Chapter 438
Spoiled by the President
At the time, the two of them were still very young. An age of wonder and innocence.
Nell had just been rescued by Gregory and did not know anyone in the group. Being cast into a foreign world which she had never expected herself to be in, she quickly felt intimidated, perhaps even a little frightened.
There was no light in her eyes then. She was like a frail little hedgehog who hid in her corner all by herself.
Gregory saw that things were not going well with her. One day, he had every member of the group gathered together.
Everyone was bunched together and looked at her like she was an exotic animal. Gregory suggested if anyone was willing to become friends with her, they all felt a little embarrassed at the notion.
Evelyn took the initiative and stood up before anyone else did.
Back then, her bright smile was full of warmth.
She approached her like a miniature sun, immediately removing the gloom surrounding Nell.
Evelyn extended her hand with a smile on her face. âHi there, my name is Evelyn, Iâd like you to become my friend.â
That scene was deeply engraved in Nellâs mind.
It was a little silly, like children in the kindergarten becoming friends under the guidance of kindergarten teachers.
She remembered it to be such a heartwarming gesture, she would never forget it for the rest of her life.
Evelynâs expression broke with a hint of sentimentality. She looked at Nell as if she could see her past self within Nellâs face.
Nell spoke softly, âEvelyn, back then, you were the first one who approached me. I thought that we were going to be best friends for the rest of our lives, but this time you have truly wounded me, do you know how I felt when I saw Gideon lying in a pool of blood?
Iâm sure you have experienced the hopeless, lost sensation of losing your most beloved before, and yet you would mercilessly submit me to the same fate, how does that weigh on your conscience?â
Her voice was soft, it was almost completely weightless.
Yet, Evelyn felt as if a huge boulder had been cast on her chest, she could hardly catch her breath.
Nell looked at her reddened eyes, after some time, she suddenly turned around and headed out.
Evelyn trembled violently.
âNell!â
She shouted after her, her voice had become slightly hoarse. Nell stopped without looking back.
After that, she heard Evelyn speak in an almost inaudible voice.
âIt was the Bauhinia Clan. They sent me to assassinate Gideon.â
Nell shuddered.
She turned back in bewilderment and cast her harsh, sharp gaze on Evelyn. She remained that way for several seconds before she spoke, âAre you sure?â
Evelyn smiled sourly.
âHow could I not be sure? Iâve been with him for several years. You probably donât know about this, three years ago, back when the Dragon Regiment disbanded for the first time, I was frozen out by them. That was how I secretly switched over to the Clan.
âOver there, he was my direct superior. All of the tasks Iâve performed were direct orders from him, including this assassination attempt on Gideon. I did express my hesitation initially, but he promised me that he was going to let me go after I complete the mission.
âNell, Iâm tired. Iâm tired of all the fighting and killing over the years. I donât want to be in this race nor do I wish to wander anymore.
âI just want to live a normal life. I would do anything if it meant that I could live a normal life, even if it meant having to kill for it.â
Nellâs expression became tense. She silently listened to her rant.
Evelyn looked up at her. âIt was Gideon who got on their bad side. Even if I didnât kill him, they were going to send someone else to do It anyway. At the end of the day, thereâs no difference, isnât it?â
âNo, there is a difference.â
She answered bluntly, âTheyâre not my friends, you are.â
Evelyn shook terribly and suddenly broke out in laughter.
The more she laughed, the funnier she found it to be. Her hysterical laughter gradually grew louder until at one point her body was trembling all over from laugher, she had tears streaming out of her eyes.
Nell looked at her with her expressive eyebrows pressed together.
Another problem suddenly occurred to her.
There was a chance that the motive of her current mission with Gideon was not a secret any longer.
She could not piece together one thing. If they had wanted to throw a wrench into their investigation into Old K, they could have easily resorted to other gentler methods instead of sending an assassin.
After all, with Gideonâs status, if something were to happen to him, then things could get very problematic for the Bauhinia Clan as well.
However, they did it anyway. Was there some other factor involved that she was not aware of?
Her eyes slightly darkened when she thought of this, she asked, âEvelyn, whatâs the name of your superior?â
Evelyn stopped tearing and shook her head.
âI donât know.â
Nell raised an eyebrow.
Evelyn continued, âI really donât know, someone like me could not possibly have the right to know their name. Most of the time we only address them using codenames. All I can tell you is that his codename is Y, you will have to find out and investigate the rest by yourself.â
Nell looked into her eyes to make sure that she was not lying. She nodded.
âAlright, Iâll look into it.â
She suddenly paused for a moment before continuing, âAs long as everything you told me was true, I will write off everything between us like it never happened. As for what happens in the future, suit yourself.â
Nell turned around after she finished. The sunlight that came in from the door penetrated her body, enveloping her in a golden halo.
Evelyn remained slumped on the ground, watching her leave. In that instant, she felt an unexplainable pain wrenching away at her heart.
She felt as if somewhere in her heart, something invaluable had left her.
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 437 Her Rescuer Wrong Ride, Right Lover ï¤Chapter 1980 Evelyn suddenly called out, âNell!â
Nell halted and listened to her pointed remark.
âBe careful of Gideon, heâs not the kind of person you think he is.â
Nell turned around and shot a glance at her.
The golden ray passed through the tips of her hair, she looked like an angelic being that came down to Earth.
She raised her eyebrows slightly and wanted to enquire further, but Evelyn had turned her head away, not intending to continue the conversation.
Nell pursed her lips tightly. In the end, she left without saying anything.
She left the villa and got in the car.
Nancy stuck by her side the whole time, she asked when she saw the look on Nellâs face, âNelly, are you okay?â
Nell shook her head.
She looked outside the window, her gaze appeared slightly shaken.
Evelynâs departing sentence lingered in her ears like a demonic voice, she was unable to fend it off no matter what.
She did not understand why Evelyn would say something like that. She did not pay much mind to it since she had been with Gideon for so long. She of all people would know what kind of person he was, why would she be simply misguided by an outsider who did not know any better?
Besides, it was coming from someone who had just tried to assassinate Gideon.
That was how things were at times. Logic driven by reasoning and logic driven by emotions were separate matters.
