Chapter 469
Spoiled by the President
The air was rather solemn at the dining table. With a straight face, Nell kept her silence and buried her head in her meal.
After a while, she put down the cutleries and dully said, âIâm full. Please enjoy your meal.â
With that, she got up and was ready to leave.
Her arm was abruptly grabbed. Gideon put down his chopsticks and replied, âLetâs go together.â
Nell raised a brow.
Sitting in the opposite, Helen had been busy attending to their needs and had not had much of a bite to eat.
With the two hosts leaving their seats, she picked up her bowl, not knowing whether to continue eating or not.
Nell smiled. âMiss Wilburn, Iâm sorry. Youâve been busy and haven't had time to eat. You know Iâm pregnant and get tired easily so your cousin will accompany me for a rest upstairs. I hope you donât mind staying here alone.â
Helen forced a smile. âI donât mind.â
âThatâs great.â
Nell turned to walk away. With Gideonâs help, they returned to the bedroom upstairs.
Once they were in the room, Nell frankly told him, âI donât like her.â
Smiling, Gideon helped her onto the bed and replied, âMe neither.â
Nell lifted her head to glance at him and frowned.
âYour cousin is overly-concerned. If it werenât for the sake of the old madam and your mother, I really donât want to entertain her.â
Gideon fell into deep thought.
âWhy donât I get down there and shoo her off?â
Nell, â...â
After remaining silent for a few seconds, she irritably waved her arm.
âForget it! We still have to consider the feelings of others, if not her. Although Old Madam Quinton probably wonât say anything, people will talk about us and the old madam throwing our weight around if word were to travel back to her. It wonât be nice if they leave a few passing comments.â
Gideon gruffly chuckled before kneeling before her to take off her shoes.
Propping her against the headboard, he kissed her forehead and answered, âItâs just today. Weâll just have the maids tell her no one is at home if she comes the next time. She wonât come again after hitting a few walls.â
Nell nodded and closed her eyes.
âIâm a little tired so Iâm going to take a nap.â
âSure, you sleep. Iâll stay here and keep you company.â
âOkay.â
Nell soon fell fast asleep. Gideon held onto her hand and waited until she was in deep sleep before tucking her arm under the sheets. He then got up and departed.
Instead of heading downstairs, he went to the study.
After picking and choosing from the bookshelf, he finally settled on a western history book.
Gideon had just exited the study when he came face to face with a slender figure walking his way.
He frowned.
âCousin, is Sister-in-law asleep?â
Still with a blank look on his face, he glanced at Helen in front, cupping a bowl of soup or tea between her hands.
He was under the impression that she would leave after lunch yet here she was.
Gideon faintly asked, âSheâs asleep. Whatâs the matter?â
âNothing. I noticed you hadnât had much to eat in the afternoon so I brewed you snow pear and goji berry dessert. Itâs good for the lungs and vitality, and makes the perfect afternoon tea...â
Before she could finish, Gideon indifferently cut her off.
âNo need for that, Iâm not interested in dessert.â
With that, he brushed past her and was on his way out.
However, Helen suddenly took two quick paces and stopped him.
âCousin!â
Gideon frowned.
âAnything?â
âI-I...â
She hemmed and hawed amid the manâs overbearing presence. At a loss of words, her face turned blush red.
A brief moment later, she said, âCousin, I saw that you ate much nourishing food in the afternoon. Your body can get heaty in this chilly weather. Itâs best you drink this soup.â
As Gideon darted a fleeting glance at the bowl in her hands, a cold glint appeared in his eyes.
âWhy did you prepare that much nourishing food if the weather is getting chilly? Now youâre giving me a cooling drink? Donât you have too much free time in your hands?â
Anyone who knew Gideon well would know that he was a straight shooter, never really beating around the bush.
However, it had never crossed her mind that he would be this straightforward.
His words were so blunt and forthright, it put her in the spot.
Having been challenged in the face for the very first time, Helenâs cheeks were scorching hot.
âCousin, Iâm sorry, I didnât mean to. I only wanted to do better, I...â
She was caught in a fluster, exhibiting signs of inhibition and lowliness, like a little bunny in the wrong.
Helen might not be the greatest beauty of all time, but her looks were considered above average among the young ladies.
That feebly mild bearing in particular was the image most men had in mind.
Any man in such a scene would not bear to criticize her.
They would console her instead, just so she would not blame herself. No one would have the heart to see her in such a state.
Nonetheless, the man before her merely swept her a glance in aloofness. Without uttering another word, he walked past her to advance forth.
âDonât come over if nothingâs of the matter. Your sister-in-law is in great shape and she doesnât need your help.â
Helenâs body jolted.
Seeing that the man was about to take off, she made up her mind and gritted her teeth as she abruptly put down the bowl and without warning, sprinted over to hug the dip of his waist from the back.
âCousin!â
In less than a second, a powerful force flung her away.
However, she was not going to give up so easily. She was all over him, imploring with tears.
âCousin! I beg you, please help me! I can only look for you now. Iâll die if you donât help me. Cousin, please, I beg you.â
Unable to endure further, Gideon yelled in anger, âLet go!â
âNo! I wonât let go unless you promise me. Cousin, Sister-in-law is three-months pregnant, I can too.â
Gideon just could not believe his ears to hear these explicit and shameless words.
With an overbearing fury bursting out of his chest, he hurled her aside, accompanying an ashen look on his face.
Sullen, he turned to gaze at the woman who had collapsed on the floor and spoke through clenched teeth, âYou came over for this?â
Rather than answering, Helen bawled her eyes out. The V-neckline dress she had on slipped loose by the collar after the toss and turn.
Gideon felt the veins popping on his forehead while his eyes unveiled his disgust and repugnance.
He shouted in anger, âAunt Joyce!â
Aunt Joyce was busy in the yard and did not hear the disturbance over on that side. As no one responded to him, Gideon took large strides in preparation to look for her downstairs.

âDonât go! Cousin, I like you. Donât you know how much I like you? I used to think that I donât deserve you because of my low status and only found out that you donât care about that when youâre married.
âThat woman you have now is less than me in status. If she can marry you and become your woman, why canât I? Cousin, I beg you, please let me stay! Iâll be good and listen to your every word. Iâll definitely make you happier than Sister-in-law ever can.â
