Chapter 385

Spoiled by the President

There might have been a mishap last night, but it was said that the money was first wired to Susan so there should not be an issue with the money.

As for President Lawson, well he deserved it!

As a matter of fact, she had no idea what Joel did to President Lawson. Although she had not completely lost her consciousness last night, it was still a blur.

Lucy did not catch what everyone was talking about then.

Hence, she was unaware that Joel had expelled Yesheng from the capital.

Once Lucy got through to Susan, she smiled. “Sister Susan, about the... appearance fee last night, is it a convenient time for you to transfer it to me?”

On the other end of the line, Susan’s tone sounded rather helpless.

“I’m sorry, Lu. It’s possible that... we can’t get the money anymore.”

Lucy was dumbstruck.

“What?”

“Sigh! Did something happen last night? I received a call today, saying that you offended a very important guest. The person pulled out from the investment, so...”

Lucy was speechless.

“How about this? If you really need the money, I have some spare cash at hand. I can lend it to you and you can pay back anytime you’re able to.

There’s no hurry.”

Lucy immediately replied, “It’s okay. Thank you, Sister Susan.”

After hanging up, Lucy was overwhelmed with a heavy heart.

It had never occurred to her that she would not obtain the money for last night.

Feeling defeated, she put her hands around her head and sighed.

Just then, her phone rang.

It was from Old Fourth Cecil.

With a frown, Lucy impatiently picked up the call. “What do you want again?”

“Oh, good girl. When are you giving me the money you promised? It’s the 25th now and it wouldn’t be long until it’s the end of the month. The people from the other side are already urging.”

Lucy wished she could get to the other end of the line and strangle him to death.

She spoke through clenched teeth, “I said that I’ll give it to you after the drama is completed. Is the shooting for the drama over? What’s the rush?”

Old Fourth Cecil scoffed.

“Fine. The due date is the end of the month anyway. Don’t blame me for what’s to come if you can’t fork out the money or if you even dare to lie to me.”

Old Fourth Cecil then ended the call.

Today, Lucy had just arrived on set when she heard that a major investor was coming for a studio inspection tour.

Following a query in detail, she found out that it was Joel.

Although Anning International was the main sponsor of the drama, there were also other individual investors and companies.

Joel was one of them.

Everyone was bubbling over with enthusiasm at the news.

Who was Joel Foster? He was the Second Young Master of the Fosters, one of the Four Great Clans, and a well known eligible bachelor.

Despite being a frequent headliner of the tabloids and the talk of the town, no one had actually been within close distance of him.

Over the years, Joel, following in the footsteps of Gideon, had invested in many dramas but none of the times had he gone to the set for inspection.

Thus, the people were so excited upon receiving the news.

A few production runner ladies were mostly attracted by Joel’s good looks in the magazines and wanted to catch a glimpse of their idol.

However, those who had met Joel in social settings had another thing in mind.

After all, everyone knew that Second Young Master Foster was most amorous and a great lover.

Normally, they would not have a chance to draw near but now that they had an opportunity for a close encounter, they best be giving their all to catch his attention.

As long as they scaled the heights through the likes of Joel, forget marrying into money and power, becoming a confidante alone would make them the object of envy.

Hence, this subject was a stir among the actresses.

Each one of them was dressed to the nines, even the aloof Leila Frost took an additional half an hour to put on makeup.

Out of everyone on site, only Lucy was contemptuous towards Joel’s arrival.

She secretly thought to herself, “Inspection? Sure, it’s an inspection on a positive note, but isn’t it supervision in other words?’

Yet, here they were getting all excited. Did these people think that they would rise to fame or something?

Lucy shook her head helplessly and ignored these people. After she was done with her makeup, she headed straight to the set.

There were three scenes to be covered today — a fighting scene, a literature scene, and an emotional scene.

The emotional scene was shot first and it went on smoothly.

The second was the literature scene.

Though when she just began filming the literature scene, Joel arrived.

This literature scene depicted her acknowledging a disloyal official as an adoptive father for the sake of finding out the truth and seeking vengeance.

Unaware of Joel’s arrival, Lucy immersed herself in the scene while, on the other hand, the actor who played the disloyal official took notice of the boss’s presence and could not get into character. The scene finally passed after several takes.

While Lucy was engaged in the role, Suzy happened to come by.

She wore a scarlet red costume today and stood within reach of Joel, silently watching him.

With her scene up next, Suzy waited for her turn here.

However, it had never crossed her mind that Joel would be here. It was Suzy’s first time seeing him up close and never had she ever imagined that he was this handsome.

That handsome facial features, the elegant bearing, and noble presence were intoxicating like a good wine.

God! How could there be such a perfect man in the world!

Good looks, a presence that commanded the room, and most importantly, loaded with money!

Rumors may have had it that he was a playboy, but it was a shared trait of those rich men!

The way she saw it, Joel was fooling around because he was without a girlfriend. He would not wander elsewhere if there was a woman who was able to steal his heart.

Suzy then looked at Joel with blaring eyes.

With Joel around, he naturally became the chief of the production.

Even the director whispered and discussed with him in humble reverence.

Halfway through the shoot, the assistant director behind the monitor suddenly called for a cut.

He then rushed over and ran his mouth at the actor who played a footboy behind Lucy.

The footboy was supposed to place a stool for Lucy to get up the sedan chair but instead was given a cushion.

It was obvious that Joel’s presence made not only the actresses but the actors nervous.

Suzy scoffed at the side. “The actor is not to blame. It’s mainly because the main lead isn’t up to pace so, of course, he’s going to be nervous and make mistakes.”

Joel and the director lifted their heads and glanced at her in surprise.

Realizing that she was in the limelight, Suzy’s eyes alighted with glee and she continued, “Of course, if the main lead is an experienced veteran, she should know to command her presence to guide her companion to get into character and synchronize in pace. This way, they won’t be distracted by anything that was happening outside the set.”
