Chapter 324
Spoiled by the President
After Stephanie was gone, Old Master Garrett lovingly gazed at Celine and smiled. âCeline, your sister often keeps to herself. Please bear with her and donât let it get to you.â
Celine obediently smiled. âOf course, weâre a family after all. Keeping the peace is most important.â
The old man nodded in commendation. Leaving the conversation at that, Mr. Collins pushed him away.
Watching at the side, Nell rendered speechless.
âTsk tsk, donât you think that Celine only resorts to the same trick up her sleeve? Always playing the victim and a paragon of virtues. Yet, it doesnât get old and she gets away with it every time.â
Gideon coldly smirked.
âI guess a lot of people in this world judge a personâs character with their eyes instead of their hearts!â
Nell raised a brow.
She turned to look at Gideon and grinned. âI wonder if our great President Leith judges a personâs character with his eyes or heart?â
With downcast eyes, Gideonâs lips curled into a wicked smile.
âI look at people with my eyes and only at you, itâs my heart.â
He held her hand to his chest.
âListen, my heartâs happy because of you!â
Rosiness crept onto Nellâs cheeks. Not only did she fail in hitting on him but she was, in turn, made a pass at. She quickly withdrew her arm.
Nell darted him a stare. âRascal!â
She scurried past him and went inside.
Gideon chortled at the rare occasion his wife was caught blushing from jesting. He then followed her footsteps.
Nell had the feeling that she had to get to the bottom of the matter.
At least she would know what was going on should one day she be taken for a ride.
It was pretty simple to figure this out. An enquiry made to Joseph would solve it.
Joseph was aware of the sistersâ former relationship and knew that this matter would not go past Nell. Hence, there was no point in lying.
When Nell and Gideon spotted Joseph, the latter had just come out of the tea room with Harrison after talking business.
Dumbstruck by their presence, Joseph proceeded with a smile. âDeon, Nelly, why arenât you guys having fun in the lobby and are here instead?â
Gideon remained quiet while Nell blissfully answered, âWe went to the garden for a walk and somehow ended up here.â
She then took a glance at Harrison.
Harrisonâs eyes met hers too. However, he merely nodded in gesture as they both were not familiar with each other.
Harrison grinned at Gideon. âYoung Master Leith, itâs been quite a commotion for your latest buy-out of several major enterprises. Young people nowadays sure have what it takes.â
Maintaining a poker face, Gideon faintly replied, âThe Grahams are into politics while the Leiths are in the trade. Weâve always kept to our businesses. I didnât think Uncle Graham would pay close attention to Leith Corporation.â
Harrison was at a loss by his words.
He then awkwardly laughed.
âWeâre old friends after all. Itâs not strange that I have that information but donât get the wrong idea, I donât have any other intentions. I just wanted to praise you.â
Gideon slightly curled the edge of his lips.
âIf thatâs the case, thank you for your compliment.â
Although the Grahams and Leiths never had a fallout in the face of the public, it was not their first time crossing swords behind the scenes.
The duo was well aware of this. Hence, they did not continue the conversation when things turned sour.
Harrison informed Joseph beforehand and left.
Joseph turned back and told Gideon and Nell, âYou two mustâve something to ask of me since youâre here.â
Contrary to concealing her intention, Nell nodded.
Joseph smiled.
âI thought so. Itâs fine, I guess I should talk it through. Follow me.â
He took the lead and brought them into the tea room.
Owing to Old Master Garrettâs love for tea, the tea room in the Garrettsâ residence was furnished in a rather elegant style.
The room was painted in a quaint hue while the coffee table in front was made of aged sandalwood. Just sitting there gave an air of walking on cloud nine before tea was even brewed.
The trio took a seat one by one. Joseph took out some tea leaves to brew as he said, âI knew that you'd come to see me but I didnât think you blurted out in front of so many people. You shouldâve saved me some face. Although a lot of people could tell what was going on, no one dares to bring it up in front of the old master. They are just waiting for you to reason with me to see us make a fool of ourselves!â
Nell smiled. âSecond Uncle Garrett, you must be confident to accept Celine into the capital since you knew we were going to come reason with you.â
With a frown, Joseph lifted his eyes and stared at her.
On the side, Gideon toyed with the ring on his ring finger with a straight face. His eyes seemed chilly.
Joseph took a glance at her before turning to Gideon. He paused for several seconds before sighing.
âFine, you two wonât take no for an answer. I shouldnât keep it from you then.â
He got up to pour each of them a cup of tea before sitting down and saying, âCeline Jennings isnât Juliâs daughter.â
Nell was dumbfounded.
Although this outcome was expected, it still came as a surprise when Joseph put it into words.
Joseph contemplated and replied, âApart from me, my wife, and my brother, the rest of the Garretts are unaware of this matter. Weâve reached a consensus to keep the old master happy in his remaining days. It doesnât matter whether Celine is Juliâs child. All that matters is that she looks like her.â
He paused two seconds and continued. âMoreover, if thereâs anyone else in the world who knows of the childâs whereabouts, our only chance is Celine.â

Nevertheless, Joseph refused to speak more on the topic.
Gideon was not interested in the child but was rather intrigued by the Garrett familyâs behavior.
Thus, he feigned a smile and asked when Joseph was done talking, âYou got Celine to pose as the child but her bad reputation would sooner or later fall into the ears of the old master even if you keep it from him. How are you preparing to explain that to him?â
Joseph frowned.
âThat is in the past. The old master doesnât have many days left. Iâm going to forbid the family to speak or bring up the past. As for outsiders, the old master wonât believe a word out of them.â
Gideon sneered.
Nell asked, âYou said that the old master doesnât have many days left. Did the doctor inform you?â
Joseph nodded.
He was silent for a while before uttering, âThe cancer cells have spread to his liver. The old master refused to accept treatment of any kind. He wonât be able to hold out for another two months.â
