Chapter 252

Spoiled by the President

Looks of concern could be seen on Stephanie’s gentle face.

“Although you’re confident about this, it’s not foolproof. I’m only worried that if someone discovers you here, they will recriminate and say that you all are colluding.

The Leith family is extremely sensitive, and public opinions can be horrible. Unclear speeches can easily become extreme populism and exploited by others which will eventually act as a leverage to shift the dynamics of the entire Leith family."

Nell was silent for a while.

She looked down and after giving some thought, said suddenly, “You seem to be very concerned about the Leith family.”

Stephanie was stunned.

She could not keep up with Nell's thoughts.

It took her a moment to react and there was an unnatural look flashed across her face.

“Gideon and I grew up together, Grandma Leith and Aunt Leith treat me really well, of course, I don’t want to see anything bad happening to the Leith family.”

Nell nodded.

She thought of a short moment and suddenly asked again, “I heard that both of you were engaged? And apparently...in a relationship?”

Stephanie’s face turned red instantly when she heard that.

She was not bad-looking but was not considered gorgeous and her skin was as white as snow. So when she blushed and lowered her head, she appeared timid.

“Yes, we were in a relationship before.”

After a while, she quickly explained, “But don’t get me wrong. Although our relationship was very good, that was when we were young. Gideon and I broke up five years ago, and I don’t think there’ll be anything between us anymore.”

Nell nodded.

“Hmm, I know.”

Stephanie was stunned again.

Nell glanced at the sky and realized that it was late, so she said, “I’m going in now, are you still going to chill here?”

Stephanie forced a smile. “I’ll stay for a while.”

“Okay, the seaside breeze is quite chilly, you take care of your body and don’t stay out for too long.”

“I know, thanks for your concern.”

Nell did not reply. She just stood up and left.

Very quickly, news about both of them meeting in private was made known to Gideon.

At that moment, Nell had just finished her bath and as she walked out of the bathroom, she saw a man walking in with a stern face.

She was slightly worried. “What is it?”

“Stephanie looked for you?”

Nell reacted and laughed blankly. “Yes, why are you so nervous?”

“What did she say to you?”

Nell rolled her eyes.

Seeing the man’s nervousness, she felt a sudden disgust.

She thoughtfully said, “She said that you’re her ex-boyfriend and had a really good relationship. Although you’ve broken up, there may still be a chance in the future.”

Gideon was speechless.

Nell sighed.

“Sigh! Do you think that I’m snatching her love away?”

Gideon looked ferocious. “Nonsense! I have nothing to do with her and I have never dated her, it was only the family elders’ wishful thinking.”

Nell shook her head, “Gideon, a man cannot be so irresponsible, she has already assumed that you’re her boyfriend but you say that you’ve never dated her, why does this make me feel you’re a scumbag?”

She even patted his shoulder.

“Don’t you worry, I’m a very generous person. I’m not going to be calculative about what happened five years ago so you can be honest with me.”

Gideon was angry until it hurt.

“I’ve already said what I had to, don’t change the topic. Besides this, what else did Stephanie say to you?”

Nell’s face froze.

She smiled awkwardly. “What else can there be between two women? it’s always about the same thing.”

“Are you sure?”

Nell looked uncomfortable.

To be honest, although she planned it well, the Leith family was not taken into consideration.

Although she and Gideon had been together for a while now, she had always intended to stay away from the capital’s conflict.

As if aware of what she meant, Gideon did not usually say this in front of her. Therefore, she did not know much about the Leith family in the capital.

It was also because of that she did not consider how it would affect the Leith family.

This time, it was her negligence.

Nell felt a pang of slight guilt in her heart. If Gideon was affected because of her, she would regret it for life.

After all, although revenge was important, the safety of people around her was more important.

As though aware of her thoughts, Gideon let out a sigh.

He held her hand in his and said, “Don’t listen to her nonsense and don’t overthink. I’m your husband. If I don’t have this ability, how could I protect you?”

Nell was slightly startled and lifted her head.

Under the light, the man’s face was calm but his gaze was earnest.

“I allow you to do things the way you want but never hide it from me and don’t decide otherwise for fear of affecting me.”

“But the Leith family...”

“Nothing’s going to happen to the Leith family.”

“Stephanie said that someone is targeting the Leith family? If something goes wrong this time, what should the Leith family do?”

Gideon chuckled.

In those gentle and warm glances, there was a faint cold flash.

“Do you not have faith in your man? If I couldn’t handle such a small issue, the Leith family would have collapsed long ago!”

He touched her head after saying that.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be here no matter what. Nothing’s going to happen, just carry out what you need to.”

Nell looked at him for a long while and nodded.

“Thank you, Gideon Leith.”

The man revealed an evil smirk.

“Do you want to thank me differently?”

Nell looked at him and knew what he wanted.

She stared viciously at him. “Don’t even think about it! Grandma and Lizzy are here. They might barge in anytime, in case they bump into...”

Gideon looked aggrieved.

“My dear, I only want a kiss. What were you thinking about? Could it be...”

Nell was stunned.

Only then she realized she was fooled by this man.

“Gideon, you bastard!”

...

It was 3 in the wee hours of the morning.

Celine Jennings who was asleep in the police station was awoken by some noise.

She opened her eyes and faintly saw a shadow walk out quickly while the door which was closed was now ajar. There was also a mobile phone and a set of keys beside her bed.

She was suddenly jolted awake.

It was quiet outside as though everyone had been told to leave. She contemplated for a few seconds, then she took the mobile phone and keys, and walked out.

However, there was no one by the corridor or outside, only a security guard who was dozing off in the security room.

She could not help breaking out into a cold sweat but after hesitating for a while, she ran out with the mobile phone and keys in her hand.
