Chapter 360
Spoiled by the President
Old Master Garrett immediately flew into a rage.
âWhat did you say? Say it again!â
With a lift of her chin, Stephanie got angry as well. âI said, I wonât agree to it!â
âYou!â
He covered his chest as he flushed with anger. Seeing this, Stephanie got a shock and hurriedly brought him his medicine.
âGrandpa, how are you? Quick, eat this!â
The old man swatted her away with a slap and bellowed, âWhy do you care if Iâm alive or dead when youâre so disobedient? If I die, wouldnât it be a weight off your chest? Who else would force or control you in the future?â
Stephanieâs heart soured, but looking at this complexion, she did not dare to argue back.
Though she said sorrowfully, âGrandpa, I donât like Nathan Graham and donât want to marry him. I was just speaking from my heart. In your heart, is the happiness of your children and grandchildren not as important as those superficial powers and rights?â
Old Master Garrett glared at her, not speaking.
Seeing this, Stephanie knew that he would not listen to her, and her heart gradually sank.
Fortunately, the Old Master was so angry that it made him a little short of breath earlier. He felt much better after slowing down.
Stephanie stood up, wiped her tears, and looked at him calmly.
âGrandpa, Iâm sure you already know that Celine Jennings isnât the child that mom lost back then, right?â
Old Master Garrettâs body jolted.
His expression shifted.
He glared at Stephanie and said in a low voice, âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
Stephanie gave a wry smile.
âYou donât have to play dumb. Not only do you know about this, everyone else in the family knows too, but you still continued to act in this little play with everyone else and let her enter the Garrett family. It is all because you think sheâs the kind of person whoâs ambitious yet can be manipulated.
âLike you, sheâs someone who would do anything for benefits. If she becomes your granddaughter, sheâll be tied to the Garrett family in the same boat, and sheâll do her best to win over the Graham family for her own sake.
âFurthermore, she has a deep grudge with Nell Jennings. In the future, if the Garretts and the Leiths really end up in conflict, she can just stick to the Garretts, and the Garretts can just rely on her status in the Graham family. The two families would complement each other.â
She pursed her lips and paused for two seconds before she continued, âBut grandpa, what if I told you that momâs child really didnât die and has been living right beside us the entire time? Would you still make the decisions youâre making now?â
Old Master Garrett shook violently!
He stared at Stephanie in disbelief. His pale lips trembled slightly, and only after a long while did he ask in a shaky voice, âYou... What did you say?â
Stephanie looked at him calmly and enunciated her words. âI said, sheâs still alive, and sheâs around us.â
Old Master Garrett was utterly shocked.
His old eyes were filled with astonishment.
Stephanie continued, âI saw her with my own eyes. There was a butterfly-shaped birthmark on her back. When mom was alive, she told me that this birthmark was very special and that there wasnât another one in the whole world. At that time, she even jokingly said that the child was the incarnation of a butterfly fairy. Thatâs why I knew it was her the moment I saw it.â
She crouched down in front of Old Master Garrett, held his hand, and said sincerely, âGrandpa, we actually found her a long time ago. She was always there, but we were blind and never recognized her. Instead, we just pushed her farther and farther away, leading to todayâs situation.â
Old Master Garrett finally recovered a little from his shock. He gripped her hand and asked urgently, âWhere did you see her?â
Stephanie said, âOn the day of your birthday banquet. I took her to change her clothes and saw the birthmark on her back.â
Old Master Garrett shook again!
âOn the day of the birthday party... Change of clothes?
âWasnât that...â
His pupils dilated sharply and he stared ahead in disbelief.
Stephanie smiled sadly. âSurprised, arenât you? I didnât expect it either. Perhaps itâs just a coincidence, or perhaps itâs Godâs will.
âNo one would have thought that what weâve been looking for so long and so hard was actually right in front of us. Everyone out there thought that I would be afraid of her coming back to take away my position and everything that I have now.
âOnly I know in my heart that Iâm not afraid at all. Thatâs because Iâve never felt that she was a competitor.
âMom saved me and brought me out of the orphanage. She has always regarded me as if I was her own, so itâs impossible for me to hate her child.
Thatâs why I was actually overjoyed that she was found.
âHowever, I hesitated on whether to tell you. Outsiders look at us and see brightness and beauty, but I know that this family is just a golden cage.
Everyone in it is just birds in captivity by grandpa.
âWeâre just like chess pieces at your mercy, small trivial screws in the huge machine that is the Garrett family. Although Iâm grateful to you for raising me, teaching me, and giving me a good education and social status, it doesnât mean that Iâm willing to be a captive bird and live under the control of others all my life like a marionette.
âI believe that she wouldnât be willing either, which is why I hesitated. However, I chose to tell you the truth now honestly because I realized that sheâs different from me.
âI should say that sheâs different from all of us. She has her own opinions, capable, and has someone who loves, protects, and respects her. She will not become your captive bird and she will not be led by the nose by the interests of the family. To be honest, I really envy her, but unfortunately, Iâm not as fortunate as her.
âIn that case, it would be better for me to help her. Consider it a way for me to repay momâs kindness for raising me for so many years. I believe that she would feel comforted and happy in heaven.â
Stephanie pursed her lips and added, âAs for the Grahams, I wonât marry into that family. If you really want to force me, then please kick me out of the house. Iâll accept all of your punishments.â
She had finally said what she wanted to say.
She shifted slightly to free herself from the Old Masterâs grip. Then, she got up and walked away without looking back.
In the empty room, only Old Master Garrett was left alone.

A long time passed before a vague smile finally appeared on that pale and old face, and his expression seemed to shift into a tearful one.
The corners of his lips slowly raised, but hot tears flowed out of his eyes.
He raised his hands to cover his face and cried bitterly for the first time in his life.
...
The next day, Nell suddenly received a phone call.
Old Master Garrett said he felt very sorry to Lizzy and her after he had thought deeply about what happened the night before, so he invited her over to the Garrettâs home for a meal and would apologize to her personally.
At that, Nell was very surprised and she even felt strange.
