Chapter 491
Spoiled by the President
Lucy Katz lacked money.
Thinking about her sick mother and gambling addict stepfather, no matter how excited Susan Reed, her manager that was standing behind her was, her eyes still filled with sorrow.
Lucy was tight-lipped about her family matters that even her close friend-cum-manager, Susan, was not aware of it.
Seeing that Lucy was depressed, Susan stood behind her and held the woman who was leaning against the chair and staring at her reflection. Susan was puzzled and asked, âLucy, it was your dream to attend this party. You should be ecstatic, but why...â
Lucy reluctantly curled up her lips and smiled feebly.
âItâs nothing. Iâm just a little tired because I didnât sleep well.â
Susan looked at her worriedly and sighed.
âYou should feel tired by now.â
She knew how desperate Lucy was.
Ever since Lucy entered the entertainment industry, even when she was a small no-name actress, she had already started working endlessly.
Lucy would accept any project no matter how tough it was or how high the requirements were as long as it was quality and high-end work.
Susan had once asked her why she was so hardworking.
Lucy only said that if she wanted to succeed, she could not help but work hard. Moreover, low quality work would only waste her energy, so she would rather work harder than put a dent in her career.
All these years, Susan stood by Lucyâs side and saw her transform bit by bit, from a no-name small actress into a first-class superstar that she was today.
Whether it was then or now, Lucyâs âMiss Eagerâ ways still never changed.
Susan was curious about why Lucy was that eager to earn so much money albeit maintaining a frugal lifestyle.
Lucy smiled and did not comment. She just brushed it off and said that she did not like the extravagant lifestyle.
Susan found it questionable but did not probe further.
Who did not have a secret?
Now when Susan saw Lucyâs exhausted face, she hesitated and did not persuade Lucy to rest.
It had been so many years that if Lucy wanted to rest, she wouldâve rested long ago.
Susan gave it a thought.
What she did not know was that Lucy did feel like resting.
Who would not want to relax and laze around at home?
Her momâs hospital bills were still manageable. If it were not for her blood-sucking stepfather, Lucy would not want to work so hard.
Soon, Lucyâs makeup was done.
She picked a silver tube top dress and matched it with an aquamarine hairpin. Her neck was adorned with a delicate silver necklace and she wore a pair of crystal-looking high heels. She then elegantly got into her sports car.
The whole way there, Lucy was expressionless while she stared at the colorful nightlights before her. She had yet to rest today.
It was not that she did not want to rest. It was because she felt too tired that she was afraid once she fell asleep, she would have missed the party.
Lucy made it a point to attend this party.
She arrived at the venue moments later.
Under the camera flashes, Lucy put on a courteous smile and got out of the car gracefully.
She clutched her chest the whole way and nodded with acknowledgment towards the media. From time to time, she pulled back loose strands of her hair. Lucy was akin to a goddess with every move she made.
However, no reporters interviewed her.
The reporters who were taking pictures outside were just gathering materials. Those who were qualified to speak were those who could join the event.
Perhaps the media who attended the event were industry leaders, so they were not that attentive to her, as she was just a relatively small movie star who had just barely qualified to join the party.
Just when Lucy thought she had safely entered the venue, she suddenly saw a man standing upright before her.
Mace Smith smiled, walked towards her, and fluidly took her arm.
âLucy, youâre here! Why didnât you notify me? You made me wait here for too long.â
A touch of discomfort flashed across Lucyâs eyes but she smiled fondly and said, âI didnât know you arrived so early. I was planning to wait for you.â
Mace playfully stroked Lucyâs nose and responded, âLook at you! There is no such thing as a woman waiting for a man!â
Lucy covered her red lips and flirted. âYou donât have to be like this, but thanks anyway.â
She knew that Mace wanted to use his connections and introduce her to several industry leaders.
Mace understood what Lucy meant.
He cupped her face and his eyes were filled with tenderness.
âYou donât have to be so polite to me. You can tell me anything. If I can be of any help, Iâll surely lend you a hand.â
Lucy nodded her head and felt a hint of warmth at the bottom of her heart.
At this moment, a displeased male voice interrupted them. âWhat a heartwarming show!â
The two of them turned around and looked at the man.
Lucy could not conceal her look of surprise and embarrassment. Mace threateningly squinted his eyes.
Nonetheless, he did not show the hostility he felt at the bottom of his heart and smiled widely while walking towards the man.
âOh, itâs Second Young Master Foster. Lucy is my fiancée and itâs my duty to take care of her. I donât know what you meant by your words earlier.â
Joel Foster wore a custom-made burgundy suit and laughed arrogantly. One could not tell that not too long ago, he was just staring at those two with spiteful eyes.
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 490 The Building Will Fall âItâs nothing. I was just surprised to see Young Master Smithâs loving gestures. Even if you both were engaged, donât you think itâs a bit inappropriate to be so affectionate at this moment? After all, many people are watching.â
As he said this, he tilted his head, signaling towards the row of reporters behind them.
The media present looked at each other and saw the excitement in one anotherâs eyes.
A scandal! A big scandal in the showbiz!
Those present were experienced and naturally knew about the engagement between Mace Smith and Lucy Katz. Joel Foster had always been watching on the sidelines, but today...
Anyone in the media with a sense of professionalism and awareness frantically held up their cameras and prepared to take the first shot.
Lucy saw this and subconsciously distanced herself from Mace.
She was indeed engaged to Mace, but to be openly intimate on this occasion would affect her image.
Todayâs party was mainly about networking within the industry. It was not for them to show off their love.
Mace also clearly thought about this.
He quickly let go of Lucyâs arm and looked at Joel with a trace of intimidation.
âJoel was a playboy and logically speaking would not have had many interactions with Lucy. Could it be that Joel liked Lucy?â
âHow did he never notice Joelâs intentions? It looked like he had to be careful.â
Joel smiled upon seeing the widened gap between the two and felt more delighted.
He walked through the gap and looked at Maceâs stiff expression. Joel then smiled faintly and said, âAnyway, there is still a long journey ahead. I suggest Young Master Smith not get in over your head and get caught up in the show.â
