Chapter 166

Spoiled by the President

Gideon glanced at her coldly.

Nell continued ridiculing. “I’m telling you now, don’t you dare leave me in the next few days. The ladies might snatch you away if you’re not around me. Follow me and I’ll protect you like a little baby, hahaha!”

She burst into laughter after that but Gideon reacted stiffly.

He was a little helpless. Who would have thought that the president of Leith Corporation would be ridiculed like this?

Yet he was unable to utter a single word.

In the end, he helplessly flicked his finger at the back of Nell’s head. “I really don’t know what to do with you. Come on, let’s go. We still have to climb Mt. Herma after lunch.”

The two of them made their way back to the manor.

In the afternoon, Gideon was cooking in the kitchen and Nell automatically offered a helping hand by washing the vegetables, plates or whatnot. The two of them looked like a young loving couple when working together.

After the vegetables were cleaned, Nell had nothing else to do, so she brought a stool and sat in front of the kitchen to watch her man cook.

She realized as long as the man had good looks, he would look good no matter what he did. It included even if he was cooking in an apron and with messy hair, the valiantness on him felt like it came from within.

He looked like he was at ease, his hands moved skillfully and the spatula in his hand no longer felt like a cooking utensil. It was like a mystical weapon that could fight spirits and demons.

The wok did not feel like a wok either. It felt like an artifact that he used to command the cooking. His hands moved simultaneously, controlling every aspect of the dish in a fierce and powerful manner as if he was an unrivaled genius in cooking.

Nell curled her lips into a soft grin. She was fantasizing about her man commanding the world in her mind before she heard a loud bang.

The bang frightened Nell. She bolted up from the stool and saw Gideon nervously covering the lid over the wok. The meat inside was sizzling loudly.

Nell looked at him deeply and saw him heaved a sigh of relief.

“Great. I’m thinking too much.’

The truth was, Gideon barely cooked but he stubbornly used his strong common sense and logical thinking to weather through the cooking.

Lunch might not look appetizing but the taste was acceptable. After lunch, the two of them packed their things and headed out to Mt. Herma.

Mt. Herma was an hour’s drive away from their manor. The two of them got into a taxi and arrived at the mountain foot after an hour.

The mountain was a famous tourist spot for tourists from all around the world. Nell and Gideon climbed the mountain.

It was a little past noon, the sun was bright and since the mountain was nearby the sea, a pleasant sea breeze was blowing constantly.

It was already 4:00 p.m. when they were halfway up the mountain. Gideon constantly worked out and exercised, so the climb was not that harsh for him. On the other hand, Nell was breathing heavily and was exhausted.

“Can you still move?” Gideon held her hand and took a bottle of water from his bag for her.

Nell took it and quickly drank some water. She nodded and said, “I can make it.”

She was determined to reach the peak. She would not allow herself to stop halfway and become a joke to others.

Nell held her breath and mustered her strength to continue climbing. Gideon followed behind her so that he could catch her if she fell and he did not want her to notice the ridiculing gaze in his eyes.

“Huh? What’s that there?” Nell straightened her body and pointed at a bloody red tree.

Many tourists were also heading over to the tree. Gideon observed for a while before he said, “I don’t know but it seems like someone is preaching..”

Nell’s interest was piqued. “Come on, let’s go have a look.”

The two of them walked over and found a little pond.

Behind the pond was a large banyan tree covered with red wooden tablets. Sitting under the tree was a little monk around 20 years old. He was wearing a shabby kasaya and sitting with his legs crossed. He seemed to be praying and meditating on the spot.

Nell did not understand the situation so he asked Gideon, “What is he doing?”

“Cultivating,” said Gideon.

“Cultivating?” Nell looked rather surprised. Gideon saw the confusion in her so he continued to explain.

“They are apostle monks. The Buddhism culture here is a lot more prosperous and unlike Mahayana Buddhism back in Huaxia, Theravada Buddhism is much more popular here. It teaches one to train the body, so many people became a monk at a very young age. With a sincere heart seeking for Buddha’s teachings, they tread the nation with their feet and no matter the weather, they’ll never stop. They live the apostolic way and hoped that they could transcend one day.”

Nell was stunned for a moment before realizing the situation.

She asked, “Then, what’s with the red tablets?”

Gideon frowned. “I don’t know. Maybe the people around this area saw monks cultivating here and they tied those red tablets on the tree, seeking for protection and peace. Can you see the dirt around the monk’s seat? The dirt underneath his seat is wet and slightly caved in while the other parts are dry. He must be meditating here for days now.”

“Days? What about sleep or eat?”

Gideon shook his head. “I don’t know a lot about the apostle monks, so I can’t tell you any more details.”

Nell smiled and flattered him. “You’re more knowledgeable than me even if you say you know only a little. I’ll give you a big thumbs up!”

Gideon shook his head helplessly at Nell’s flatteries. The two of them continued climbing the mountain.

They finally reached the peak when the sky was completely dark.

Nell was so tired that she did not want to move a finger. Gideon dragged her to a restaurant at the peak for dinner and only after dinner, she recovered a little of her strength.

“Sir, madam, do you want to buy a love lock? Come outside and lock the love lock together!”

It was then an white-haired lady walked over with all kinds of locks in various sizes and shapes. She was promoting the so-called heartlocks to them.

Curious, Nell asked, “Love lock? What’s that?”

“Write your name on it and lock it at the Fated Bridge outside and you and your loved one will grow old together and never be apart from each other.”

Nell’s eyes gleamed.

She turned around and asked Gideon, “Why don’t we get one?”

Gideon nodded. Nell then took one of the locks from the old lady and asked, “How much is this?”

Gideon paid her 100 and told her to keep the change.

The old lady was delighted and grateful. She even gave them an extra lock which was known as the Hundred Children Lock. It was said that whoever locked the Hundred Children Lock on the Fated Bridge would have many children in the future.

The two of them happily accepted the extra gift. After they paid for dinner, they followed the old lady outside to the Fated Bridge.

After traveling for half a kilometer, they finally saw a hanging bridge under a dried-up waterfall.

The bridge looked ancient. There were a plethora of love locks of different shapes and sizes on it. Nell ran over there and saw the names and sweet talks written on all the love locks.

“I see. You can even write something like this? This is interesting!”

Gideon slightly pouted. He walked over and asked, “Where do you want to hang this?”

Nell pointed at a spot. “Here! It’s a little less crowded here so it’ll last longer this way.”

Gideon then took out a pen from his pocket and wrote both their names on the love lock.
