Chapter 468
Spoiled by the President
Helpless, Nell sat there and dwelled in her thoughts before bursting out laughing.
It was not as though she had never seen people so eager to please but to come in this strong... Was really...
She lifted her hand to rub her temples without further comment.
It was not long before Helen came out with some soup.
âSister-in-law, I made this especially for you. This soup is great for replenishing vitality and blood, and good for its restorative quality, perfect for pregnant women.â
Nell took a look at the bowl of soup with an interplay of red and white in front of her. The smell, look, and taste made the soup rather ravishing.
She smiled at Helen. âThank you, youâve worked hard.â
âNot at all. Iâm only doing my part.â
Though Helen acted chummily, Nell curled her lips and said nothing.
She turned and called a nearby maid over. âGo to the gym to see if the young master has finished with his exercise. Call him to lunch if heâs done.â
âYes.â
The maid quickly took off but just as she reached a door, she heard a cry.
âYoung Master.â
Everyone turned their heads to the source of the noise and saw Gideon appearing at the dining hall entrance in casual wear.
The gym in the villa had an en-suite bathroom. He changed into another white leisure outfit, different from the one he wore when he went out in the morning.
With his clean-cut hair seeping with steam, it was obvious he had just taken a shower.
Nell grinned. âYouâre back. Come and have a taste. Helen has been working on it half the day.â
Gideon swept a fleeting glance at the dishes on the table without saying a word.
He faintly nodded and approached her before pulling a chair to take a seat.
For some reason, Helen snuck back into the kitchen.
By the time she resurfaced, she had another bowl of soup in her hands. All smiles, Helen said, âCousin, I prepared this seafood soup especially for you. It has sea cucumber and caterpillar fungus in it and because Sister-in-law canât have it, I put it aside. Try it.â
Following a twitch on her eyelid, Nell lifted her eyes to gaze at her.
However, Helen seemed to turn a blind eye toward Nell. Her bright eyes were fixated on Gideon.
Nell faintly sneered.
With a frown, Gideon solemnly retorted, âI donât like the taste of seafood. Take it away!â
Without glancing at the bowl of soup, he had someone pour him a glass of water instead.
As the smile on Helenâs face stiffened, she quickly turned to throw Nell a look, seeking for help.
Pouting, she mentioned in a grievance, âSister-in-law, is there somewhere I didnât do good enough? Is Cousin angry with me? I remember he used to love eating seafood.â
Gideon indeed loved seafood. Helen sure did cater to his taste.
Nell smiled. She did not want to give Helen a hard time out of respect for Gideonâs dearly-departed mother and Old Madam Quinton.
âSince the soup is prepared, you should taste it!â
Gideon looked at her in shock.
âYou want me to drink this?â
âUh huh? Whatâs wrong?â
â... Iâll drink then.â
Nell, â...â
Helen, â...â
What was going on with the stench of mushiness in the air?
Helen had a hard time holding up the stiffened smile on her face but lucky for her, Gideon heeded to Nellâs word. Since the latter wanted him to drink it, he took a spoon and took a few sips.
Helen finally felt comforted. The soup was nourishing for men. She had simmered the soup for three hours!
Having noticed that Helen had been on her feet, Nell retorted, âDonât just stand there, come sit down and eat too.â
Helen obediently took a seat in the opposite.
The atmosphere may not be the greatest at the dining table but it was that not uncomfortable under Nellâs ingenious guidance.
At least it seemed rather harmonious on the surface.
Only, she indistinctly sensed that the dishes today were very wholesome.
Hmm, every dish was added with nutritious ingredients. Even dried scallop was cooked with the vegetables.
Nevertheless, she gave no thought about it and trusted that Helen had prepared the meal especially for her. After all, these foods did indeed have restorative qualities for pregnant women who were able to pop.
Nell had always persisted on exercising and would walk at least five kilometers per day. Even now that she was carrying a child, she still worked toward her target daily.
Even if she ate a nourishing meal, she needed not to worry that her fetus would grow too huge.
The lunch was soon coming to an end in peace and bliss.
Just then, Helen suddenly let out a scream.
âCousin, I thought you canât have chili? I prepared this dish for Sister-in-law. Donât eat it. Youâre allergic to chili!â
Gideon raised his chopstick and about to pick a spicy dish in front of Nell.
The dish was an instruction from Nell to the maids to serve for every meal. With a change in her appetite this month, it was necessary to have a cold spicy dish with her food. Taking a bite or two calmed her cravings.
This rule had gone on for over a month. Even when Nell was abroad, she must have it in the hospital.
Now that she was back, the family would not forget about it. Even though Helen had prepared lunch this afternoon, the maids served the spicy dish as usual.
This issue came unexpectedly.
With a frown, Helen moved the spicy dish to her corner of the table and placed the nearby steamed eel in front of him.
She then grinned at him with glee. âCousin, donât you like fish? This is for you.â
Dumbstruck, Nell watched as the spicy dish before her was taken away. For a moment, she curled her lips out of annoyance.
Gideon was allergic to chili? How could she not know?
He ate what she ate at home, and had eaten chili plenty of times. She had never seen him unable to swallow or have an allergic reaction.
Turning to glance at Gideon, Nell amusingly asked, âYouâre allergic to chili?â
With a frown, Gideon answered in a gruff voice, âIt was many years ago. I grew out of it and am no longer sensitive to it.â
âOh? I guess itâs not a problem then.â
Helen became awkward in hindsight.
She forced a smile. âItâs great that youâre okay. Iâm sorry, Sister-in-law, I didnât mean to cause a huge ruckus. I used to be familiar with Cousinâs body so I thought he was still allergic to chili. I hope you donât mind.â
Nellâs eyes turned chilly.
Nonetheless, she still said nothing. Only, the smile by her lips was a little taunting.
âNo, I donât. You acted that way because you care about him. Iâm happy that someone is concerned about him. Why would I mind?â
Although such were her words, her tone was rather cold, unlike the previous friendliness that she had portrayed.
Gideonâs keen senses had picked up on it. The furrow between his eyes slightly wrinkled.
Helen gave a numb smile. She was smart and knew better than to say anything else since Nell did not tear down all pretense of cordiality.
With Nell giving her a way out, Helen naturally took it.
