Chapter 49
Spoiled by the President
Janet froze.
She wanted to say, âIt wasnât me who made the bet!â
That said, Nell was her good sister, after all. Nell was considerate of her and wanted to set her up with Liam.
Besides, Janet had also stood out earlier when the bet was made, so she could not go back on her word.
She tucked her hair behind her ears and cleared her throat.
âUhm... I wasnât running away! I j-just came to get something. Yes, I came to get something.â
She even repeated herself to confirm what she said.
Liam sneered in disdain.
Since the door was already unlocked, he opened the door and sat in the passengerâs seat.
Janet was baffled.
Seeing as she was still standing there in a daze, Liam stared coldly at her and asked impatiently, âWhy are you still standing there? Arenât we going to eat?â
Janet. â...â
âOh,â she responded as soon as she regained her senses. Nonetheless, just as Janet wanted to enter the car, she remembered that the car belonged to Nell; she did not drive here.
If she drove the car away, how would Nell go home?
Therefore, Janet could only ask softly as she looked at the man, who was going to rest with his eyes closed in the passengerâs seat, âUhm... This isnât my car, so can we take your car instead?â
Liam. â...â
âF*ck!â
Nell received a call from Janet not long after.
Janet told her that she had to leave first and that she left the keys with the security guard at the parking lot, then she hung up.
Nell initially wanted to ask if Janet wanted to wait for Liam so that he could fulfill his promise, but Janet hung up so quickly that she could not say it in time.
However, she later heard that Liam left right after the competition ended, and she realized the timing matched, so she immediately figured out what happened.
Hence, Nell did not disturb Janet. She went to get her car after she set a specific appointment time with Gareth, then she left.
It was already 10:00 pm by the time she got home.
Surprisingly, Gideon was not home.
Considering how Gideon drove to her company to pick her up when she forgot to inform him about having to work overtime, Nell sent him a text in advance.
Who knew, she was not the only one who arrived home late; Gideon was not home yet.
Nell looked for Aunt Joyce, who explained to her with a smile, âSir called home during dinner time to say that he has an important transoceanic meeting to attend at his company, so he wonât be back so early.â
The young lady then nodded.
Without saying anything else, she made her way upstairs.
After the tiring day, Nell wanted to take a shower and rest.
She entered the bathroom with her pajamas.
On the other side, Janet and Liam arrived at a restaurant.
It was an open-air candlelight restaurant.
The restaurant was situated on the second floor, where customers were greeted with a bright moon and a cool breeze, as well as a vast river in the distance. The area was decorated with romantic candlelights, and an elegant cellist was seen playing a melodious and graceful piece on a small stage.
If Janet ignored the cold-looking man in front of her, the restaurant was indeed the most suitable place for a romantic date.
When the waiter served them their food, Janet thanked him softly.
At the restaurant, she no longer fully disguised herself. She removed the mask but was still wearing the cap.
The capâs wide brim covered Janetâs eyes, leaving the bottom half of her straight nose and her tender lips exposed. When she lifted her defined chin a little, without the need to say a word, she looked noble and sophisticated, as if she was above all beings.
Liamâs eyes were dark and hollow, and a hint of coldness could be seen deep inside them.
From the racetrack to the restaurant, Janet had slowly calmed down from being nervous.
Even so, she felt uneasy.
They were dining outdoors, but for some reason, the air around her felt oppressive. It was as though she was being suffocated.
On top of that, the atmosphere was silent and embarrassing.
In particular, it was worth noting that many couples dined at the open-air restaurant.
When compared to the affectionate couples around them, Janet and Liam seemed even more estranged from each other.
All of a sudden, a waiter approached them with horses. He bent over and smiled respectfully. âSir, would you like to buy a bouquet for your girlfriend?
11 roses symbolize always and forever.â
Liam cast a cold look at the waiter. âNo!â
The waiter felt that they were a strange couple. They were dining together on the same table, but they had not talked to each other, and the man seemed extremely fierce.
In order to ease the tension in the air, the waiter grinned. âItâs okay, you can make a song request too. Sir, how about you request a song for your girlfriend! Given the environment that youâre in, itâs romantic to listen to a song requested by your lover!â
Liam looked up and glared at the waiter.
He looked like a wolf in the wilderness or a faint cold light in the night sky.
The waiter shivered a little and felt a chill down his spine.
Following that, Liam uttered slowly, âSheâs not my girlfriend; how many times do I have to tell you? No â need! Get lost â!â
At last, the waiter realized that the man was not only fierce, but he was not one to be messed with!
The waiterâs face changed, and he instantly left with the roses.
Janet was embarrassed about what happened.
She informed Liam softly, âIâm going to the toilet.â
Afterward, she stood up and hurried away.
Liam did not say a word when he watched her leave, but his eyes darkened.
In the toilet, Janet kept taking deep breaths.
It seemed like the only thing that could ease her heart, which had been suppressed for a long time.
Without warning, her phone rang.
When she reached for it to take a look, she noticed that Nell had called her.
Janet forced back her tears, which were about to roll down her cheeks.
âHey, Nelly.â
âJanet the beauty, howâs it going? Arenât you happy dating the man in your dreams?â
Janet forced a laugh.
âAm I happy?
âMaybe!
âBut sadly, he seems very unhappy!
âWell, he probably despises me. I promised to stay out of his sight forever; not only have I just broken that promise, but I also forced him to have a candlelight dinner with me. He must hate me to the core now!â
Janet felt that she was becoming teary again.
She held back her tears once more.

She looked up and took a few seconds before she managed to hold back those tears.
On the other end, Nell thought something had happened to Janet because she did not say a word.
âJan, is something wrong?â
Janet answered at once, âEverythingâs fine, Iâm in the toilet!â
âThatâs great. Howâs your progress?â
âNothing much. You know he can be quite cold, and he can go on for hours without saying a word, so what can I do?â
Nell scoffed disdainfully.
âYou can break the ice first! Eldest Young Lady Hancock, the most desired lady in Jincheng, arenât you the best in starting conversations? Think about the men whoâve desperately pursued you; believe in your charm! As long as you show a bit of your charm, even an old celestial being in Bodhi will abandon Buddhism and secularize!â
âPfft!â Janet could not help but burst out laughing.
