Chapter 31
Spoiled by the President
Nell seemed to have heard a joke.
She looked at Jason sarcastically. âAre you saying that theyâre the only ones in the wrong? Youâre not included?â
Jason stiffened slightly.
He took a deep breath and explained. âI didnât know you were drugged last night. I did realize that something was wrong with you, but my thoughts didnât go in that direction. At that time, I was going to help you, but Celineâs stomach suddenly hurt. I couldnât just ignore her.â
Nell raised an eyebrow. âAnd? Did she lose her baby?â
Jason paused for a moment before answering, âNo.â
âSince she didnât, why would her stomach suddenly hurt for no good reason? Besides, she looked just fine earlier. There doesnât seem to be any signs of miscarriage!â
Jasonâs expression grew slightly cold.
âWhat are you implying?â
Nell laughed absently. âNothing much. I was just thinking that if such poor acting skills were enough to fool you, then it seems that Iâve really overestimated you in the past!â
âNell!â
What Jason could not stand most was the way Nell looked down on him.
It reminded him of... Of...
His expression darkened and he gritted out, âCould you stop saying such unpleasant things? Celine is your younger sister. If you hate her so much, then you donât have to see her in the future, but why do you have to curse her so viciously? You were never like this before!â
Nellâs face also grew cold.
She sneered and looked at him with icy eyes.
âThey deliberately plotted to harm me, while I just said the word âmiscarriageâ, but you think Iâm vicious? Why donât you think about what sheâs done to me?â
Jason stiffened and grew at a loss for words.
In the end, he only said coldly, âDidnât you turn out fine? Besides, this might not have anything to do with Celine!â
Nell smiled sarcastically and shook her head. She could not even be bothered to say anything more to him.
She turned around and headed for the Rolls-Royce.
However, a voice suddenly called behind her. âWait!â
Nell paused in her tracks, her expression frigid.
Jason stepped forward and stopped a step away from her.
The fine rain drifted between the two like an invisible barrier separating them.
She said coldly, âJust spill it already! I donât have that much time to waste on you!â
Jason clenched his fists tightly. In the end, he asked the question he wanted to ask from the bottom of his heart.
âAre you... Really together with him?â
Nell naturally knew which âhimâ Jason was talking about.
The corners of her mouth lifted. She did not turn back, but her head was tilted just enough for him to see the smile on her lips.
âSo what if I am?â
âWhen did it happen?â
âWhy do you care?â
Jason. â...â
He paused before saying in a low voice, âGideon Leith isnât as simple as you think. His background is complex, and heâs not a good match for you.
Youâll regret it sooner or later if you stay with him!â
Nell laughed.
In that smile was indescribable desolation and irony.
âIn the past, there were people who said that we were a match made in heaven, but what happened?â
Jason. â...â
âJason Morton, donât keep acting like a know-it-all and thinking that you understand everything. In the end, youâll find out that you donât know anything at all. You donât understand anything at all!â
Then, no longer interested in getting involved with him, she strode away on her heels.
Someone had already come forward to greet her with an umbrella.
The bluish-black umbrella was held over her head respectfully.
The person bowed and opened the door for her and Nell entered the car. Her figure carried an indescribable coldness and loftiness.
Jason stood in place and watched the car door shut, and then it dawned on him.
He suddenly realized that he never seemed to have understood this woman.
For six whole years, his memories of her seemed to remain in that summer six years ago.
She was dressed in a blue school uniform with her hair tied up in a high ponytail. She smiled sweetly at him while holding a pile of exercise books in her hands.
At that moment, his heart had melted like snow in the spring. It was beautiful.
Then, the memory blurred.
After Cathy Morrisonâs accident, the person holding power in the Jennings family changed, and Nell went abroad.
It seemed like she never smiled at him again. Her gentle and delicate voice was gradually replaced by cold and quiet ones.
It was like a piece of ice that would not melt for thousands of years. He had no idea what she was thinking, much less how to melt the ice.
Even if he stood in front of her and it seemed as though they were impossibly close, he knew that they were far apart.
They were so far that he could not touch her heart. They were so far that... If possible, he did not want to have started that relationship six years ago.
It was because of this that he always felt that breaking up was the best choice.
He loved Celine, and Celine loved him. Nell was nothing more than a brief but beautiful dream from his youth.
He woke up from this dream long ago, but because he could not bear to, he did not wake her as well.
Things were the way they should be now.
However, why did he feel sadness in his heart?
When he watched her get into another manâs car, when he saw those people treat her with respect like she was the noblest princess in the world.
Why did he feel his heart grow frantic?
It was as if something that had been his for a long time was suddenly taken away.
In place of that was now an empty hole. Cold air blew through, making his spine chill.
Jason walked back, disoriented, when his phone suddenly rang.
He picked up the call mechanically and heard Thomas Mortonâs furious voice.
âWhat the hell is going on? Is Celine and her family really that shameless? How could they do something like that?!â
Jason finally came back to his senses. âDad, itâs a long story. Iâll explain it to you when I come back.â
...
The black Rolls-Royce sped along the highway early in the morning.
In the car, Nell pursed her lips and smiled at the man sitting next to her.
Gideon grew slightly uncomfortable at her look and cleared his throat.
Then, he suddenly reached out and pushed her face away.
Nell let out a muffled laugh.
âPresident Leith, Iâll remember your great kindness today! Iâll definitely repay you in the future when I have the chance.â
Gideon frowned slightly and turned to her. âWhat did you call me?â

Nellâs smile froze.
A touch of coldness flashed in his eyes. âMrs. Leith, do you need me to teach you how to address your own husband?â
Nell. â...â
She quickly shook her head. âNo.â
âThen letâs hear it.â
Nell was a bit embarrassed. âUh, now? Would it be a little... Inappropriate?â
In front, Matthew immediately said, âYoung Missus, Iâm deaf and canât hear anything.â
Nell. â...â
Gideon's cold glance swept over. Matthew immediately shut up and raised the barrier between the front and back seats.
Nell was even more speechless.
It was just saying a few words. Was there a need for that?
It was as they were doing something shady back here!
Thinking about this, she suddenly blushed.
âBah bah bah! What are you thinking about?â
