Chapter 176

Spoiled by the President

Old Madam Quinton only came and took Lizzy away when it was time to get a move on.

The little child was broken-hearted to leave and truthfully, the same sentiment was shared by Nell.

To her surprise, Lizzy suddenly tugged on her sleeve. Blinking those wide eyes, Lizzy exclaimed, “Mommy, Nana said that you and daddy are going to give me a baby brother, is that true?”

Nell, “??”

The old madam froze.

Even Gideon who was standing aside stopped what he was doing and stared at her dumbfoundedly.

It was as though time had come to a screeching halt!

Lizzy was in a daze and only realized a few seconds later that she spilled the beans!

Gasping in horror, her meaty arms quickly hung over her little mouth.

Those dewy eyes blinked as they fixated on Nell rather pitifully.

“Sob sob sob... Mommy, I didn’t do it on purpose!

“I didn’t want to lie to you. I just want to be with you!

“Nana said you won’t leave daddy and will be together with me forever with a little brother on the way!

“Sob sob sob... I was wrong!”

Nell turned her gaze to Gideon.

With a complicated look on his handsome face, the man was twitching at the corner of his lips, hoping there was a hole in the ground where he could bury himself in.

Meanwhile, Old Madam Quinton on the opposite side, having snapped back to reality, chuckled awkwardly.

“This... This... How should I put this...”

For a moment of awkwardness, the old madam could not find the words to explain herself. She may have come across great upheavals in her lifetime, yet remained at a loss in this trivial matter.

Nell burst into laughter.

“Here I am, thinking how my encounter with Lizzy was a work of fate! It was love at first sight for me with this little girl. She kept insisting I’m her mommy. So we’re, in fact, a family. I guess my intuition is pretty accurate.”

Everyone was blown away.

Nell did not bring up the fact that they kept their identity from her, nor anything of that matter. Moreover, she showed no signs of anger.

Instead, she made light of the situation, brushing off the intense atmosphere.

How-How...

Considerate!

The old madam was almost moved to tears. With red eyes, she advanced forth and grabbed Nell by the hand as she choked up. “Nelly, I’m sorry. I...”

“I understand.” Nell smiled and patted the old lady’s hands over hers as an act of comfort.

“The greatest love is the one that parents have for their children. Of course, they always have their children’s future in their mind. You wanted to know what kind of woman your grandson married out of concern. Although the way of doing it may not be right, the intention was there. I can understand.”

Touched beyond words, the old madam bawled her eyes out.

“I knew it. Our Nelly has great empathy.”

Nell let out a faint smile without saying a word.

She turned her attention to Lizzy and crouched down.

Knowing she was at fault, Lizzy covered her face with her hands in a fret.

Nell could not hold back her laughter as she reached out to pull away the meaty hands from Lizzy’s face. She smiled. “Don’t cover this beautiful little face. It’s not going to look as pretty with handprints over it!”

Peeking between her fingers, Lizzy cautiously met her gaze and asked, “Mommy, are you not angry?”

Nell shook her head. “I’m not.”

“I told a lie. I’m bad!”

“Oh, you’re a good girl. Just don’t do it again the next time and you’ll be fine.”

“Really? Mommy won’t be angry if I mend my ways?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

With Nell solemnly nodding, Lizzy jumped for joy and put down her hands to prance into Nell’s embrace.

“Sob sob sob... Mommy, I really miss you. I finally have a mommy.”

The soft little body in her arms just melted Nell’s heart.

Even the stabbing uneasiness seemed to diminish a fair lot as well.

She smiled and gently patted Lizzy in the back before lovingly answering, “Yes, Lizzy has a mommy now. Mommy will love you.”

Lizzy was overjoyed.

As time could not be delayed any longer, Gideon glanced at his watch and said, “We have to get to the airport now. Don’t stay out too late and have fun these two days.”

He added after a pause, “I’ll bring Nelly to the capital to visit a while later.”

Lizzy was unwilling to part with Nell but she was well-behaved. In the end, she sent them off at the airport before bidding a reluctant goodbye.

Prior to leaving, Nell kissed the child on the forehead and gifted her a jade pendant. It was an amulet she had on her since young. She had gotten wind that Lizzy was not in the best of health and wanted this charm to bring her good luck.

After saying their farewells, Nell boarded the plane.

The flight back was two and a half hours. Once boarded, Nell took a seat and closed her eyes, refusing any sort of interaction.

Her face was without a smile earlier. The stiff facial lines indicated her fury.

Perturbed, Gideon took a glance at her. He was all in a dither but knew he was in the wrong to begin with.

He should have put a stop to the old madam dragging Lizzy along in some monkey business, rather than leaving them be. Gideon had put himself in such a difficult situation either way.

With the plane taking off, all was quiet in the cabin. There was no racket, and even the occasional exchange of conversation was drowned in the cabin airflow.

Gideon was unsure whether she was asleep. He was feeling aggrieved by the situation, yet did not have the nerve to say or ask anything.

In the end, concerned she might catch a cold, he took off his jacket and put it over her.

To his surprise, the jacket was just laid down when the woman pushed it off and threw it aside.

Oh, so she was not asleep?

On edge, Gideon whispered, “Are you angry?”

Nell coldly scoffed without answering him.

Gideon explained with grievance, “I wanted to let you know but I didn’t want to embarrass the old madam blatantly. Secondly, I was hoping she would explain to you in private. It would be better that way. Who knew Lizzy lay it all bare today? Nelly, I didn’t mean it.”

Nell finally opened her eyes and smirked at him.

“So, this is the reason you kept it from me?”

Gideon adopted a stern countenance and replied in a gruff voice, “No.”

“What are you trying to make clear of here?”

“I...”

He was at a loss of words.

The great President Leith had never in his life, meekly pleaded with anyone. Sure, he was ready to get down on his knees and beg but was stumped for words.

At last, he became annoyed with himself before solemnly declaring, “I’m sorry, I was wrong!”

Nell sneered.

“Ha!”

“Nelly, please forgive me!”

Turning away, Nell gave him the cold shoulder.

Gideon gazed at her while sticking out his fingers to pull her by the sleeve and gently giving it a shake.

“Wifey...”

Gasp!

Have you witnessed the Devil putting on a puppy dog face?

Almost attacked by goosebumps, Nell turned to glare at him. She ground her teeth under her breath. “Let go!”
