Chapter 351

Spoiled by the President

Well, it was no surprise that Old Master Garrett was making a big deal out of it.

As the relationship between the Four Great Clans was currently in its most susceptible, a slight rustle of change may trigger a series of chain reactions.

The Garretts might have decided a marriage alliance with the Grahams, but it did not mean that they were willing to have a complete fallout with the Leith family.

To remain on good terms with both the Grahams and the Leiths while taking a neutral stand was the best decision for the Garretts.

As everyone knew the severity of the matter, they had no objections.

Even a few, in the mind to gain the favor of the Leith family, were enthusiastic and initiative to assist in the investigation.

Half an hour soon passed.

The investigation showed that no one carried any type of remote electronics of that sort.

Sitting on the sidelines, Nell was without a word.

She knew that there were certain things that, if she were to bring up now, would lead others to believe that she was deliberately making things difficult.

So it was best to just wait and see and go with the flow.

Everyone was called to the main hall since the incident, making it impossible to leave and unlikely for anyone to destroy any evidence.

Old Master Garrett said, “I’m sorry to offend. Since the toy butterfly is not found on anyone, it can only mean that the thing is with someone in this house. Joseph, carry out the order and check everybody’s rooms, and don’t forget a body search. Do not miss out on any corners.”

Joseph frowned but did not comment and instead, complied and sent the people to carry out the order.

Someone among the guests whispered in disgruntlement, “The child’s fine anyway. Why must he make a huge fuss out of things? Is there a need?”

Only when another person shot daggers at him, it prompted that certain someone to shut his mouth and keep his comments to himself.

Within striking distance, Celine stood in a corner as the color drained from her face.

Throwing a glance at her, Jim’s complexion darkened.

“Dad, there are so many rooms. Joseph can’t handle it on his own, let me help him.”

He muttered to Old Master Garrett.

Old Master Garrett nodded.

With that, Jim turned and walked towards the rooms.

Nell’s eyes narrowed at his receding figure.

Just then, Lizzy suddenly tugged on her sleeve.

“Mommy.”

Turning over, Nell craned her neck down to meet her eyes.

“What’s wrong?”

When Lizzy lifted her head, her onyx crystal eyes were clear and bright. She replied in a daze, “Mommy, I was in the back garden just now and heard Aunty talking to Grandpa Garrett.”

Nell was taken aback.

She turned to glanced at Celine and the latter had her head hung low, perhaps due to guilt. Her hands were fiddling with the straps of her handbag.

Although Nell could not get a clear look at Celine’s face, she could tell from her actions that Celine was unsettled.

For the very reason of guilt, Celine did not dare to lift her head to look this way.

Naturally, she was unaware that Lizzy was talking to Nell.

Turning away, Nell softly asked, “What did you hear them say?”

Lizzy frowned as she tried to remember for several seconds before she answered, “I don’t really remember. I think it’s something about Grandpa Garrett stopping her from stirring trouble with you but that aunty didn’t seem too happy. She said something else after.”

Lizzy had yet turned six-years-old, so it proved a difficult enough feat for her to recall the conversation.

Nell gave it a thought and muttered, “Good girl Lizzy, don’t be afraid. Despite what they talked about, it has nothing to do with Lizzy. Lizzy is the best child in the world and Mommy will protect you.”

With big bright eyes, the little kiddo gave a big nod.

After consoling the child, Nell got up and walked towards the rooms that were being checked.

At the same moment, Celine was summoned to her room for an inspection.

However, it was concluded that the butterfly toy was absent in both Celine’s room and on her body.

As Celine strolled out her room all relaxed, she darted Nell a provoking look and let out a gentle laugh. “Sister, the fact that the butterfly isn’t with me must have disappointed you.”

Nell narrowed her eyes.

Celine walked past her and arrogantly strutted towards Old Master Garrett.

Meanwhile, a cry was heard abruptly from the door.

In an overbearing presence, Jim dragged a young-looking female maid over and hurled the girl onto the ground. At the same time, he tossed something over.

It was the remote butterfly that appeared in the surveillance video.

“Dad, the perpetrator is found. It is her!”

“No-no, it wasn’t me.”

Seeming rather flustered, the maid explained herself in speech and gesture. “Old Master, I’ve never seen this toy butterfly before. It really wasn’t me. I don’t know how it ended up in my room.”

“What excuse is this? The thing was found in your room. I asked the others just now and they said you weren’t around when it happened. No one saw where you were. Who can it be other than you?”

Stumped, the maid was on the verge of tears.

With a frown, Nell came forth and enquired, “What’s your name?”

The maid did not recognize Nell but she knew that Nell was no ordinary person to be able to stand out and question her at a time like this.

She answered, “My name is Iris.”

“Where were you at the time the incident happened?”

“I-I went to the Second Young Lady’s room to help her retrieve an item.”

“Second Young Lady?”

Tilting her head, Nell gazed at Celine who was standing aside.

Celine grinned. “Yes. After I came down, it struck me that I'd forgotten to bring along a painting to give to grandpa, so I sent Iris to grab it for me in my room. Is there a problem?”

Nell smirked. “What a coincidence. You could’ve sent her sooner or later, yet you sent her at that vital moment?”

Celine smiled in a good-natured manner. “Sister, are you suspecting me because of this?”

With a furrow between his brows, Old Master Garrett turned to Nell.

Slightly infuriated, Nell solemnly refuted, “I know better than that.”

She then turned to look at Iris before harshly asking, “You said you went to her room. Is anyone a witness?”

Nervous, Iris hummed and hawed, “I— No. There are a lot of guests tonight so everyone is busy at the front. Basically, no one is at the back.”

Nell nodded. “So you’re saying that no one can testify that you were absent at the scene of the incident?”

Iris grew anxious at that note.

“It really wasn’t me who pushed Miss Lizzy down the water. I don’t have any reason to do so! How would I know it’d be such a coincidence!”

Old Master Garrett did not have the patience to hear her defense, hence he angrily exclaimed, “Call the police! Take this ungrateful thing away from here! Leave it to the police and tell them that it’s a case of attempted murder.

“Yes.”

Someone immediately advanced forward to drag Iris out.
