Chapter 347
Spoiled by the President
All Nell could feel was the pounding of her heartbeat which seemed to slow down following the rhythm of the child's heartbeat.
She raised her head to look at the surprised and curious faces around her as tears streamed down her face.
"What are you all looking at? Didn't you see she fell into the water? Hurry up and call a doctor! I beg you, hurry up and call a doctor for help!"
Only then did someone react as they quickly took out their phone to call for medical attention.
Nell continued to apply first aid to Lizzy while tears rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably.
"Sorry, it's all Mommyâs fault. Mommy shouldn't have let you go to the bathroom alone. I shouldâve been with you, Lizzy. I'm sorry."
At this point, Nell blamed herself. There had never been such a moment in her life that she felt so regretful. Why did she let her go in alone? Why was she alright with letting such a small child roam about in such a strange place alone?
She did not know why Lizzy fell into the water or why she ran in the opposite direction from her.
Still, no matter what the reason was, she could not hide the fact that she did not take care of Lizzy well.
Fortunately, due to Old Master Garrettâs illness, the Garrett family had a family doctor all year round.
As soon as Nell rescued Lizzy, someone had already notified the doctor.
Coincidentally, he happened to be around.
Together with the doctor were Old Master Garrett, Old Master Leith, and a group of people.
Gideon naturally came together too.
When he saw the child lying there along with the stressed-out woman beside her, the manâs breath was caught in his throat and his gaze was cold.
Terrified, Old Madam Quinton and Old Master Leith hurried forward.
However, because the doctor was already at the scene, they did not dare to go near so as not to disturb the rescue attempt.
"Wh-what's going on? How could Lizzy have fallen into the water? She can't swim, so why would she come to the pool?"
On the way here, the Old Madam and the others had already heard what was going on. At this second, her face was pale with fright and she seemed to be in a state of shock.
Someone had already helped Nell, whose face was also pale, to stand up. However, because she had been in a hurry to go into the water to save Lizzy, she did not have the time to change her clothes.
The exquisite evening dress she was wearing earlier was now a crumpled mess. Together with her hair, it clung to her body, making her look particularly embarrassing.
She shook her head whilst her body trembled from the cold.
"I don't know. When I arrived, Lizzy was already in the water. It was all my fault. I shouldn't have let her in alone. I thought... I thought it would be fine for her to enter the bathroom by herself. It's all my fault!"
Tears slid down uncontrollably again, and the hot, salty liquid slid across her clammy face which made her tremble even more.
Upon seeing this, Gideon calmly took off his jacket, draped it over her shoulders, and wrapped her body.
"Don't be afraid, the doctor is here, and Lizzy will be fine."
He calmed her down and took Nell into his arms.
Her cold body could now feel some warmth. As if she were a tight string that instantly went slack, Nell's originally stiff body suddenly relaxed, and she just went limp in his arms.
Only then did Old Madam Quinton realize that there was something wrong with her, so she asked in concern, "Nelly, are you all right?"
Nell shook her head.
Maybe she had caught a cold or was too anxious just now, so there was a surge of adrenaline.
At this moment, she felt dizzy, and her whole body seemed to be drained of energy. If it were not for Gideon's support, she could hardly stand.
Then, the doctor spoke up next to them.
âThe child has coughed up the water and her vital signs are back, but itâs too cold outside, so letâs move her into the room."
Everyone started to move the child in.
While Gideon kept his hands wrapped around Nell, he could sense that Lizzy's accident had really scared her.
The womanâs body was trembling, and her hands were extremely cold as if she had just been fished out of the ice.
He could not help but ask worriedly, "How are you? Can you bear with it?"
Nell swallowed and nodded. "I'm fine. Quickly help me in and see how Lizzy is going."
Gideon knew that she would not feel at ease if Lizzy's safety was not confirmed, hence he supported her as they walked inside.
Very quickly, Lizzy had woken up.
There was nothing serious. The child was just frightened and had some water in her lungs which she had spat out just now, but the reason why she did not come to immediately was that she was so frightened she passed out.
At this moment, the doctor used a simple technique and the child woke up.
When Lizzy woke up, she gasped in fright and stretched out her hands to look for her Mommy everywhere.
Upon seeing this, Nell quickly broke away from Gideon and ran over. She sat down by the bed and embraced Lizzy in her arms.
"Lizzy, don't be afraid. Mommy is here."
"Wa! Mommy, Lizzy was so scared. Lizzy thought she would never see you again."
Listening to the child's cry, Nell was very sad, but she endured her urge to cry and comforted the little girl, "Don't be afraid, Lizzy. Mommy is here.
Nothingâs going to happen to you. Everything is alright now."
Under Nell's comfort, Lizzy finally calmed down after a long time.
The doctor checked on her again and made sure that there was no major problem. Just in case, he had someone brew some ginger soup before leaving.
When the doctor left, a group of people immediately gathered around her.
"Lizzy, what was the matter just now? Why did you fall into the pool?"
As Lizzy grabbed onto the sleeves of Nell's suit jacket, she stared blankly at the worried adults and then looked back at Nell.
"Mommy, I was wrong. Iâll never chase the little butterfly again." Nell was taken aback.
She was still holding a bowl in her hand and was feeding Lizzy spoonfuls of ginger soup. Yet when she heard those words, she stopped with the feeding. Instead, she put the spoon down and asked curiously, "What little butterfly?"

I got curious for a while, so I ran over to catch it. But I didnât expect it to fly further and further away and it flew eventually towards the back door.
âI was not satisfied, and I thought to myself that such a beautiful little butterfly must be caught and given to Mommy. So, I chased it. But when I ran outside, the little butterfly disappeared. It was then that it happenedâ I felt a force behind that pushed me into the swimming pool.â
While Nell's expression changed, the faces of the others around her also sank.
"What did you say? Someone pushed you?" asked Old Madam Quinton.
She was furious, and given that she rarely lost her usual gentleness, she sounded rather sharp.
Lizzy was scared again, and her small body trembled slightly as she looked anxiously at the old lady.
"Grandma, are you alright? Are you angry?"
