Janet was about to lose her mind upon hearing Nell’s nonchalant reaction.

“Nelly! I don’t want to keep nagging but you’re not an amateur in this industry. Both of us know how terrifying public opinion can be. You can’t take these things lightly if you’ve decided to become a female actress.

These things could get out of control with just one slip of the mouth. When that happens, even your Mr. Leith might not be able to turn the tables around.

Nell smiled as those words warmed the cockles of her heart.

“Thanks, Jan. I know you care a lot about me but don’t get ahead of yourself.”

“You know nothing! Celine’s fans are enjoying their celebration but there’s still no news coming from your side. How can I not be anxious?”

After a moment of consideration, Nell said, “Actually, I don’t have to become an actress. I prefer security to the unstable life of celebrities. You know that.”

Janet was too upset to say anything.

“Why join acting if you don’t like being an actress?”

Nell smiled.

“Well, I did it simply because someone else wants to do that! Haven’t you heard? Walk ahead to destroy the path for others.”

Janet was speechless.

She suddenly realized that this friend of hers was not the same person that she used to know.

Janet felt slightly relieved after hearing that.

However, she could not help to enquire with concern. “So what are you planning to do? Do you need my help? Those people might not believe your explanation. You’ll be in deep trouble if Jason sides Celine too.

I’m more experienced in this industry and I don’t normally care for things like this so my words might be more reliable. I could be of help.”

Those words warmed Nell’s heart even more.

Her lips curled upward into a smile. “Don’t worry. I can take care of this myself.”

“Really?”

“Yup, really.”

The determination was audible in her voice. Janet finally felt reassured since she knew her friend would not lie.

After the conversation ended, Nell received a call from Thomas.

She smiled sarcastically.

“Hello, Uncle Morton.”

“Nelly? Sorry to disturb you at this hour. Were you about to go to sleep?”

She walked toward the window and gazed into the distant night sky with an indifferent expression on her face. “Not yet. What’s the matter?”

There was a hint of hesitance and embarrassment in his voice. “Well, I’m sure you’ve seen the rumors that went viral online?”

“Yup.”

“The Mortons are really sorry about that. I didn’t expect Celine to say those things to the media. Jason’s to be blamed for the things that went wrong between you two. I would like to apologize to you on his behalf.”

Nell laughed softly. “Uncle Morton, you’ve already done that one year ago and I’ve accepted your apology hence there’s no need for that today.”

Thomas laughed drily with embarrassment.

“Yes, yes! I know this rumor affects you greatly but don’t worry, I’ll punish that insensible rascal and make him apologize to you personally...”

Nell interrupted the man. “Uncle Morton, you don’t have to beat around the bush you know.”

There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone.

The quiet was filled with an awkwardness of being exposed.

Anyway, being in the business industry for the past several years made him tougher in facing these situations.

“I’ll be straightforward with you then.

I offered you three companies last time in exchange for your forgiveness. You’re a person of your words and you’ve done great in the past year even though both Jason and Celine have behaved poorly and offended you more than once. However, I hope you’ll let them off this time. I’ll try my best to fulfill all of your demands.”

Nell smiled coldly. “So Uncle Morton sees me as such a realistic gold-digger!”

Words caught in his throat.

He sighed.

“Not at all. I figure you’re a smart person who knows which decision would yield the best outcome for you.

When it comes to business, it would be better for both sides to make peace than to wear each other out. Nelly, it’s a shame that the Mortons have lost you as a daughter-in-law but please, I’m asking you personally to reconsider this.”

There was silence on the other end of the phone.

Just when Thomas thought she was going to reject his plea, the woman whispered her reply, “Deal.”

He was taken aback.

Nell smirked. “I can do as you say but I want all 10% of Celine’s stock from Jennings Corporation.”

Thomas widened his eyes.

“Um... I can’t take responsibility for Jennings Corporation.”

“The Jennings would be overjoyed to be related to Mortons by marriage! They could only be too eager to please you. Besides, 10% of stock ownership for Celine’s reputation sounds like a good deal to me.

Don’t you worry. As long as the stock has been transferred to under my name, I give you my word that I’ll never mention anything about our relationship nor ruin their marriage.”

Another long silence.

Nell stood there quietly as she patiently waited for a response.

Thomas finally broke the silence about half a minute later.

“Okay! It’s a deal. I’ll bring this up with them but I can’t guarantee success.”

The corners of Nell’s lips curled upward. “Then I shall thank you in advance.”

Nell turned around after ending the phone call, only to realize that Nancy was staring at her angrily from the couch.

She twitched her brows into a frown. “It’s getting late. Why’re you still here instead of sleeping in your room?”

Nancy replied, her voice laced with unconcealed annoyance, “Nelly, how can you demand that from him? Is there anything you want that Sir cannot get for you? Forget about 10% stock of Jennings Corporation, he could acquire the entire corporation for you in an instant if that’s what you wanted!

Why inconvenient yourself to cover up for that couple’s mistakes?”

A chuckle escaped Nell’s mouth.

She stepped forward to pinch Nancy’s cheeks playfully. “Silly, do you think Elder Sister Nelly is such an idiot? Celine cares a great deal about her reputation. Will I be that dumb to sacrifice myself for their happiness?”

Nancy’s eyes widened.

“Then why did you...”

Nell flashed a sarcastic smile.

“Because some people have never experienced failure before. I want them to see what it feels like to have the things they care about the most being taken away from them little by little!”
