Chapter 450
Spoiled by the President
Janet rubbed her eyes and checked the time. It was already 4:30 pm.
She got up, walked out of the room, and saw Liam picking up the invitation card from the table, looking at it curiously.
âYour friend came by at noon. She was the one who gave you this.â
Janet could not be bothered to say anything else and turned to go back into the room.
Liam stared at her and put the card down, asking, âYou didnât head out today?â
Janet replied crossly, âDidnât you tell me not to go running around?â
In truth, she simply felt a little tired. Plus, she was not that interested in the scenery here, so she was too lazy to go out.
However, Liam broke out into a laugh. His lips curled up in an impish manner.
It seemed like he was pleased with her obedience.
He took off his coat, cast it aside, and sat down on the sofa. Then he beckoned to her. âCome here.â
Janet squinted at him.
After a while, she dragged herself over.
She stopped in front of him. Liam suddenly pulled her hand forward. In the next second, a cool item was dangling around her wrist.
Janet was startled by the cool sensation, and her sleepiness vanished instantly.
She lifted her hand, only to find that it was an exquisitely crafted bracelet, inlaid with three star-shaped gemstones the color of sapphire. Although it did not appear too extravagant, it was delicate and beautiful. Judging from the workmanship alone, she knew it must have cost a considerable amount.
She was quite surprised, and asked, âWhatâs this?â
Liam said breezily, âSomeone gave it to me, saying that itâs called âStar of the Milky Wayâ or something like that. I thought it suited you so I brought it back for you.â
âOh.â
Janet paused for a moment. âIs there anything else? Otherwise, Iâll head back to the room.â
Liam waved his hand.
Janet turned around and headed to the bedroom.
She went in and closed the door.
In this space that belonged to no one else but her, her initially calm expression shifted subtly. She could not seem to stop beaming as she raised her hand and carefully observed the bracelet on her fair wrist.
The blue gemstones were embedded into the platinum bracelet. When she looked closely, there was a faint shimmer within the gemstones. How pretty!
An indescribable, fuzzy feeling started to bloom in her heart.
At this point, Liamâs voice came over from the other side of the door.
âDonât go to sleep. Get ready and come out with me for a meal.â
Janet put her hand down. She suddenly thought of something and was about to speak, when he added, âItâll just be the both of us.â
The words she was about to say were instantly swallowed back down.
After a long pause, she said, âOkay.â
They went down together to eat in an open-air western restaurant in the mountain resort.
Halfway through the meal, Janet suddenly felt someoneâs gaze burning into her back, and she could not help turning to look.
Maxine Lee was sitting not too far away from them, surrounded by a group of young men and women. Based on how they dressed, one could tell that they were all involved in the arts. Snatches of their conversation were borne by the windâall their topics were about art as well.
Janet shot her a polite smile.
However, in a rare breach of etiquette, Maxine did not respond. Her gaze was fixed upon the bracelet on Janetâs wrist.
Janet turned back despondently and glanced at Liam.
He was still gracefully eating his steak as if he did not notice Maxine who was close by.
Not long after that, Maxine walked over.
âLiam, what a coincidence. You both came here to eat as well?â
Only then did Liam seem to notice her. He picked up the napkin and dabbed at the corners of his mouth. âThatâs right. You have a gathering with your friends?â
Maxine nodded with a delicate smile. Her body, already so frail in the first place, was accentuated by the smile, and she seemed even more stirringly woeful.
âAre you coming tonight?â she asked, her voice full of anticipation.
Maybe Janet imagined it, but she actually sensed that, in that instant, Liam seemed to frown almost imperceptibly.
Following that, he nodded. âWhat time?â
Maxineâs expression of delight could hardly be concealed. âIt starts at nine.â
âAlright! Iâll be there.â
âIâll be waiting for you then.â
With that, she shot Liam a deep, meaningful look. Then her gaze flitted over Janet without pausing, and she immediately headed back to her seat.
Janet had been totally ignored from the beginning to the end.
Even she herself did not understand what her crime was!
When both of them were leaving after the meal, Maxineâs table was still eating boisterously. The soft, frail woman was surrounded by this eccentric group of men and women, speaking softly and smiling mildly. It should have been a strange picture, yet it looked incomparably harmonious.
Liam tugged at her hand. âWhat are you staring at? Come on!â
Only then did Janet break out of her reverie as she was dragged out by him.
The gaze burning into her back was as scorching as ever, like the sharp prick of a needle. It unsettled her.
The two of them did not return to their hotel but instead went boating on a natural lake in the resort.
The water was clear, and they could just about make out various small fishes swimming below. At one glance, anyone could tell that the environment was well taken care of. They took the wooden boat and rowed to the middle of the lake before stopping. Looking around, they could see the soft shapes of distant mountains. All this, along with the cool evening wind in their faces, was very pleasant.
Janet bent over the bow of the boat. She reached out and scooped up a handful of lake water. Miraculously, she managed to capture a small, crimson goldfish. She was immediately overjoyed.
âHey! Look, I caught a small fish.â
Liam set down the oars and squatted down beside her, a faint smile curving his lips.
âDo you want to keep it somewhere?â
âYes! Of course!â
Once oneâs inner child was awakened, one would be easily excited.
Hearing this, Liam said nothing else. He promptly went to the hold and got a bottle of mineral water. After unscrewing the cap to pour the water out, he refilled half the bottle with lake water and let her slip the fish in.
âQuick! Letâs see if we can catch a few more.â
Janet, who had a taste of success, was evidently stirred up. She leaned over the bow and kept scooping up lake water.
Liam did not stop her. He did not speak much today and simply sat by her side, holding the bottle and watching quietly.
Nonetheless, Janet still did not catch another fish after a long while.
In truth, this species of fish was lively and agile. Plus, the lake was so huge. It would be difficult to catch a fish in oneâs hand. It had only been luck that she could catch one just now. Naturally, Janet understood this, so even though she ended up empty-handed, she was not really frustrated.
She was tired out from all the fun, so she followed Liamâs lead and sat down at the bow, leisurely stretching out her limbs.
âItâs so comfortable here. Once I came out here, I could feel myself loosening up.â
Liam nodded. âYouâve been working hard during this period, so take these few days to really relax.â

ï¤Chapter 487 The End Pt. 5 Janet was a little stunned. Only then did she realize it was true. She had not relaxed like this in a long while.
When she recalled Maxine, who had acted strangely just now, she could not help frowning.
âWhat kind of relationship does that woman have with you? Why do I keep getting the feeling that she likes you?â
There was no notable expression on Liamâs face. He simply glanced at her placidly.
âSo?â
Janet glowered at him.
âAre you jealous?â
Her face changed. After a long silence, she snorted coldly.
âOnly an idiot would be jealous.â
Still, there was no denying that she was abruptly in a worse mood.
Liam explained, âHer father had once shown me kindness. Itâs nothing more than the fact that I didnât want to put her down too much on account of her father. Everything else is out of the question. Moreover, weâve not met for many years. She has her own fiancé too. I agreed to go over today because I once promised her father I would help her when she needs it. But it doesnât mean that there are other possibilities between us.â
