Chapter 279
Spoiled by the President
Nell told Cherry to notify Justin about the result, and naturally, he was unhappy to hear it.
However, there was nothing he could do. Fortunately, the contract he had signed with Anning International was only for five years, and there was less than one year left. He could consider this a cooldown period and choose where to go when the contract expired.
Nell considered this case closed.
As for his relationship with Stephanie Garrett, it was not something she had to worry about.
In the blink of an eye, a week passed.
Janetâs birthday was coming up. Nell counted with her fingers, but no matter how much she tried, she found that she could not go over to accompany her in person.
It seemed like Janet had cut off contact from everything in China ever since she had left the country, except for occasional contact with Nell.
This included Ethan Hancock and her own brother, Ulric Hancock.
As a bystander, Nell could not say much and could only care about her as much as possible, since she was pregnant and would inevitably feel lonely in a foreign country by herself.
On Janetâs birthday, Nell watched the time and called her the moment the clock struck twelve.
The call quickly connected, and Janetâs happy voice said, âNelly!â
âHappy birthday, my dear.â
âThank you.â
Hearing how happy Janet was, Nell also could not help but be infected by her laughter. âMiss Hancock, be honest. Did you miss me at all during this time?â
âTsk, of course I did. I think of you day and night, wondering when youâll come to visit me.â
âDonât worry, in another half a month when my godson is born, his godfather and godmother will come together.â
âWhat if she ends up as a goddaughter instead?â
âThatâs even better. She can be friends with Lizzy, and the elder sister can take care of her younger sister. How perfect does that sound?â
Janet clicked her tongue and shook her head. âI donât know how you managed to get so lucky at being a mom. To be honest, itâs really hard to conceive a child. You wonât be able to understand the hardship.â
The smile on Nellâs face gradually faded.
âAre you alright there by yourself? Should I come over?â
Janet quickly refused.
âIâm fine. I hired a maid, so itâs okay.â
Nell sighed.
She hesitated several times but could not bring herself to say the words in her heart.
Janet had probably guessed what she wanted to say and laughed. âNelly, donât worry about me. Although Iâm not that strong, Iâm still stronger than you think. I got this.â
Nell could only nod. After thinking about it, she told Janet about the gossip she had heard during this time.
âDo you still remember your idol, Liam Jackson?â
âYeah? Whatâs wrong?â
âI just found out that he was in a relationship with Tara from the Garrett family. If we knew about this earlier, I wouldnât have let you worship him as an idol back then.â
On the other side, Janetâs back stiffened.
The fingers that were squeezing the phone trembled slightly.
After a moment, she forced a smile.
âIs that true? Iâve never heard about that.â
âYeah, if not for the time when Gideon and I were dragged to a bar for a drink by Elijah Davis and I accidentally found out that he liked Tara Garrett, I wouldnât have known about this either.â
Janet remained silent.
Nell looked around and asked tentatively, âJan, this child... has nothing to do with Liam Jackman, right?â
âWhat are you thinking about? Of course it doesnât.â
âThatâs good.â
Nell used a relieved tone and patted her chest.
However, Janet did not seem to want to talk about this topic anymore, so she changed the subject. âHave you been back to Jincheng recently?â
âNo, why?â
âItâs nothing much. I just wanted to ask how my dad and brother are doing.â
Nell thought for a moment before saying, âYour brother and your sister-in-law are fine. I heard that your father was unwell awhile ago, but it shouldnât be a big problem. Jan, no feud between a father and daughter should last more than a night. If you really care about him, try to talk to him, okay?
âThe child is already so big and it wonât be long until the baby turns one month old. Itâs too late to change anything now. At most, heâll just be angry at you and heâll forgive you in the end. Why do you have to go so far? Youâre still family, so why do you have to cut off from each other?â
Janet was silent for a moment before she said softly, âAlright, Iâll think about it.â
Nell nodded. The two chatted for a little while longer until someone knocked on Janetâs door.
âDo you have a guest?â Nell asked.
Janet frowned.
The place she lived in was an upscale apartment. She usually lived in seclusion and rarely had guests.
Furthermore, she did not have many friends here, so she could not figure out who would come over at this late hour.
After thinking about it, she said into the phone, âYeah, it should be the landlord or the Filipino maid Iâve hired. She just went out to buy food and hasnât come back yet. I guess she mustâve forgotten her keys. Iâll go out and have a look.â
âOkay, then Iâll hang up first. Take care.â
âI will.â
After hanging up the phone, Janet headed for the door.
When she reached the door, she looked through the peephole and was suddenly shocked.
She instantly straightened up and her face paled.
Then, she turned around and quickly walked into the house.
Her steps were extremely fast. She quickly entered the bedroom and locked the door.
She walked back and forth restlessly, feeling as if a drum had been placed where her heart was, beating rapidly and intensely. She felt that her heart was about to leap out of her throat.
How could it be him?
What was he doing here?
No, impossible!
She must have seen wrong. Yes, it must have been a mistake.
Janet gulped. Then, she suddenly laughed as if she had remembered something.
What was she so anxious about?
So what if he came?
It was impossible to take back what was said, and...
Her heart suddenly clenched as her eyes swelled.
She sat on the bed, dazed, until suddenly, there was a click outside followed by a loud bang.
It was the sound of the door being knocked down.
Janet was shocked. She quickly stood up from the bed and floundered for two seconds before running outside in a hurry.
As soon as she entered the living room, she saw the door of her house on the ground, broken after being pried.

Janet was speechless.
She stared at him with wide eyes filled with anger. âLiam Jackson! Who permitted you to pry open my door?â
This was the house she had bloody rented!
If someone saw this, how was she supposed to explain it to the landlord?
Money aside, what was more important was... It would not be a good thing if he was seen.
Looking at the door panel that had fallen to the ground, Janet grew completely furious.
However, Liam walked in with a blank expression as if he could not see the anger on her face.
After glancing at her and seeing her belly that was as big as a basket, his expression became even darker.
âSince youâre home, why didnât you open the door?â
