Chapter 435
Spoiled by the President
After the medical checkup, the result showed that there were no major issues. The bump on her head and the bruises on her hand recovered after applying ointments for two days. As for the child in her womb, everything was fine.
Just as a safety measure, Emmy prescribed some medicine to stabilize her condition. He had her stay in the hospital for this duration, avoiding going to any other places to prevent any unforeseen accidents.
After everything had concluded, Matthew came in and invited Emmy for coffee.
Emmy figured that he should probably get out of the coupleâs shoes since they probably had something to say to each other. He gladly headed out.
Gideon took Nell to the bed and covered her with blankets, âUse the next few days to take care of the baby, donât go anywhere else.â
Nell nodded. She pulled at his hand and had him sit down as well.
âYou should rest too. Also, get Emmy to treat your wound.â
Gideon nodded.
âYou go ahead and rest first, Iâll have him take a look at it later.â
Nell only settled down when she heard his promise.
Gideon bent over and kissed her on the forehead, âGo to sleep!â
After that, he tucked in the corner of the blanket and watched her fall asleep, only then did he leave.
The next day.
By the time Nell woke up the sky outside was already bright. She squinted slightly and then stretched before getting up.
Gideon had long woken up. She got down from the bed and walked to the window. Outside, the sun shone brightly. There were workers on the lawn downstairs directing the pruning of the lawn, the atmosphere was pleasant.
After Nell brushed her teeth, she went to the living room.
Gideon was seated on the sofa in the living room with a laptop in front of him, he seemed to be looking at some data. She walked over and patted his shoulder from behind.
Gideon closed his laptop almost instinctively and turned around to look at her, âYouâre up!â
âHm.â Nell did not notice his gesture, she opened his clothes to inspect the bandaged wound.
âHowâs the wound? Wonât you irritate it by sitting like this?
Gideon smiled gently.
He took her by the hand and had her sit on his lap and said to her, âYou think your husband is some sort of weakling now? Even him sitting worries you so much.â
Nell blushed, she changed the topic, figuring he probably would not make a joke at his own expense.
She rubbed her belly, âIâm hungry, I want to eat breakfast.â
Gideon nodded and took her to the dining room.
The ward Gideon selected was like a presidential suite, it was equipped with amenities such as a living room and dining room.
The breakfast was prepared by the nursing staff at the break of dawn. Nancy arrived earlier this morning as well, after having breakfast she came in to greet Nell.
With Nancy here, Gideon was visibly at ease.
It just so happened that the doctor came in to take Gideon for a checkup. Nell had him leave without worry and took the chance to chat with Nancy.
While two of them were chatting on the sofa, Matthew suddenly barged in in a hurry to inform them that Old Madam Griffin had arrived in person with Scarlet Griffin to present an apology.
Nell was surprised, she found it somewhat bizarre.
Since they came all the way here, she had no choice but to meet them.
And so, she agreed.
Before long, the old madam brought in many members of the Griffin family. Apart from Scarlet, there were Justin, Bailey, Yvette, and the others.
Nell was shocked when she saw how many of them were present.
Gideon had not returned yet, so she had to handle it by herself for now.
âOld madam, Uncle Griffin, youâve come. Please, sit down.â
The moment the old madam stepped in, she grasped her hand with a face full of concern. After inspecting her briefly and noticing that there were no visible scars, she started, âNelly! Are you alright? I was so worried when I heard about what happened, how are you holding up? Are you hurt anywhere?â
Nell was slightly stumped by the old madamâs genuine concern, she awkwardly shook her head, âIâm alright, Iâm not hurt.â
âReally? Thatâs good. Not hurt, thatâs good.â
After she finished, she switched to a furious tone, âThat disgusting William Cabot! Instead of dying by himself somewhere out there, he just had to drag someone down with him! Theyâre lucky nobody got hurt, if something were to happen, Iâll personally see to it that the Cabot family gets what they deserve!â
Scarlet, who stood at the side, turned pale at the old madamâs bout of ranting.
âScarlet, what are you waiting for? Won't you apologize already?â
Nell stared at Scarlet who was standing beside her.
From her perspective, this entire event had very little to do with Scarlet Griffin.
At the end of the day, she was the eldest daughter of the Griffin family, she was also Shawâs mother. Even if she was married to William Cabot, it did not change the fact that she was born of the Griffin family.
She was dragged into this mess due to William misappropriating billions of the companyâs funds. Worst comes to worst, her name will be scratched out of the corporation.
She also had a daughter, she had something to live for, there was no way she would do something like this.
She pursed her lips and said in a low tone, âOld Madam Griffin, I believe this incident has nothing to do with Aunt Scarlet. She does not need to apologize to me!â
The old madam was left speechless but ultimately did not pursue the matter any further. She was also aware that this had nothing to do with Scarlet, she only dragged her out here as a gesture of goodwill.
Expressing goodwill to Nell was the equivalent of expressing goodwill to Gideon. By leaving a good impression on Gideon, they could maintain the peaceful relations between the two families.
âNelly, you have suffered terribly as a victim of this incident. Donât worry, the police are already looking into it. As for the people who dared hurt you, we wonât let a single one of them walk away scot-free!â
Nell nodded in response.
Beside her, Scarlet had been glaring at her with ever-increasing intensity. She finally broke out the question, âNell, all of you claim that William was killed by his accomplice. Let me ask you this, what did his accomplice look like, where were they when it happened and why did they kill him? Tell me!â
Nell frowned.
âI did not see his accomplice. They said a sniper took him out, so I could not possibly know what he looked like. Why, you ask? Chances are itâs because their operation failed so they killed him to not be exposed!â
âYouâre lying!â
Scarletâs voice became agitated. Beside her, Yvette kept trying to hold her back but she paid no mind to her, she pointed at Nellâs nose with her finger like a dagger, âYou guys killed him! The forensic doctorâs autopsy results came out. It says his fingers were broken while he was alive, he even had two of his ribs kicked and broken!
âYou lot are disgustingly cruel! Yes, he kidnapped you, the fault lies with him, but youâre unharmed, arenât you?
âGiving him a beating is enough, why did you kill him? Donât you know that he was the only son of the Cabot family, what are they going to do now that youâve killed him?â
Scarletâs terrible voice rang across the entire hall. Nell locked her brow in response and answered solemnly, âI said, we did not kill him! The one who killed him was his accomplice!â
Besides, he did all of this to himself.
She could not care less about the Cabot family, what does the future of the Cabot family have to do with her?
As a token of respect, she did not voice her thoughts in front of the old madam.
Scarlet certainly did not feel the same way.
