Chapter 470
Spoiled by the President
Black in the face, Gideon was about to push her away when there came a womanâs cry in surprise from the bedroom.
âWhat are you doing?â
...
Five minutes later, in the living room on the ground floor.
Nell sat on the sofa and Gideon joined her with an ashen look on his face while on the opposite stood a very distraught Helen.
Aunt Joyce came running from the backyard. She did not know what was going on in the beginning but after the maids in the house had filled her in, her face turned grimace.
A maid served tea in humble reverence. Nell held the cup up and took a small sip before leisurely saying, âSpeak then! Whatâs going on?â
She was taking a nap and was barely in slumberland when she somehow heard noises on the outside.
Nell had been through a lot lately. Being pregnant, she became a light sleeper and simply could not fall back to sleep after the noise. Hence, Nell got up to take a look.
It had never occurred to her that she would be welcomed by the sight.
Harking back to the earlier scene, she moved her gaze back and forth at the duo, giving a look worth pondering. Nell chuckled. âI didnât think Iâd wake up halfway through a nap at home to catch a hanky-panky in the act. Either you think Iâm too much of a goody-two-shoes or Iâm just air?â
Twitching by the corner of his lips, Gideon stared at her in grievance.
âI didnât.â
Nell waved her arm to gesture that he keep his mouth shut.
âMiss Wilburn, as a guest to my home, I welcomed you with open arms. Even if some of your behavior was rather unsettling, I bore with it out of the respect for the old madam. Did you really think that Iâm a pushover that you can do as you please?â
Helen grew pale. After a while, she muttered, âIâm sorry, Sister-in-law, it wasnât my intention.â
âNot your intention to what?â
Nell darted her an indifferent glance, her eyes cold.
âNot your intention to prepare an entire spread of aphrodisiac food or not your intention to, right under my nose, seduce my man?â
Helen, â...â
Nellâs last two words pleased a certain somebody. He curled his lips. His earlier gloomy complexion foretelling an impending storm immediately eased up.
âWifey, donât be angry. We donât want you to get worked up. Our baby is still in your tummy.â
He reached out to fold over her shoulders and caressed her back.
To his surprise, Nell gave him the evil eye.
Gideon, â....â
What did he do wrong?
Nell was not in the mood to deal with him. She coldly blurted. âMiss Wilburn, I donât need your explanation. Itâs all the same old excuses anyway.
âWith the number of women trying to sweep our Gideon off his feet over the years, I canât possibly keep an eye on each one of them. Weâre relatives after all, I wonât publicize what happened today.
âIn any case, Iâm sparing your feelings. However, thereâs no way we can be relatives since this has gone out of hand. Donât ever come knocking on our door and go back to where you come from!â
Nell then called Aunt Joyce to see Helen off.
Helenâs pale face completely was drained of any remaining color.
âNo, I wonât go! Sister-in-law, I was wrong, please forgive me! I wonât do it again. It was a momentâs weakness, I didnât mean to do what I did.â
Nell swept her a cold glance.
âDidnât mean to? Ha! I can tell that it was premeditated!â
Nell finally got to the bottom of it. This cousin whom she had met less than a handful of times would be so nice to visit her?
Visit her? It was obviously to see Gideon!
Helen had even prepared a table of nourishing dishes. It seemed to be replenishing her body on the surface when in truth, the lunch was not for her but rather, for Gideon.
This woman was trying to wiggle her way in while she was pregnant.
Haha... To play such mind games, she sure had no shame.
Refusing to let out the swear words in her mind, Nell coldly uttered, âWe all have brains. Weâre clear of whatever game youâre playing even without you disclosing or me asking. Itâll do you no good if you insist I bring it out into the open. Are you sure I should keep talking?â
Helen finally understood at this moment that this woman who was married to her cousin, albeit younger than her, was not one to mess with.
Biting her lip, she softly spoke, âWeâre relatives after all. My head wasnât clear for a moment. Why do you have to be so aggressive?â
âHa!â Nell smirked out of anger.
âYou know youâre relatives and yet you threw yourself at him? Even if youâre not related by blood, have you no self-respect? Donât you get it?â
Nellâs blunt words left Helen embarrassed.
She bit her lip, wanting to say something but was interrupted by Nellâs impatient order to Aunt Joyce. âSee her off.â
Advancing forth, Aunt Joyce said in a gruff voice, âMiss Wilburn, please.â
Helen stood still.
With a frown, Aunt Joyce was contemplating whether to call two maids to forcefully carry her out when suddenly, Helen fell onto her knees in a thump.
Everyone was taken aback by her sudden reaction.
Caught by surprise, Nell jolted up. Gideon swiftly got on his feet to support her in case she tumbled by the spur of the moment. His complexion darkened.
Although Helen was in the wrong and harbored ill intentions, they were peers. Nell could not possibly accept this bow.
Turning red in the face, Nell asked reprovingly, âWhatâs the meaning of this?â

âSister-in-law, I beg you, please save me! I really have no way out! If I walk out of here like this today, itâll be my corpse in the mortuary tomorrow.
âSister-in-law, Iâll admit that I was out of line today but please, upon our relationship as relatives, help me out!
âI wouldnât come up with such an idea if thereâs even a tiny way out of this and come here to humiliate myself!â
Nell frowned.
Obtuse as she may be, even Nell had realized something fishy was going on.
She turned over and exchanged glances with Gideon, noticing the shock in each otherâs eyes.
Nell solemnly answered, âGet up. I canât listen to what you have to say with you kneeling there. If something is the matter, you should stand up and talk!â
At last, Helen stood up with the help of the maids.
Weary, Nell kneaded her furrow. âSpeak! Whatâs going on?â
Helen let it out tearfully. âI didnât want to bother you but Iâm left with no choice. Apart from seeking help from Cousin, I canât think of anything else.â
Feeling a throb by her brow bone, Nellâs cold eyes fixated on her.
