Chapter 359
Spoiled by the President
Celine froze as she turned around.
Stephanie quickly laughed to hide her deliberateness.
Celine raised her eyebrows as a trace of realization flashed in her eyes before she explained, âAre you talking about the butterfly birthmark on my back? I did have it when I was a child, but it slowly went away as I grew up.â
She answered casually without any trace of nervousness or guilt as if she was talking about something completely normal.
Stephanie pursed her lips.
âIs that so? I didnât know birthmarks could disappear.â
Celine smiled. âMe neither, but this kind of thing isnât unheard of. After all, itâs just pigment on the body. Itâs common in medicine too.â
Stephanie nodded at this.
âI see.â
The two stopped talking. After they had finished their food, they did not go back to the pool. Instead, they sat around casually for a while before going home.
When Old Master Garrett heard that they had gone out together in the afternoon, he subconsciously frowned and had a bad feeling about it.
Although he was a man, he knew the feelings between those girls.
Stephanie had been very cold to Celine ever since she came back.
After the scandalous incident last night, it was reasonable that Stephanie would ignore Celine more today, or maybe even mock her.
Not only did she not do that, but she even asked Celine out after lunch?
Old Master Garrett could sense something wrong, so as soon as Celine and Stephanie returned home, he secretly called for the latter.
âGrandpa, you called for me?â
Stephanie walked into the room and asked respectfully.
At this time, Old Master Garrett was sitting in a rocking chair with his eyes closed.
Hearing her voice, he opened his eyes and motioned for her to close the door.
So, Stephanie turned and shut the door before walking over to him.
âGrandpa, is there something you needed?â
Old Master Garrett watched her and asked in a low voice, âWhere did you take Celine to earlier?â
Startled, Stephanie pursed her lips.
She lowered her head and said softly, âWe didnât go anywhere. We just went to the new Hot Spring Villa to soak in the hot spring for a while.â
Old Master Garrett stared at her suspiciously. âReally?â
In return, Stephanie gave a mocking smiled.
âIf grandpa doesnât believe me, you can ask Celine instead, or are you still worried that Iâll bully her?â
Old Master Garrett raised his eyebrows.
After a moment, he said, âYou donât have to provoke me with such words. Although sheâs back now, the two of you hold equal weight in my heart. I raised you since you were a child and have never treated you as an adopted granddaughter.â
Stephanie stood there in silence.
Old Master Garrett paused for a few seconds before he suddenly asked, âDo you know that the Grahams has rejected Celine marrying into their family last night?â
Stephanie nodded. âI know.â
âWhat do you think about this matter?â
Stephanie paused.
She looked at the old man, a little confused.
âI... Donât have any opinions about it.â
Celine and the youngest Graham had nothing to do with her, so what opinions would she have?
However, the Old Master was clearly not satisfied with her answer.
He frowned and gave her a vaguely angry look.
âThen, what do you think of Nathan Graham?â
Stephanie was stunned for a few seconds before she suddenly understood. Her eyes flashed incredulously.
âGrandpa, why are you asking me this?â
Old Master Garrett scoffed coldly. âWhy do you think Iâm asking you this? That girl Celine is incapable of keeping such a good man, but thereâs another person in our Garrett family who can.
âStephanie, Iâve raised and nurtured you carefully since you were young. Unlike her, youâre a true daughter. If youâre the one marrying over, the Grahams wonât have any problems with it, and you can also help the Garrett family in the future. What do you think about it?â
Stephanie jerked fiercely.
She had never thought that the Old Master would make such a request of her.
Her expression sank as she looked at the Old Master in disbelief. âGrandpa, are you trying to push your ideas on me now that you know Celine Jennings canât marry into the Graham family? Youâre forcing a man she doesnât want on me?â
The Old Masterâs sharp eyebrows narrowed in anger. âNonsense! What do you mean she doesnât want that man? Although Nathan Graham is the youngest son of the Graham family, he has always been good at dealing with people and his abilities are worthy of recognition. More importantly, he looks smart and gentlemanly.
âBesides, the family was only interested in matching them, but they didnât end up together. How did he become a man that she doesnât want?â
Without hesitation, Stephanie snapped back in anger, âI refuse!â
Old Master Garrettâs expression twisted.
âWhy?â
âGrandpa, Iâm your granddaughter, not a tool you use in exchange for benefits. I know that youâve always wanted to establish a marital relationship with the Grahams in order to keep the Garretts prosperous.
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 358 Birthmark âHowever, I believe that we should rely on our own abilities for that, not on the marriages of your children and grandchildren! If we canât do that, even if we go through the trouble of climbing into the Graham family, weâll have to lower our heads and listen to them in order to survive. Whatâs the difference between that and being a beggar on the street?â
Old Master Garrettâs face immediately darkened. He thundered, âWhat nonsense are you spouting? Which part of our Garrett family is inferior to the Grahams? Why would it be begging? Where do you think the food you eat and the clothes you wear now come from? Do you think that power and profit can really be obtained by personal ability alone?
âThe capital is a deep pool and the complexity of the network of relationships and interests in it is beyond what you can imagine. If we marry into the Graham family, itâll be an alliance between two giants. Otherwise, when Iâm no longer around in the future, what will your two uncles be able to accomplish? When that time comes, do you think you will still be the high and mighty darling daughter of the Garretts?â
Stephanie shook her head.
âEven if I canât, itâs better than marrying someone I donât like.â
âNonsense! Youâre still young. You think that love and freedom will trump over everything. When youâre old, youâll know that all those things are an illusion. Only people who have nothing will believe that. True freedom is something you obtain by standing at the top. Do you understand?â
Stephanie wanted to laugh.
She always knew that her grandfather was someone very passionate about power.
It was not like he had never tried pushing his ideas on her and tried to make a fuss about her marriage.
In the end, he had given up and she thought that he would not mention it again.
Unexpectedly, he actually proposed for her to marry Nathan Graham today!
Stephanie smiled self-deprecatingly.
âI understand what you mean, grandfather, but I donât care about all that. I can do anything you ask me to for the family, but please donât use my marriage to get the glory that belongs to you. I canât do it, and I wonât agree with it either!â
