Chapter 378
Spoiled by the President
âItâs good that you didnât tell anyone. You have to keep this secret for me. I donât want a lot to know.â
âAlright, got it. Donât worry! Iâll let you know if thereâs a good job going.â
âSure, thanks.â
Lucy hung up and sat there blankly. She then picked up her phone and clicked on her account to check the balance.
Glancing at the measly four digits, she bitterly smiled.
No one in this world would have thought that an actress like her, who had received an award, of repute, and an up-and-coming talent invested by her company, only had a little over three thousand in her pocket!
Oh, the star-studded life of a major celebrity in the eyes of the public painted a different picture for her.
Lucy sighed. Just then, her phone rang.
Her complexion saw a change of color when her eyes feasted on the caller display.
Her finger rested above the disconnect button as she hesitated for long before finally deciding to take the call.
It was a hoarse and raspy male voice on the other end of the line.
âI thought you wonât take my call. I guess youâre not that cold and heartless.â
Lucy took strides to a secluded corner and muttered, âWhy are you calling me?â
âMe? Well, I missed my good little girl and specially called to check in on you!â
Lucy angrily refuted. âI told you, I have nothing to do with you! Donât call me your little girl. My last name is Katz and yours is Cecil. Weâre not related by blood!â
The person faintly chuckled.
âReally? I brought you up for ten years, you know. Thereâs a lot of people that can bear witness to that. Youâre my daughter and now that you hit it big, shouldnât you help out your old pops?â
Lucyâs eyes were blaring red from fury.
âDidnât I just deposit you money three months ago? Did you gamble again?â
The personâs voice seemed uneasy.
âNo, I was... Just trying my luck. Who knew itâd be that bad?â
âI donât have any money!â
Without a second thought, Lucy ran her mouth. âI told you not to gamble but you refuse to listen. You come looking for me every time you lose all your money. Do you think Iâm a bottomless pit? I donât have a penny to my name and even if I do, I wonât give it to you. Thatâs it. Iâm hanging up!â
She then terminated the call.
The person called in a few times later but Lucy did not accept the calls.
Having completely lost it, she blacklisted the personâs number.
Within distance, Assistant Cherry walked into the room.
âSister Lucy, whatâs wrong? Why are you looking upset?â
Lucy immediately got a hold of herself and forced a smile. âNothing.â
âOh, itâs great youâre alright. Oh, right, I want to apply for a day off. Tomorrow is my momâs birthday and I want to keep her company for the day, is that okay with you?â
Lucy paused before nodding. âSure, itâs not a huge deal. You can take the day off tomorrow.â
Thankful, Cheery nodded with a smile. âThank you, Sister Lucy.â
After getting off work at night, Lucy dragged her weary body back to the hotel alone.
She just got down the car when an arm reached out to cover her mouth and yanked her to a corner.
Lucy put up a fight but was unable to overcome the attacker, leaving her powerless as he hauled her to the corner.
The moment she was let go, Lucy wanted to scream but soon heard a familiar voice. âItâs me.â
Lucy froze.
The lighting in the parking lot was dimmed, let alone the corners. Nevertheless, she was able to get a clear look at the person's face when she turned around.
âDad! What are you doing here?â
She cried out in surprise. Hit by a realization, she quickly turned blue in the face.
âI told you we have cut ties. Donât come looking for me!â
Lucy was about to leave but was pulled back by the man.
The man scoffed. âYou called me dad earlier and now youâre going to deny it? You sure flip over to the other side faster than flipping a book.â
He took a glance around before whispering, âItâs not the right place to talk here. Letâs head up.â
With that, he swiftly dragged her to a lift.
Once they made it back to her room, Lucy pulled down the curtains and made sure there were no signs of paparazzi before heaving relief.
She turned around and darted an indifferent stare at the sloppy middle-aged man. âWhy are you here?â
The middle-aged manâs last name was Cecil. As he was the fourth child of his family, people called him Old Fourth Cecil.
He was Lucyâs stepfather and adoptive father.
Old Fourth Cecil brazenly sat down on a sofa and said, âWhat else? Iâve been pressed too much for debt lately, so Iâm here to ask you for money.â
âI donât have money!â
Lucy grew furious at that mention and replied in a stern voice, âLeave right now! I donât want to ever see you!â
Old Fourth Cecil was a real rascal. Accustomed to the swearings of local thugs and hooligans, he did not take to heart. Instead, he curled his lips into a wicked smile. âSure, I can leave but after I walked out of this place today, Lucy Katz, your scandals will go viral tomorrow. You can try me if you donât believe me!â
âYou!â
Pale and blue in the face, Lucy was too furious to utter another word.
Old Fourth Cecil grinned with glee. âCome to think of it, would you be where are you today if I hadnât taken pity on you and your mother and took both of you in? What? Now that you have made it big and become independent, you want to kick me aside and live a life of indulgence yourself? Arenât you being ungrateful?â
âIâm ungrateful?â
Hitting the roof, Lucy was trembling by the fingertips. âOver the years, who was the one who paid your gambling debt? You took drugs, committed battery, and went to prison. Who was the one who bailed you out? If it werenât for me, you wouldâve been slaughtered to pieces by your enemies!â
âSure, sure, sure! All the credit goes to you.â
With nothing to lose, Old Fourth Cecil nodded. âThatâs why I can only come here. They brought out guns, you know? Itâs guns. If I donât return the money, theyâre gonna blast a hole to my head. What can I do?â
Giving in to him, Lucy fell onto her bottom on the sofa and rebuked. âHow much do you owe them this time?â
âNot much, just three million.â
âWhat?â
She screeched. âThree million? Do you think Iâm a bank?â
Old Fourth Cecil took a squint at her and smirked. âPlay dumb all your want. Everyone knows that youâre the celebrity in vogue in the business. Any films you accept go by the tens of millions. Whatâs giving a couple of millions to me, huh?â
âThe money doesnât go to me alone!â
With her face ashen from fury, Lucy sharply retorted, âThe pay goes straight to the company and after the company and manager are paid for, how much is left in my hands? How much money do I make filming these shoots to fill your bottomless pit?â
Old Fourth Cecil was growing impatient. His eyes turned grim.
âYou really donât have the money?â
Lucy frankly asserted. âI donât!â
âGreat!â

I heard that youâre on intimate terms with the son of a certain rich family with the last name Yard, right? Heâs wooing you? If I canât count on my daughter, I might as well depend on my son-in-law.â
