Chapter 453
Spoiled by the President
Next to Maxine was a very young-looking man who wore a dark red suit and jeweled earrings. When he looked at the others, there was only a hint of a smile in his petal-shaped eyes. His lips curved up in an impish grin, and he looked like one of those affluent, unconventional types.
As if he sensed Janetâs gaze, he cocked his head and looked in her direction.
Along with him, Joel looked over as well.
When Joel saw Janet, the joy of seeing an old acquaintance flashed across his face.
Janet raised her glass to him from a distance, indicating that he should continue fulfilling his social duties. There was no need for him to come over to her.
At that point, Luna appeared with Chairman Harrison Graham on her arm. Instantly, this drew a lot of attention.
Luna was wearing a purple dress. She looked poised, noble, and relaxed. With her father leading, she mingled around the bigwigs in a manner that was neither overbearing nor timid.
It was not hard to see that Harrison had deliberately nurtured this daughter. There were three children in the Graham family. The first two were legitimate, and only the third was born out of wedlock.
However, the illegitimate child, Gregory, had returned to open arms. This caused everyone to fervently discuss the future direction of the Graham family.
Janet did not manage to meet that legendary Third Young Master at todayâs occasion, but she did not mind.
Harrison accompanied Luna and moved around the room. When he approached Joel, he broke into a mild smile and exchanged pleasantries for a while.
Soon after that, his gaze turned and he seemed a little surprised.
After that, with a smile, he came over to Liam.
Naturally, Harrison knew Liam. They were of the same generation, but due to the disparity between their ages, they had not spent much time together.
Besides, Liam was reclusive and aloof by nature and was not one for socializing, so he rarely showed up during occasions like this, but he had suddenly appeared. Those who knew him would be startled. Knowing his temperament, they did not attempt to ingratiate themselves with him. As for those who did not know him, they could tell that he was not an ordinary man. Nonetheless, they were intimated by his forbidding, dignified aura, and dared not go up to him.
Harrison guffawed. âOh my! Young Master Liam has honored us with his presence. What a rare occurrence!â
Liam smiled politely in a rare display of modesty. âChairman Graham, thereâs no need to be so formal. The Grahams and the Griffins have always looked after each other over the years. Weâve always been interdependent. Ms. Graham invited me, so of course, I had to come.â
Luna smiled and nodded at Janet before replying, âYoung Master Liam is truly too gracious. How flattered I am! A toast to you.â
With that, she held up her wine glass.
Liam did not say much, simply clinked glasses with her and downed it all in one gulp.
âAnd this is?â
Harrison was looking at Janet as he inquired with a warm smile.
Liam explained, softly and calmly, âMy wife, Janet.â
He lowered his head and said tenderly to Janet, âJan, these are the Grahams.â
Janet nodded courteously and smiled as well. âItâs an honor to meet Chairman Graham at last. A toast to you.â
Her acquiescent manner clearly pleased Harrison a great deal. Therefore, although he was a little taken aback that Liam had gotten married without any fanfare, he still burst into a wide smile. âGood, good!â
After echoing these words, he held up his glass and drank it all.
At that moment, Joseph Garrett came over to say hello as well.
Naturally, Joseph knew Janet and Liam. The three of them exchanged pleasantries for a moment. Janet recalled that she recently heard Old Master Garrett was not in the best of health and inquired after him with concern.
Joseph sighed and shook his head.
âOld Masterâs health is gradually deteriorating. Weâve tried everything but nothingâs working.â
When Janet heard this, she could not help but frown with worry.
Liam said solemnly, âOld Master Garrett has lived through his share of trials and hardships, so heâll receive future blessings. The heavens will provide for the worthy. Second Uncle Garrett, donât worry too much.â
Joseph nodded.
He suddenly thought of something and asked, âOh, right, have you both been in touch with Nelly recently?â
Janet and Liam exchanged a glance and said nothing.
Joseph frowned. âI wanted to contact her lately, but canât seem to reach her. Old Master is very concerned about her. We asked the Leiths and they said sheâs gone abroad with Gideon. Do you know her current situation?â
Liam thought about it and decided that if they continued keeping this from the Garretts, it would only worry them further.
Therefore, he said, âSheâs in Country F. Gideon was injured recently, but heâs fine now.â
When Joseph heard that Gideon was hurt, his expression changed at once.
âHow did he get injured? Werenât they on vacation abroad? Did something happen to them?â
Liam said in a low voice, âNothing major happened. If you wish to know more, why donât you ask them.â
With that, he told Joseph how to get in touch with Nell and Gideon who were still abroad.
Joseph was slightly more reassured.
After the party, he gave Nell a call.
At the moment, Nell had just sent away Mr. Jeeves of the Griffin family.
Since Gideon was hurt, Old Madam Griffin had fretted over the whole thing, ultimately deciding she still felt anxious with both of them living in the hospital.
Now that Gideon could move around with his injury, she suggested that they lived with the Griffin family. Not only was it convenient, but it was also safer.
The Griffins had their own family doctor, so tending to the injury would not be a problem.
However, Nell turned down this offer.
She did not wish to rely on the Griffin family. It was partly because of Scarlet, and partly due to her own unique identity.
Since they had come here to investigate Old Kâs death, it was inevitable that Nell would be dealing with the Dragon Regiment and those from the Bauhinia Clan. She did not want the Griffins to find out about this.
Seeing that she refused, Mr. Jeeves could not insist further and could only leave ruefully.
The moment he left, Josephâs call came in.
âNelly, I heard that Gideon was hurt? Are you both alright?â
Nell was startled for a moment. Thinking quickly, she figured that it had to be Liam who told Joseph.
She smiled slightly. âWeâre fine. Donât worry, Uncle.â
Joseph sounded a little huffy. âHow am I supposed to not worry? Did you guys have nothing better to do than to run off to Country F? And he even got injured! What about you? Are you okay?â
Nell reassured him in a comforting tone, âIâm fine. It was just a small accident. You donât have to worry so much.â
There was silence on the other end of the call.
âTell me the truth. Did you go to investigate the Violette Clan?â
Nell pursed her lips slightly.
After a moment, she laughed gently. âUncle, in the past, I was indeed highly interested in what happened to my biological father, but you should understand that my interest only went as far as asking you what happened back then.
âWhatâs gone is gone. Heâs been dead for so many years. Why should I track down his family? To put them through the wringer?â
Joseph paused for a moment.
Then he scoffed in irritation. âWho knows what a young girl like you has in mind.â
Nell beamed. âIâll just take that as a compliment.â
âYou...â

Nell made a soft âmmmâ in agreement. âUnderstood.â
