Chapter 189
Spoiled by the President
Nell took a glance at her and smiled.
âItâs not your fault. I didnât let you know when I went out. Additionally, even if you came with me last night, a picture of me visiting Tim at midnight would be snapped anyway. Thereâs really no difference to the outcome. Itâd still be the same headlines today.â
Nancy grew more anxious.
âWhat should we do? Why donât we tell Mr. Leith and let him clear up the matter?â
Nell shook her head.
âThereâs no need for that. I'll handle it myself.â
She did not want to depend on Gideon on every little thing. They made a pact that she would thrive in time to one day, stand alongside him.
If she could not handle a trivial matter like this, what right did she have to stand alongside him?
Nell engaged in her thoughts as she freshened up in the bathroom.
Nancy was sweating bullets by the calm look on Nellâs face.
âSurely, someone is the mastermind behind this elaborate plot. Even if weâre not involving Mr. Leith in this, we shouldnât just sit and wait!â
Nell was done cleansing her face and was wiping her face with a towel as she grinned. âOf course not.â
She paused before adding. âIâll need you to do something for me this afternoon.â
âWhat is that?â
âHelp me to...â
...
Nell freshened up, got ready, and ordered breakfast to the room to eat.
After doing this, she leisurely strolled to the set.
With the expose making headlines online, everyone on set had already found out.
The moment Nell walked into the set, all eyes were on her, albeit in a rather probing and strange manner. There were even a few, who believed the rumors online to be true, stared at her with a hint of contempt.
Fuming through the ear, Nancy glared back at them.
Nell kept her cool, acting as though she either was unaware of the incident or that the entire thing did not happen.
As always, she went to get her makeup done in the dressing room.
Celine came earlier than usual. By the time she entered the room, Celine was already sitting there.
She brought along her makeup artist and was having her hair braided. With Nell setting foot in, Celine mustered a fake smile.
âSister, youâre here? I thought youâll apply for leave today and wonât be coming over!â
To her surprise, Nell, who had given her the cold shoulder all along, responded to her.
She raised a brow. âWhy would I apply for leave?â
Celine expressed shock.
âSister, donât tell me you donât know yet?â
With that, Celine whipped out her phone and clicked on the trending topic for Nell to take a look.
âI saw it this morning. You donât know how worried I am for you. I was thinking of visiting you if you didnât show up later! I was unaware that you hadnât known!â
With downcast eyes, Nell swept a glance at her phone.
Ignoring the fleeting smug on Celineâs face, Nell smiled.
âOh, youâre talking about this. I know about this. Whatâs wrong?â
The onlookers widened their eyes in surprise.
How could she still keep her shirt on after finding out?
Was she unconcerned or pretended not to care?
Seemingly in tune with their thoughts, Nell smiled faintly. âThereâs really no need to be surprised! Itâs their mouth so they can say whatever they want to and if I care about every little thing that was said about me, wouldnât that be a downer?â
Nellâs usual makeup artist was on good terms with her.
Taking a gulp, she whispered, âItâs going viral online, arenât you afraid it might affect your reputation?â
Nell sat up straight and took a brush to comb her hair before faintly answering, âTheyâre in the opinion that Iâve pulled strings from behind to get to where I am today so they wonât believe me regardless of what I say. Iâll just let my skills do the talking. Why should I put my attention elsewhere?â
The atmosphere was quiet for a moment.
By the corner of her eye, Nell peered at Celineâs grimacing face and grinned.
The way Celine and Sally saw it, Nell would surely flunk in her scenes as she had no experience in acting.
Needless to say, Celine would be able to get the one up on Nell through her theatrical competence.
It had never occurred to her that she would come on set to find Nell proficient in performance arts and great at it too.
She had tried her best to suppress Nell during their scene interactions but not only was she not able to stifle Nell in acting but the latter also seemed to have the upper hand.
Celine went ballistic.
She grew irritable as fury crept in and with irritability, came absent-mindedness. The distraction made her forget her lines.
Tim had thrown a few tantrums at her on set because of this.
There was rumor brewing on set, saying that an award-winning actress like her was no match to a newbie.
However, barely anyone had the guts to say it out loud with Celine being an A-list star after all. Most of them quietly discussed among themselves without making it known.
Even so, Celine still caught wind of the rumor.
She gnashed her teeth at that thought.
Gazing at Celineâs obscurely unsettled face, Nell smiled. âCome to think of it, I do find it strange about last night. I went to talk to Director Coombs about the script. Who knew someone would secretly snap a picture of us and put on the web?
âI wonder who thinks of me as an eyesore that theyâre out to get me? My good sister, do you have a clue?â
Celine was dumbstruck by the sudden question directed at her.
With Nell darting a sharp and cold look at her, she stammered while averting her gaze out of instinct.
A while later, she answered, âHow would I know? Maybe you stepped on someoneâs toes and now itâs payback?â
Nell raised a raise.
âOh? So, youâre saying that I was set up, huh?â
Celineâs heart stopped.
Realizing she was tricked, anger bottled up inside her.
âThatâs not what I said but as an actress, you couldâve chosen any other time to discuss the script. Why must it be at night?
âYou gave people the reason to talk about you and yet youâre blaming others for it. Thatâs rather foolish if you think about it.â
Nell coldly curled her lips.
âWhatâs wrong with being an actress? So, actresses are limited from going out at night? Itâs 2019 for heavenâs sake, why the backward thinking?
âI donât think thereâs a difference between sharing opinions of the script during the day or night, only whether it was a convenient time or not.
âAs to those who point their fingers, calling people out on indecency, I can only say â it takes one to know one.
âYouâll always assume that others are engaging in dirty business regardless of what they do if your mind is dirty. How can you expect a person to be fair and just if theyâre already prejudiced?â
It was silent in the dressing room.
The crossfire between the sisters left everyone gobsmacked and no one dared to utter a word.
Celine was taken aback by Nellâs sharp tongue. Was this the former tongue-tied Nell of a few words?
