Chapter 306
Spoiled by the President
Nell also understood so she did not insist to stay.
A few days later, Nell's new show was finalized, which coincided with Christmas, and Joel called and asked if they wanted to get together.
Since Nell had nothing to do, she agreed.
When she went over, only did she realize that today was not only Christmas but also Owenâs birthday.
Nell did not expect it so she did not bring a gift and was a little embarrassed by that.
Fortunately, Gideon had already prepared it earlier. When he handed over the gift to her, Nell shot a glance at him.
"Why didn't you signal me earlier?"
Gideon smiled. "Youâve been so busy these days, so I didnât want to bother you.â
He paused for a while. "Owen grew up with us and wonât care about these.â
Although Nell knew that what he said was the truth, she also understood that the most basic etiquette was required.
The party was quite lively but halfway through it, Nell suddenly received a message in WeChat.
It turned out that it was sent by Tara.
She was a little surprised.
After drinking together last time, she added Tara's WeChat account but the two have not been in touch.
Therefore, Nell was still a little confused when she heard from her.
She got up, went outside, and saw Tara wearing a beige cashmere sweater standing not far from the corner.
Seeing her coming out, she rushed over and smiled. "I'm sorry, Ms. Jennings, Iâll have to trouble you to pass this gift that I prepared for my senior.
Can you give it to him for me?"
Nell suddenly became more confused.
"Owen is inside. Wouldn't it be better for you to give it to him?"
Tara smiled reluctantly.
"No, I'm in a hurry and need to leave immediately so Iâm not going to crash the party. Besides that, it's not an important thing. Since I was just passing by here and heard that you guys are here, so I brought it along."
Up to this point, Nell felt awkward for not helping.
So, she received the gift.
"Well, then, are you sure youâre not coming in?â
"Nope, I have something to do, so I'll leave first. Thanks for the trouble."
Nell shook her head. "No problem."
"Then Iâll leave first."
"Okay."
Nell felt helpless when she saw her left.
She did not give much thought to it and walked in with the box in her hand.
When she returned to the room, Owen was playing cards with a few people.
The three of them had just finished one round and were taking a break.
Gideon saw her come in and asked, "Where did you go?"
Nell replied, "Tara suddenly sent me a message, saying that thereâs something for me."
As she was saying, she walked to Owen and stuffed the box to him. "This is her birthday present for you, have a look."
Owen was taken aback and was somewhat surprised.
He glanced at the box in his hand, then got up and looked behind her, and asked, "Where is she?"
Nell sighed. "She left!"
âLeft? Since she came, why did she leave?"
Nell shrugged. "How would I know? But she said there was something urgent, maybe thereâs something she needed to attend to."
Hearing this, Owen nodded and did not continue asking.
Then, they continued playing until midnight before leaving.
Nell and the others went home too.
The Jackman family had recently gone abroad and was not in the country, so it was meaningless for Owen to go home alone.
Besides that, he had a few drinks and an appointment for an early surgery the next morning, so he paid for a room and rested in the hotel.
When Gideon and others saw this, they let him be and the group left the hotel.
It was already dark and Owen returned to the room feeling exhausted physically and mentally, even more tired than having done ten major surgeries.
He laid down on the bed and when he turned his head, he saw the box beside the bed.
It was given by Tara and the box was intricate and pink in color. It even had a bow tied on it and one could tell it was a girlâs thing at a glance.
He curled his lips as the fatigue in his body faded inexplicably and his mood improved tremendously.
He got up and walked over to open the box.
The entire box was filled with origami stars. He was stunned for a while and laughed blankly. It was the first time in his life that he received this...
How would one put it? A chic gift!
He remembered the last time when he saw someone sent a gift, he was still in high school! That was years ago.
He did not expect that after so long, he would receive a box too.
He smiled, rummaged through the stars inside, and found a note.
There was a sentence written on it. The handwriting was beautiful and simple, which exuded the same impression that the person had gifted him.
It said, "Senior, happy birthday to you. I don't know what you need, maybe you don't need anything but a sincere blessing. So, hereâs to wishing you everlasting happiness.â
It was simple and not flashy but it caused a warm and fuzzy feeling.
The corners of Owen's mouth curled upward silently.
He suddenly thought of something. Then, he turned around and took out his phone to press a series of numbers.
He was about to call but then hesitated.
In the end, he chose to give it up because he felt a little undecided.
What happened to him? It was just an ordinary gift and he intended to call that little girl to thank her?
The phone number was from the last time when Tara was drunk and he accidentally saw it when the phone was left with him.
Initially, he did not want to remember it, but his memory had always been good. He only took a glance and it was etched in his head without being able to wipe it off.
Thinking of that night, his heart had a slight tug.
It was an event in the research institute at that time.
He had a good amount of alcohol but he drank a little more because he was happy that day.
On the other hand, Tara could not hold her drinks and got drunk after a few glasses.
Several colleagues coaxed him to send her back to the room. Since Tara was the only girl in the academy and there were so many people around plus he could not trust others with her, so he sent her back to her room personally.
Unexpectedly, that girl threw up all over him once he put her on the bed.
Not only was it on him, but the bed was also messed up too.
It was already late at night by then, so he called the front desk, only to learn that there were no rooms left. However, he could not bear to see her sleep on the dirty bed.
So, he had to take her to his room and cleaned her up before putting her to bed.
Yet, the girl got up the next day and acted as if she did not know him. She did not even thank him when she saw him and left just like that.
A wasted effort for sleeping on the sofa all night long.

It was surprising that Tara, who had always been so polite and upright, would have such a rash side.
