Chapter 245

Spoiled by the President

Nell nodded.

“That doesn’t sound right.” The old madam frowned. “By right, she would’ve predicted something might happen to her with the other woman and her b*stard daughter moving in. There’s no way she would just leave a necklace for her daughter.”

“Grandma, what you’re trying to say is...”

“Look, if I’m your mother, I would know they’re not just coming for your father, but the family’s inheritance.

“If that’s the case, I’d transfer part of the inheritance to your name first. This way, if something happens to me, you won’t end up in a vulnerable position. Don’t you think so?”

Nell was in a daze.

It was not as though she never had her doubts but really, it was not worth pursuing this with her mother passing on.

Moreover, to her knowledge, many of the Morrison Corporation’s assets were already forcibly taken by Shaun and Sylvia even prior to her mother’s death.

Her mother, Cathy, was a woman of few desires and not one to fight back.

Hence, even as the mother and son combo grew a larger appetite over the years and changed Morrison Corporation to Jennings Corporation, she had never said a word.

It might be her misconception of hers Nell had always thought that her mother had something on her mind.

Sometimes, Cathy would unconsciously give Shaun a look as though she did him wrong.

This must be the reason why Shaun’s behavior was getting out of line.

With a frown, Nell fell deep into her thoughts.

As Gideon did not want to dwell too much in the past, he interrupted the conversation.

“Alright now. It’s time to eat. Let’s not talk about this. Come, Nelly. Try the Chinese mitten crab here.”

He shelled a crab and put it in Nell’s bowl.

Having collected her thoughts, Nell nodded.

On the opposite, Lizzy exclaimed, “Daddy, I want to eat the crab too.”

Gideon took a glance at her before scooping a small piece of crab roe in his bowl to give to her.

The little child was not having it when she saw that tiny piece of crab roe in her bowl.

Puffing her cheeks, she said in rage, “I don’t want it! I want Daddy to peel a huge crab for me. One as big as Mommy’s!”

Lizzy then pointed at Nell’s bowl.

Nell burst into laughter.

Gideon put on a menacing look.

“Aren’t you aware of your health? The doctor said that you can’t have too much food of cold nature. You’re allowed to eat this much today because I’m being nice while your mom is here. You can give it back to me if you don’t want it.”

He reached out to grab her bowl.

The little kiddo immediately snatched her bowl away.

With those clear eyes shrouded in dewiness, she pouted her lips, looking rather aggrieved.

“Bad Daddy, you take my crab. I don’t want to sit with you.”

She jumped down the stool and stormed toward Nell and took a seat beside her.

“Lizzy wants to sit with Mommy.”

She lifted her head and gave Nell an ingratiating smile.

As her heart melted, Nell caressed Lizzy’s head to console her.

She placed a piece of meat into Lizzy’s bowl and softly encouraged her. “Lizzy can’t eat crabs. Why don’t Lizzy have some braised pork? The braised pork is really delicious.”

Lizzy nodded and scooped the meat in her bowl to eat. She narrowed her eyes in satisfaction.

“Thank you, Mommy. The meat Mommy gave me is yummy.”

Gideon, “...”

Who was it that rather died than eat braised pork?

She had forgotten about her father once she had a mother!

A certain somebody was a little upset to see the warm atmosphere surrounding the mother and daughter.

There was some bitterness with a tad of jealousy.

The old lady was filled with joy. She was at first worried that Nell and Lizzy would not get along but by the looks of it, it was not a concern.

She did not know what was in Lizzy’s mind. For years, the old madam had made strenuous efforts to search for a good mother for her.

Yet, Lizzy was not fond of anyone, including the kind and virtuous young lady of the Garrett family. Lizzy barely accepted her existence, let alone approved of her.

It was like a sudden change of character when she encountered Nell. Old Madam Quinton had never seen her so well-behaved.

The old madam was relieved.

Nell asked out of curiosity, “I know Lizzy isn’t in the pink of health but I don’t have a clue. Is she sick or was she born with it?”

The question observed a change of mood among the few at the table.

Gideon remained unfazed while the old lady let out a sigh.

“It’s a long story. Lizzy is different from other children, she’s...”

Nell listened with rapt attention.

“She wasn’t born under usual circumstances, rather through a combination of a test tube and articulate womb. There were some issues back which led to the child’s poor health.”

Nell was surprised.

She had always thought that Lizzy was a memento between Gideon and a former girlfriend!

This was not the case. She was artificially acquired?

Nell might not have seen it with her own eyes but during her time abroad, she had heard from the news by chance about the artificial womb.

It was said that a certain medical genius had emulated the environment of a womb where a baby laid to replace the pain of women for future childbirth.

Who knew that it would work!

Nell looked toward Lizzy with sorry eyes.

Lizzy was already with a rough past and now she was without a mother!

Unless, the egg donor was considered the mother.

Nell was filled with regret for not treating Lizzy better.

The little kiddo was confused, unable to understand the sudden heavy atmosphere surrounding the adults.

Blinking her eyes, she gently tugged on Nell’s sleeve.

“Mommy, what are you talking about!”

Heartbroken, Nell leaned in for a hug before softly consoling her. “Nothing, Lizzy is such a good girl.”

Nestled in the warm embrace, the child remained still and obediently blinked at Nell.

She was not completely oblivious. Only, she was not crystal clear of the matter either.

For example, she was aware that they were talking about her birth and Nell had embraced her because she took pity on her.

Nonetheless, Lizzy did not think she was pitiful at all.

Daddy told her that she had a mommy. Her mommy was the best and the most beautiful woman in the world.

There were pictures of mommy on daddy’s computer. Thus, she was able to recognize Nell at the first glance.

Daddy even mentioned that she may be different from any regular child, but it was solely the method of birth in question.
