Chapter 164
Spoiled by the President
After lunch, the two of them parted with the owner and his wife and walked out together.
It was already 4:00 p.m. and the ownerâs wife told them that there was a night market ahead which would open at 5:00 p.m. It would be a lively and merry scene then, so the two of them decided to take a stroll.
Gideon had never visited a night market before in his life, so he was rather curious.
Besides, when he saw Nellâs excited look, it piqued his interest more so they walked side by side toward the night market.
Some passersby riding tandem bicycles went past them along the way. Nell saw it and she cried for a try.
Gideon had to walk to the bike rental along the road to rent one. However, after he pushed the bicycle out, he awkwardly realized he did not know how to ride one.
Nell chuckled before breaking into laughter.
Who would have thought that Mr. President could not ride a bicycle?
Gideon looked rather grumpy. He grew up in a wealthy background and of course, he had the highest class cars to drive him around. Why would he even learn to ride a lousy bicycle?
Nell saw the grumpy look on him so she quickly held her laughter back.
She told him to take the rear seat while she steered at the front. All Gideon had to do was pedal along with the motion.
Gideon reluctantly got on the rear seat and Nell stepped on the pedal after saying, âLetâs GO!â
The two of them rode the bicycle on the road and as the wind blew, the girlâs hair waved along and fluttered in front of the boyâs face. The fragrance from her hair was sweet and intoxicating.
Gideon was deeply affected by Nellâs pureness and he felt carefree.
Ever since Nell graduated from junior high, she had never ridden a bike before. Fortunately, after all those years of not touching a bike, she still maintained her skill in cycling and she was happy about it.
As she rode the bike, she started to hum a melody that she had learned during her school days.
Her humming was loud and soft, on and off at times because she was carrying someone on the bike and it demanded more strength from her.
Therefore, compared to her usual humming or singing, she was not performing well at all.
Fortunately, Nellâs voice was already sweet and pleasant, so despite the hiccups, it sounded decent.
Gideon listened for a while before asking, âWhat are you humming?â
âBallade pour Adeline. Have you not heard of it before?â Nell asked.
âWhat? You hummed Ballade pour Adeline like that and you dare to say youâve heard of it before?â
Gideon was speechless.
Since Gideon kept quiet, Nell took the opportunity and explained, âThis instrumental is originally named the Song for Adeline and itâs composed by the famous musician Richard Clayderman. He even received the Golden Piano Award for this...â
Gideon looked slightly grumpy. He interrupted. âI know.â
Nell exclaimed and shrugged, âI forgot you played the piano quite well.â
The two of them rode the bike to the night market that the lady owner, Sister René, had mentioned.
The night market had just been opened so many stalls had not even displayed their goods. Nell dragged Gideon to a high-rated dessert shop for ice cream while waiting for the night market to fully open.
The shop was playing calm and casual music and the Turkish owner was teasing visitors at the entrance with his signature Turkish ice cream.
Nell quickly got bored after she finished her ice cream, yet she did not want to walk the night market while it was still in the preparation stage, so she walked to the entrance and watched the Turkish ownerâs play.
The Turkish owner saw her and asked her whether she wanted to give it a try.
Nell hesitated but the owner encouraged her to try. She took the stick and the cone and started learning how to make Turkish ice cream.
She knew how to garnish a cake with cream and learning how to make Turkish ice cream felt more or less the same. The owner was also patient with teaching, so she was able to master it in a short while.
Nell bought the ice cream that she had made and ran back to Gideon. She said, âHere, for you.â
Gideon raised a brow. He looked at the ugly-looking ice cream in doubt. He might have taken it with his hands but he did not hold back his comments at all. âThis looks... Not appetizing at all. Are you sure you made this?â
Nell nodded. âOf course! If you donât like it, give it back.â
She wanted to take the ice cream back but the man would not let her. He quickly chomped half of the ice cream away and coldly grunted, âItâs mine now. Thereâs no way Iâm giving you back.â
Nell giggled when she saw Gideon eating the ice cream despite saying it was ugly.
She then walked to the entrance without being calculative with him.
The lights along the street were already lit and the night market was fully opened.
It was really as Sister René had said - the night market was lively and merry. Not only tourists but many locals were here as well.
Nell dragged Gideon out of the shop for sightseeing. The man was like her follower, following her wherever she went with tightly furrowed brows.
She noticed his disgust at the dirty environment therefore she ditched him and ran forward alone.
Gideon was worried about her safety, so he endured the disgust and went after her.
âHow much is this?â
When Gideon chased up to her, he saw Nell squatting in front of a stall, putting a silver ring on her finger.
âThis one? 200.â
â200?! Itâs expensive!â
âItâs really not that expensive. This isnât just silver-plated but filled with silver. Did you see the red braids around it? I made them myself and had them blessed at Mazu Temple. Itâll bless you with longevity.â
Nell smiled. âIf what you said is true, Iâll take one more. Can I get two for 200? If itâs okay with you, Iâll take them.â
â200 for two? No way, Iâm losing money here!â
âIâll add another 20. Take it or leave it.â

âMy, my, young lady here sure knows how to bargain. Iâm not earning anything if I sell you 120 each.â
âCome on. Youâre the best stall owner here. Sell them to me.â Nell then took money out from her pocket and gave it to the owner.
The owner sighed and took the money. âOkay fine. Iâm selling you at this price because youâre pretty.â
The owner then took another ring, which was the menâs counterpart of the ring Nell had taken, from his bag behind him and gave it to her.
Nell smiled as if she had hit the jackpot. She thanked the owner and wanted to leave with the rings.
The owner noticed she was generous in paying, so he held her back and tried to make another deal. âMiss, are you interested in some earrings?
Look at this pair. Theyâre also blessed by Mazu.â
Nell shook her head because the earrings looked old-fashioned. âNo thanks, Iâll just take these rings.â
She then returned to Gideon and put the menâs ring on his middle finger.
Gideon frowned in slight disgust. He wanted to take it off but Nell stopped him.
âDonât take it off. Mazu has blessed this ring so itâll bless you with longevity.â
Gideon despised the ownerâs dirty tactics and also Nellâs simple intellect. âAnd you believed him?â
âOf course. Why not?â
Nell then walked to another stall and looked at the handmade masks. She said casually, âIf itâs good, why not? Even if itâs not real, at least I can buy myself some blessings. Am I right?â
