rubbed his hands and replied, “It’s like this. I hope you don’t mind that I came abruptly. I saw a video of your performance on my friend’s computer by chance and thought that you really fit in with the female lead role in my new series. I’m here to seek your opinion.

“I wonder if you’re interested to advance in the acting career path?”

He bore a serious look, with no intention of joking around. His tone was especially sincere.

Nell was at a loss by his question. Snapping back to reality a brief moment later, she was caught between a contrast of emotions.

“Is the friend you were referring to, Director Leith?”

Tim quickly nodded.

He did not forget to leave Gareth out of it. “I only saw it on his computer by chance. He did not disclose the video intentionally.”

Nell waved her arm without a care and smiled. “Since you’re a friend of Director Leith, I’ll get straight to the point. I’ve seen your script and I must say, it’s really fascinating. I love it. If you did not come to meet me today, I’d have found time to look for you.”
